Day 1 : Arrive Addis Ababa
On Arrival In Addis Ababa Please Make Your Own Way To The Group Hotel. Depending On Your Arrival Time, The Remainder Of The Day Is Free To Explore The City'S Many Wide Tree-Lined Streets, Museums And The "Mercato". This Colourful Market Is The Largest In Eastern Africa And Has An Array Of Fascinating Goods And Curios, Providing A Perfect Place For Exploration And People Watching. Addis Ababa Is The Third Highest Capital In The World And The Altitude May Fatigue You Easily... So Take It Easy Today. (Another Point To Note Is That, Being Relatively Close To The Equator, There Is Almost Twelve Hours Of Constant Daylight No Matter What Time Of Year You Are Here. Day 2 : Fly To Bahir Dar, Visit Blue Nile Falls And Island Monastery
We Depart Around 7:00Am On The First Flight Of The Day From Addis Ababa To Bahir Dar With Ethiopian Airlines. On Arrival We Will Visit The Tissisat Falls (Blue Nile Falls Or "Smoke Of Fire"). Lake Tana, Ethiopia'S Largest Lake Covering 3000 Square Kms, Is The Source Of The Blue Nile River And Feeder Of The Volume Of Water Cascading Over The Falls. The Blue Nile Falls Are 400 Metres Wide When In Flood And Fall Over A Sheer Chasm More Than 45 Metres In Height. The Morning Is An Ideal Time To Gain The Best Panoramic Views And Sometimes Rainbows Appear Over The Horizon At This Time Of Day. We Then Take A Boat Trip Among The Network Of Islands Scattered Across The 3000 Square Km Of Lake Tana. About Twenty Of The 37 Islands On The Lake Shelter Historical Churches And Monasteries, Ornately Decorated With Beautiful Mural Paintings And Holding Many Treasures. Day 3 : Drive To Gondar
Another Early Start For The 3-4 Hour Drive (185Km) To Gondar, The Old Capital Of Ethiopia. Gondar Has Now Become One Of Ethiopia'S Largest And Most Impressive Cities, With Its Walled Royal Enclosure. This Enclosure Lies At Gondar'S Centre And Contains Several Well Preserved Castles And Other Buildings. We Take Time This Afternoon To Tour These Castles And Churches, Immersing Ourselves In The History Of This Old Capital. Our Crew Will Stock Up On Food Supplies In Anticipation Of The Trek Ahead Of Us. Overnight Hotel.
Day 4 : Sankabar - Geech
Early Departure For Sanka Bar And We Continue Driving To Ayenew Meda (41 Kms)
This Day Is The Day That We Arrange All The Trekking Staff Including Mules And Muleteers For Packing And Transport Of Camping Gears And All Foodstuffs For The Trek. It Is This Day That We Start To Walk In The National Park. We Walk To Geech. O/N Camping At Geech Campsite (3600M).
Day 5 : Optional Summit Of Imet Gogo (3926M) (Approx. 3 - 5 Hrs)
From Geech We Take An Optional 2 Hr Hike Up To The Summit Of Imetgogo. It Is Possible To See A Vast Expanse Of Lowlands And Gain Some Perspective Of This Incredible Mountain Range. There Are Also Options To Take A Circuit Walk To Gidar Got And Saha. We Take Things Steadily To Help The Acclimatisation Process Whilst Enjoying One Of The Most Dramatic Trekking Days Imaginable. The Most Common Animal In This Area Is The Gelada Baboon, Unique To Ethiopia And Also Known As The Bleeding Heart Baboon, Or Lion Monkey. Klipspringers And Grey Duikers May Also Be Seen In This Area But It Is Usually Only A Glimpse As They Nimbly Spring Across The Rock Face. Another Or Ethiopia'S Endemic Species, The Walia Ibex With Its Distinctively Ridged Horns, Can Sometimes Be Seen On The Rocky Crags Of The Escarpments. Overnight Camp.
