Nomadic tour highlights exploring the extreme eastern Bhutan, where semi-nomadic people called as Brokpas live at Merak and Sakteng. They live in the high Himalayas with unique tradition and culture, making popular destination for the tourists. They are identified with unique style of dress they wear and the type of headgear made out of yak-hair. They speak different dialect which it is being spoken only in their villages. Primarily the nomad people depend on Yaks for their daily livelihoods.
Beside exploration, we can have exclusive sightseeing starting from deep valley to the highest snow capped ranges, temples, and numerous flora and fauna when travelling from Paro till Trashi gang. (500km).The final destination to Merak and Sakteng need to be hiked for 6 days (round trip). The trek would pass through Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary which is home to the endangered snow leopard and Red Panda, Himalayan bear, Red fox and indeed legendary Yeti.
The best time for this trek is from March to May and September to November.
Day 1 : Arrive in Paro - Thimphu (ALT- 2320M)
Your very first day travelling to Bhutan by Druk Air is going to be fascinating with the first glance over Bhutan Himalayan Scenery. Upon arrival at the Paro International airport, you will be greeted by our representative and you will be transferred to Thimphu (2hrs drive), the capital city of Bhutan.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Memorial Chorten:
It is the Iconic figure in Thimphu Valley. It was built in memory of the third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck in 1974.
• Amazing Buddha statue:
The Statue 177ft tall, is reputed as the largest Shakyamuni Buddha Statue in the world. It is located on the ridge of the mountain overlooking the capital city. Evening will be a leisure time to move around.
• Takin animal:
It is a unique looking animal. According to Bhutanese folklore, this incredible animal was created by the famous Buddhist master, Lam Drukpa Kuenlay affectionately known as ‘The Divine Madman’. The takin was given life when he attached a goat’s skull to the skeleton of a cow. It is also the National Animal of Bhutan.
• Tashi Chodzong:
It is one of the popular and landmarks in Thimphu. It houses secretariat building, offices of His Majesty the King, Throne Room, central monastic body and offices of Ministers.
Evening will have a leisure time; you may stroll around Thimphu town and the Craft bazaar for unique souvenirs.
Overnight, stay at the hotel in Thimphu.
Day 2 : Thimphu to Punakha / ALT-1200M / 70km /2-3hrs
Morning after breakfast you will drive to Punakha and on the way will stop for tea at Dochu La Pass (3,100 meters). The passes are marked by either Chorten or cluster of prayer flags.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Dochu La Pass:
It is one of the most loved passes that have 360-degree View point, blessed with 108 stupas built with perfect back drop of stunning Himalayas in the distance.
• Punakha Dzong:
It is one of the magnificent Dzongs (fortress) of Bhutan surrounded by Pho Chu the male and Mo Chu, the female rivers. This Dzong also replicates like the Majestic Ship being floated on these rivers.
• Suspension Bridge:
It is one of the longest swinging bridges (160m) ever built in the country. It is the must visit sight in Punakha valley.
Evening will be leisure time, you may explore around Khuru town.
Overnight, halt at the hotel in Punakha.
Day 3 : Punakha to Bumthang / ALT- 2587M / 198km /7hrs
As you proceed towards Trongsa, reaching at Pele La Pass, you will come across the yaks grazing on the vast green land, Golden langur, wild pheasant and the variety of Rhododendron flowers. Reaching at Trongsa, you will visit the following places.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Trongsa Dzong:
Trongsa Dzong is considered as the largest Dzong built in 1648. During olden days, it had served as an ancestral home to the Royal Family. King in Bhutan holds the post of Trongsa Penlop at Trongsa Dzong prior being crowned as the King.
• Ta Dzong:
During earlier days, Ta Dzong had served as a watch tower overlooking Trongsa Dzong and now it is converted into a state-of beautiful Art and Heritage Museum. Overnight, you will halt at the hotel in Bumthang
Day 4 : Halt Bumthang / ALT-2587M
HIGHLIGHTS
• Yathra weaving centre at Chummy.
• Jaker Dzong, (Castle of white bird):
Jaker Dzong dominates the Chamkhar valley, built in 1549. This Dzong played as the fortress of defense for the whole eastern region and also it served as the seat of the first King of Bhutan. Now it houses the offices for the district administration, courts and the monk bodies.
• Kurjey Lhakhang:
It is dedicated to the saint Guru Padmasambhava who had meditated here in 8th century.
• Jambey Lhakhang:
It is one of the 108 monasteries built by King Songtsen Goenpo in the 7th century to subdue evil spirits in the Himalayan region.
Evening leisure time you may go around brushing the Chamkhar town.
• Cheese factory: This the main center for Cheese production that supplies to other parts of the country. Overnight in Bumthang
Day 5 : Bumthang to Mongar / ALT-1600M / 190kms / 6-7hrs
HIGHLIGHTS
Today the driving will be going through numerous Passes and down the Valleys. Such as like Sertangla pass (3590m), URA Valley, Thrumshingla National Park (3750M) and Kurichu valley a very good area for bird watching. Gradually driving past terraced rice paddies and pine forests we arrive at Monger. Overnight, halt at the hotel in Monger.
Day 6 : Monger to Trashi gang. / ALT-1070M / 80km / 3-4hrs
HIGHLIGHTS
From Monger the road ascends a while to Kori La pass (2400m) and next descend from the pass you will cross Yadi, a small town. Continue your drive to cross the Sherichhu river bridge and Dangme Chhu river bridge (Chakzam) from there you ascend till Trashi gang. You will notice that Trashi gang is a compact and bustling town which acts as a business hub in eastern Bhutan.
Overnight, halt at the hotel in Trashi gang
Day 7 : Trashigang via Chaling to Donmang Chu / ALT 3124M. / Trek Starts
19KM | 7-8 HOURS | 2217M ASCENT | 230M DESCENT | CAMP ALT 3124M
Today is the day; we will drive till Chaling and from there where we will start hike to discover the eastern Himalayas.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Scenic yak herder’s Huts pitched on the hill side
• Yaks and Sheep grazing on the vast greenery pasture
Night halt at Donmang chu Camp.
Day 8 : Donmang Chu to Merak / On trek / ALT 3520M
14KM | 5 HOURS | 396M ASCENT | CAMP ALT 3520M
HIGHLIGHTS
• Trail is interesting, mostly will have to follow winding and twisting rivers till you reach Merak Village.
• View from Camp site is spectacular against nearby mountains and villages.
Night halt in Camp at Merak Village.
Day 9 : Merak to Miksakteng / On trek / ALT 3080M
16KM | 5 HOURS | 633M ASCENT | 1073M DESCENT | CAMP ALT 3080M
HIGHLIGHTS
• Toughest journey of the trek, crossing the highest Nachung La pass at 4153m.
• Trail leads on tree-line with Juniper and Rhododendron
Night halt at Camp Miksakteng.
Day 10 : Miksakteng to Sakteng / on trek / ALT 3080
16KM | 5 HOURS | 633M ASCENT | 1073M DESCENT | CAMP ALT 3080M

