The accommodation is a private guest house with air-conditioned double bedrooms, in-suite private bathrooms, in-suite refrigerators, and sea view balconies from which you have a view of the Dubrovnik Old Town in the distance. Its located 40 meters from sea and within 5 minutes walk from several small isolated beaches. Cavtat is peaceful resort located only 25 minutes drive from the Dubrovnik Old Town. It is known best for its beautiful nature, clean uncrowded beaches, and long promenades by the sea, one of which is often lined with luxurious eye-catching yachts. A welcome drink will be served upon your arrival to the accommodation. In the evening after everyone arrives, we will have a welcome dinner where we will all get to know each other, and the tour program will be presented to you in detail.
Day 2 : Dubrovnik Exploration Day
Breakfast is served from 7 – 9 am. After breakfast we will take a 25 minute drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site – The Old Town of Dubrovnik, “Pearl of Adriatic”. To crack open the shell and see the pearl in its full beauty, we need the help of a licensed local guide. Our private sightseeing tour with a local guide will last for around 1.5 hours, after which you will have time to explore the city on your own and to have lunch. Free time at this point is very important because the Dubrovnik Old Town, unlike any other place in the region has an abundance of places to eat and drink, shops, museums, picturesque alleys, secluded corners, crazy busy streets, all of which cater to differing tastes and personalities. Be it food, wine, museums, photo opportunities, we include enough free time so you may feel unrestrained in exploring your interests outside of the organized group. Organizing a group lunch would significantly interfere with your ability to experience Dubrovnik life on your own terms.
After free time we’ll begin with our kayaking adventures. The kayaking tour will show you Dubrovnik from a completely different perspective. We will start from Pile Beach, just below the medieval walls of the Old Town. All necessary equipment will be provided and there is a changing area.
During the tour you will have the most amazing views of the city walls, fortresses hanging off the cliffs, the caves of Lokrum Island, and other spectacular landmarks. We’ll step out of the kayaks for some swimming and snorkeling at Betina Cave. We’ll then proceed towards St. Jacob’s beach and cross the channel towards Lokrum Island. Leaving the kayaks on the island, we will explore the Special Nature Reserve, a 900-year old Benedictine Monastery, a botanic garden, a 300-year old olive grove, and head towards the island lake where peacocks gather. We’ll swim in the lake, have a sandwich to reboot our energy levels, and head back to our kayaks. As we return to the Old Town, we’ll paddle into the Sunset with the city walls merging with the rocks to our right. Amazing view! Upon return to the start point at Pile Beach, we’ll have a glass of wine.
Following the tour, you will be transferred back to the accommodation in Cavtat and have dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 3 : Hiking to Velji Do and Sunset & Wine At Sea in Cavtat
After breakfast we will start an easy hike to the village of Velji Do (approx. 1 h) and summit Stražišće peak (approx. 30 min). The hike will follow an old trail that was built by the Austro-Hungarian military over 100 years ago. As we move higher along the mountain, the trail will reveal breathtaking views of the surrounding area below. Once we pass the village we will continue towards the summit of Stražišće peak (701 m) where there is a cross commemorating the fatal 1996 plane crash of the U.S.A. trade delegation led by Secretary of Commerce Ronald Brown. On the way down we will have lunch in the village of Velji Do at the traditional village restaurant Konavoski Komin. After lunch we will descend to Cavtat where you can relax at the accommodation or go for a swim at one of the many nearby beaches. At around 18:00 we’ll take a walk to the Cavtat Old Town where we will have a private sightseeing tour with a licensed local guide. After the tour we have prepared a special trip. We’ll board local boats at the old town harbor, and sail to a nearby site on the sea (if sea conditions are not good, we’ll walk to a nearby and secluded location by the sea). From there we’ll observe one of the most amazing Sunsets while sipping local wine. We’ll conclude with dinner in a local Cavtat restaurant.
Optional: If the weather conditions are too hot for hiking, we will cool down with a sea kayaking tour around the Cavtat archipelago and have lunch on an uninhabited island.