Day 6 : To Chenek (Approx. 7 - 9 Hrs)
We Continue Trekking The Length Of The Escarpment To Chenek, Which Is Bounded By A Semi Circular Ring Of Cliffs. The Walk Today Is About 7-9 Hours Of Undulations, With Some Steep Ups And Downs On A Very Seldom Used Track. The Chenek Campsite Offers Superb Views And Again There Are Many Places To See The Walia Ibex. Geladas Are Seldom Found Far From Cliffs. Like The Walia, They Are Well Adapted To Living On Nearly Vertical Faces And At The First Site Of Danger Will Plunge Over The Edge Where Danger Cannot Follow. The Simien Fox Or Abyssinian Wolf, Though Named After This Area, Is Now Rarely Seen, Though You May Hear Its High Pitched Call At Night. These Mountains Are Also Noted For Cliff-Nesting Birds Of Prey, In Particular The Large And Powerful Lammergeyer. These Birds Have A Wing Span Of Almost 3 Metres And Are Frequently Seen Performing Aerial Acrobatics Above Us. Overnight Camp.
Day 7 : To Ambiko (Approx. 8 - 9 Hrs)
This Morning We Leave For Ambiko At The Foot Of Ras Dashen (Or Ras Dejen). We Go Half Way Up Bwahit Peak (4430M), The Second Highest Mountain On Our Route, For An Incredible Outlook Of Our Campsite Below. After About 1.5 Hours Of Trekking Uphill We Will Reach A Viewpoint Looking Across The Vast Valley Of The Mesheha River. From Here We Will Also Get Our First Sighting Of Ras Dashen (4533M), The Highest Point In A Wall Of Cliffs And Peaks On The Skyline At The Far Side Of The Valley. We Then Take The Path Down And Across The Meshwa River Before Steeply Climbing To The Village Of Ambiko, Where We Will Camp For The Night.
Day 8 : Summit Ras Dashen (4533M) (Approx. 8 - 10 Hrs)
Today'S Optional Climb To The Highest Point In Ethiopia, The Summit Of Ras Dashen At 4533M, Requires A Dawn Start. We Climb Slowly And Steadily Through Giant Lobelia Forests For About 5-6 Hours, Before A Steep Scramble For 20 Minutes To The Summit. On The Summit We Will Take A Rest And Absorb The Spectacular Panorama That Awaits. In Clear Weather It Is Possible To See As Far As Eritrea. From The Top We Scramble Downwards For About 3-4 Hours, Back To Our Campsite At Ambiko.
Day 9 : Ambiquo - Cheneek
Trekking To Chenek And .Over Night Sankaber Camping.
Day 10 : Cheneek - Gondar
Meet The Cars And Drive Continue Gondar .Over Nights Hotel.
Day 11 : Gondar - Lalibela
Drive Llibela On The Way Visit The Interesting Land Escape And People.Hotel.
Day 12 : Aug,Lalibela, Visit Monolithic Churches
This Morning Start To Visit To Lalibela, Located At An Altitude Of 2,600M Above Sea Level. The City Contains 11 Monolithic Churches That Were Built In The 12Th Century And Are Carved Out Of The Local Pink Granite Rock. These Structures Have Been Classified As One Of The Seven Wonders Of The World. Each Church Has A Unique Architectural Style; All Are Superbly Carved And Most Of Them Are Decorated With Well-Preserved Paintings. The Entire City May Be Described As A Sculpture Dedicated To The Glory Of God. The Day Is Dedicated To Visiting Some Of These Churches And The City Itself. Overnight Hotel.
Day 13 : Lalibela - Kombolcha
Morning Drive Kombolcha On The Way Visit Haik Lack. O/N/ Hotel.
Day 14 : Kombolcha - Addis
Drive Back To Addis If Departure Is In The Evening, Shopping Visit Sites In Addis If Not Done On Day1. Welfare Dinner At Best Traditional Restaurant With Live Tribal Dances And Music Then Transfer To Bole International Airport In The Evening For Departure (End Of The Trip).