• Trail will have high chances to spot Red Panda
• Camp will be pitched on outskirt of Sakteng Village.

Day 11 : Explore Sakteng

Day 12 : Sakteng to Joekhar Teng / on trek / ALT 1800M

• One should be vigilant to spot more Red Panda among trees.
Day 13 : Joekhar Teng via Phongmey to Trashigang / Trek ends

• On way back, you may stop at Rangjung to visit Rangjung Monastery located on a picturesque hilltop, founded by His Eminence the Garab Rinpoche.

Day 14 : Trashigang to Yonphula domestic airport / ALT 2573M / Flight to Paro
Trashi gang to Yonphula, the drive takes a little more than an hour. You will then take a flight from Yonphula to Paro which takes only 45 minutes.
• Paro National Museum:
The Museum houses some of the finest Bhutanese arts and Crafts and the detail exhibition on National bio-diversity of Bhutan.
• Paro Rinpung Dzong:
It is the beautiful Dzong built at the bank of Pa chu river. It is believed to have built on the heap of jewel. The figure is adorned with the traditional wooden cantilever bridge built at its foreground.

Day 15 : Hike to Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) / ALT 3120M
A short adventurous hike to Taktsang is the most rewarding and fulfilling visits of the entire tour. It is the heartland for the pilgrimage in Bhutan. The temple, popularly known as the “Tiger’s nest” is perched on the side of the cliff at a height of 900m above the Paro valley. It is the must visit sight of the entire tour. The uphill hike takes about 3 to 4 hours for normal hiker. Initial you may face challenged to hike but it is rewarding once you get to the real sight. Lunch will be served at cafeteria restaurant located up on the mountain.
If time permits, you will go for the following sightseeing. You may complete some last-minute shopping for souvenirs in Paro town
• Hot stone bath: (evening):
Towards conclusion of your tour, we recommend you to experience the best of Bhutanese traditional Hot Stone Bath for revitalization after days of your tiring treks and tours.. Your aches and pains will just melt away as you relax in and will emerge with renewed vigor and vitality.
Overnight, halt at the hotel in Paro.
Day 16 : Departure from Paro.
After breakfast, you will drive to airport for departure. Our representative will bid you a farewell.
