In an ideal world, most of us would like to stand at the summit of the earth, 8,848 meters above sea level on Mt Everest.
Most of us, realistically, will not be able to do this! But if you have good fitness and persistence, you can reach Everest Base Camp!
And, believe me, the views of Everest from Kalapatthar are the best you can get without spending weeks hiking up to the peak!
Hopefully, you've read through our sections on the Everest Base Camp Journey and have acquired all of the information you need to help you decide when you want to undertake this trek, what to carry with you on the EBC route, and some of the highlights of the trek itself. This is, in our opinion, one of the greatest hiking routes in the world!
Highlights of the Everest Base Camp Trek
Stand at the foot of Mount Everest, in awe of its grandeur and scale.
Watch the sun set over Mount Everest from Kalapatthar, often known as the Everest viewpoint.
Fly into Lukla's high altitude Hilary Tenzing Airport, an adventure in and of itself.
Visit Sherpa communities and interact with Tibetan-like people and yak herders.
Stay at Namche Bazaar, where all Everest adventures begin.
The chilling splendor of the Khumbu Glacier and Khumbu Icefalls will leave you speechless.
Use the necessary acclimatization days to learn about the Sherpa way of life as you pass through Sagarmatha National Park, with its diverse flora and animals.
Visit Tengboche Monastery, which has a significant spiritual significance.
This is not a luxury tour; it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
The rooms are shared by two people. Hot showers, WiFi, and power outlets are available for a modest fee. The accommodations are not fancy, but where else can you look out your window and see the Himalayan mountains?
Fresh Himalayan cuisine is available at teahouses along the trek. Where else can you appreciate the splendor of the Khumbu Valley while eating boiling hot DalBhat?
It is necessary to be physically fit. However, we will make certain that you are thoroughly acclimatized to the altitude. We recommend staying hydrated and limiting your alcohol consumption during the hike.
If you don't want to hike but yet want to view Mount Everest, consider the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour.

Hotel accommodation
Day 2 : Day 2: Kathmandu to Lukla (Flight) to Phakding
Flight time: 35 to 40 minutes
Trek time: 3 to 4 hours
Accommodation: Tea House
Because of changes in legislation and upgrades at Kathmandu's domestic airport, flights to Lukla are extremely likely to operate out of Manthali Airport in Ramechhap District.
This entails a four-hour nighttime trip from Kathmandu. The flight from Manthali will take 20 minutes and will depart early in the morning.
When you arrive in Lukla, our knowledgeable local porters will greet you. As we go down the route to Phakding, we observe fluttering Tibetan prayer flags and locals reciting Tibetan mantras as they walk.
Day 3 : Day 3: Phakding to Namche
Trek time: 5 to 6 hours
Accommodation: Tea House
The walk today takes us through woodlands, typical communities with cultivated fields, and yak pastures. Thamserku rises over us as we approach the Sagarmatha National Park's entrance.
We proceed on to Namche Bazaar after lunch. This is the Khumbu Region's largest Sherpa settlement and the beginning point for excursions and trekking groups.
If you neglected to buy some last-minute products (such as chocolate) in Kathmandu, you may do it here.
Day 4 : Day 4: Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazar
Trek time: 5 to 6 hours
Accommodation: Tea House
Today is an acclimatization day, in which we will enable our bodies to acclimate to the high altitude. But it doesn't mean we don't take action! Being active is the greatest way to acclimate.
There is the possibility of spending a few hours hiking or viewing the region. Visit Sir Edmund Hillary's school in Khumjung village as a thank you for all the help the Sherpa people offered him during his successful climb of Mt Everest.
Kwangde (6,011m), Thamserku (6,623m), Kangtega (6,782m), Nuptse (7,861m), Lhotse (8,516m), Ama Dablam (6,812m), and, of course, Mount Everest are among the summits visible today (8,848m).
Day 5 : Day 5: Namche to Tengboche
Trek time: 5 to 6 hours
Accommodation: Tea House
There aren't many hard ascents and descents these days, so there's plenty of time to focus on photography! Stupas (Buddhist shrines), prayer flags, mani walls (walls with Buddhist prayers engraved into them), and mountains like Ama Dablam are all worth shooting.
The trek to Tengboche is a dusty switchback route, but the views from the monastery make it all worthwhile. If you are fortunate enough to be able to attend a service, a little gift would be greatly appreciated. You can certainly light some butter lights.
Day 6 : Day 6: Tengboche to Dingboche
Trek time: 4 to 5 hours
Accommodation: Tea House
The path is, of course, quite picturesque, but it is also pretty difficult today. We begin by following the Imja Khola before ascending to Dingboche's windswept fields (mostly potato).
