DZONGRI LA TREK (SHORT TREK)
Trek to Dzongri, literally means, the place where man meets the gods of the mountains. It's the perfect trek for those who do not want to hike for a longer period of days, but still want to get the magical and a very close panoramic view of the Mt Kangchendzonga, the third highest peak of the world, rising from the rhododendron forests of Dzongri, 4200 m.
Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Bagdogra airport and transfer to Darjeeling, 2200m. Your guide and a driver will be waiting for you at the airport. Stay at Hotel.
Day 2: Himalayan Tow Train ride and walk through the town including visit to Himalayan Mountaineering Institute
Day 3: Transfer to Yuksom village from where your trek starts. Overnight stay at hotel.
Trek starts:
Day 4: Yuksom, 1800m to Sachen, 2200m. 3 hours walk. Easy walk to get used to get to the area and acclimatization.
Day 5: Sachen to Tshoka 2900m, 4 hours. The trail to Tshokha through the dense tropical forests of Kanchendzonga National Park will be filled with the magnificent views of beautiful forests wrapped with thick under growth of orchids and creepers spotted with Strawberry fruits and beautiful wild flowers. You can hear a mystical sound of the fresh mountain streams flowing down the valley all the way. The last few kilometres are particularly strenuous, as the trail has a continuous ascent with a gradient of 45 to 60 degrees right up to Tshoka from Bakkhim.
Day 6: A Rest day at Tshoka for acclimatization. Enjoy the day with the local Tibetan family and the Ariel view of Darjeeling and the small villages in west Sikkim.
Day 7: Tshoka to Dzongri, 4010m, 5 hours walk. After breakfast, start a steady walk uphill all the way to Dzongri la. This part of the trek will be challenging, you can also get caught with the symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness due to gaining altitude but your rest day at Tshoka village will certainly help you to get rid of it.
The thick dense forest dissolves into Pine trees and then to high altitudes of shola grasslands. During the spring season, the mountain slopes will be textured into colorful carpets with tons of Rhododendron and Kurinji Flowers. Camp at Yak grazing ground.
Day 8: Dzongri top and back to Tshoka. Your final day of ascent and an inevitable part of the day will be the sunrise view at Dzongri peak, 4200m. You will start walking early in morning by 5 am, a kilometre of steep ascent over the boulders along the narrow trail but the effort will be worthwhile.
After breakfast freewheeling downhill walk to Tshoka for 4 hours.
Day 9: Back tracking the same route to Yuksom for 4 hrs. Overnight at comfortable Hotel Tashigang.
Day 10: Transfer to Bagdogra airport or continue tour.Food before and after trek, tip, personal shopping, Travel insurance of the group , flight etc..03-0412-04