Day 4 : Biking in Dubrovnik’s Countryside – Konavle
Following breakfast we will take a 20 minute drive to the Konavle valley where we will explore the protected natural landscape at the heart of the Dubrovnik countryside. The starting point is Gruda, a picturesque small village where you will be given fully equipped Gary Fisher bikes, helmets, and water. The route will follow the village roads through Konavle where we will see vineyards, olive groves and many natural beauties of the valley. The first stop will be the village of Ljuta, where we will walk through the nature park at the river Ljuta. There we will see the old medieval watermills which are protected monuments. The route will take us along a paved road through several small villages in the valley. During a stop in the village of Pridvorje, we will see a 600-year old Franciscan monastery, also a protected monument. Shortly after leaving Pridvorje we will come to the fields and follow a dirt road that passes along vineyards, orchards, and the feeding grounds of sheep. The road will take us to a hidden lagoon, where we’ll stop to have some fruit and a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters of the river Ljuta (optional). After the break we’ll continue towards the winery where the biking segment will end. Once we arrive at the winery, Dubrovacki Podrumi, we’ll do a wine tasting of the award winning local wines. At around 14:00 we’ll return, by van, to the village Ljuta for lunch at Vinica Monković, a traditional restaurant along the river banks. Following an abundant lunch, we will drive to one of the most beautiful and unique beaches in this area for some swimming and free time. Note, today you will have the opportunity to swim both in the crystal clear waters of a river, and then in the clean blue sea.
Around 17:30 we will head back to the Cavtat accommodation, and shortly thereafter depart for our final dinner in a local restaurant, where we will celebrate all of our accomplishments.
Day 5 : Montenegro Exploration Day – Bay of Kotor
We are leaving Croatia and heading into the country of Montenegro. An early breakfast will be served from 7 – 8 am. We will be leaving promptly at 8 am, so you need to be packed and ready to go by then. We recommend you pack light, taking only the items necessary for an overnight stay in Montenegro. We will drive around 1.5 hours until we reach the town of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During the drive, we’ll stop for photos along the picturesque bay. Kotor is a medieval walled city with an impressive fortress carved into the dark mountainside above it. Upon reaching Kotor, we’ll walk around the old town and spend some time on the city walls climbing upwards until we reach St. John’s Fortress, which sits high upon the cliff overlooking the Bay of Kotor.
We’ll then descend back down to the Kotor Old Town for an organized lunch. After lunch you will have some free time to explore the town on your own. We will then have a 20 minute drive to Perast, where we’ll stop for photos and take a short boat ride to the Island of Our Lady of the Rocks. The town of Perast and the island are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the little church is also referred to as the “Second Sistine Chapel”. On the island, licensed local guide we will take us on a tour of the church and its museum.
From Perast we will take a 3 hour drive to our rafting camp, located in the Durmitor National Park. During the drive, we’ll stop for photos along the way. We will get settled at the wood cabins, have dinner, and enjoy music around the campfire.
Day 6 : Rafting the Tara River Canyon ( Montenegro)
Breakfast at the camp is served from 8 – 10:30 am. We recommend you have a late breakfast because lunch will be provided later in the afternoon. After breakfast we will prepare for rafting. All necessary equipment will be provided. Rafting on the Tara River is the thing to do in Montenegro. It is the single most exciting and desirable activity in the country. The river cuts through the 1300 meter deep Tara River Canyon, making it the deepest canyon in Europe and one of the deepest in the world. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At around 11:30 we will take a short drive to the starting point for rafting. There we will meet the skipper and other participants, and get a safety briefing. We will start rafting at around 12:00 through the most attractive part of the Tara River is the length of 18 km. There will be plenty of excitement as you navigate varying degrees of rapids and waterfalls. Rafting will last for about 3.5 to 4 hours with breaks for swimming and relaxation at nearby waterfalls, creeks, and fresh mountain springs. We will arrive back at camp around 16:00 where we will have a lunch of domestic cuisine. After lunch we will start our journey back to Cavtat, this time taking a route that will allow us to stop in Bosnia and Hercegovina for dinner (making it the third country where we will be eating during this tour!). After dinner, it’s a 30 minute drive back to our accommodation in Cavtat.