This is the Khumbu Region's highest Sherpa village. From here, the views of Ama Dablam are exceptionally stunning and dramatic. We'll be at Dingboche in time for lunch. The remainder of the afternoon is free to read a book or simply stare out at the mountains.
Day 7 : Day 7: Acclimatization Day in Dingboche
Trek time: 4 to 5 hours
Accommodation: Tea House
With the increasing altitude, it is critical to take an extra day to acclimate. Today, there are several possibilities for short hikes.
Visit the base of Nangkar Tshang Peak, which contains holy places and offers views of Mt Makalu. This climb will take between 3.5 and 5 hours round trip, and the increasing altitude will help our bodies prepare for the high elevations ahead.
Day 8 : Day 8: Dingboche to Lobuche
Trek time: 4 to 5 hours
Accommodation: Tea House
The walk today begins with a gradual ascent towards the Pheriche Valley. We pass through alpine brush and yak pastures as we hike above the valley bottom. Tawoch and Cholotse are on exhibit, with Ama Dablam in the background. Ama Dablam looks to be rising immediately from the valley floor from this vantage point.
The route continues to Thokla Pass, where the elevation is difficult. A photographer's dream, with panoramic views of Nuptse, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, and a few more 7,000+ meter peaks!
We arrive at Lobuche after crossing the pass. Although the village itself is not particularly appealing, the environment surrounding it is both gorgeous and striking.
Day 9 : Day 9: Lobuche to Gorakshep (Afternoon hike to Kalapatthar)
Trek time: 6 to 7 hours
Accommodation: Tea House
This is a thrilling day! Today we climb to the Everest summit. First, the trek leads us for almost 3 hours across stones and rocky terrain to Gorakshep, a little village.
After lunch, depart for Kalapatthar, where the views of Everest are simply the greatest you can get. This is the greatest height we can trek in Nepal without obtaining climbing permits, at 5,545m. It is more of a ridge than a mountain, as its name implies.
If the weather is not clear, we may depart Kalapatthar in the morning because dawn over Everest is just as spectacular as sunset. If we choose this option, we will walk to Everest Base Camp today. Please keep in mind that trekking groups do not proceed directly to the base camp where expeditions are set up.
This is to ensure that we do not disrupt the climbers' activities or endanger their health. (We don't want to infect them with our colds and flu when they're about to go on such an exciting adventure!) However, we have an excellent perspective of everything that is going on.
Day 10 : Day 10: Gorakshep to Pheriche (Morning Hike to EBC)
Trek time: 7 to 8 Hours
Accommodation: Tea House
If we didn't go to Kalapatthar yesterday, we'll get there this morning before returning to Gorakshep for breakfast. Likewise, if we did not visit Everest Base Camp on day 9, we will do so this morning. Returning from Gorakshep takes between 3 and 4 hours.
After breakfast, we drive for around 4 hours to Pheriche. The Himalayan Rescue Association Clinic is located in this little town.
It is now a hospital, but it is still focused on altitude sickness and altitude-related illnesses of trekkers and climbers, as well as the health of the local population. This is an intriguing aspect of the area, staffed primarily by volunteer medical workers.
Day 11 : Day 11: Pheriche to Namche Bazaar
Trek time: 6 to 7 hours
Accommodation: Tea House
Today's path falls significantly, but there are also some uphills to contend with! As we get closer to Namche, the trees and vegetation reappear.
This is a long day of trekking, made more difficult by the difficult hike the day before. But keep going because a tasty meal and a hot shower await! And now is the time to toast your successful trip to Everest Base Camp with a cold one!
With wifi now accessible, it's also a good opportunity to check in with loved ones back home and possibly share a few photos from your trip.
Day 12 : Day 12: Namche to Lukla
Trek time: 5 to 6 hours
Accommodation: Tea House
Take one last glance at the spectacular Himalayan mountains in the early morning, and bid farewell to the Khumbu Valley and Mount Everest. Then, as we make our final lengthy ascent into Lukla, keep your head down.
Day 13 : Day 13: Lukla to Kathmandu (Flight)
Flight time: 35 to 40 minutes
Accommodation: Hotel
This morning, we bid farewell to Mt. Everest and the Khumbu Region as we catch our flight back to Kathmandu or Manthali. We'll be back in Kathmandu for brunch or in the early afternoon, depending on which airport is open at the time and, of course, the weather. Then we'll go shopping before our goodbye meal in the evening.
Day 14 : Day 14: Departure
After breakfast, our representative will transport you to Tribhuvan International Airport in plenty of time for your onward trip. If you are staying longer in Nepal or have a late flight, please keep in mind that hotel check-out time is 11 a.m.
