Everest base camp trekking is the most popular trekking in Nepal done by thousands of visitors every year. The elegance and the beauty of Everest cannot be described in words and can only be fathomed by the heart. Mount Everest or ‘Sagarmatha’ (as called in the local dialect) or ‘Chomolungma’ (in Tibetan), means to stand tall and proud and is a panorama in itself. Journey to its base camp is not for the faint-hearted. It is for the ones who are ready to take on any challenge heads on, that Nature might throw towards them and hence correctly nicknamed by many as ‘Steps to Heaven’.
From the very moment we enter the typical Sherpa villages in the Everest (Khumbu), dotted with Buddhist monasteries with its roots deep in the Buddhist religion and culture is sure to enchant you from day one. An average day here would be a walk in the hills and passes with an uphill terrain and a view enough to keep everyone tongue tied for the rest of the path. The alpine chilly climate in the region requires you to be strong willed and not afraid of the snow and the volatile weather conditions that might prevail at any given point of time. The best time to travel to the Everest base camp is from February to June and again from September to November.
There are many ways and routes as well to do the Everest trekking depending upon the traveler/s’ requirement. Short on time, take the flight to / from Lukla and get a helicopter back from Everest base camp to Lukla to expedite it further. If you want to make the most of this trip, let nature seep into every pore in your body then trek via Jiri. Either way, Everest base camp is not a distant dream anymore and can be undertaken anytime of the year by anyone who has the will enough to do it.
