However, if the hikers are interested in additional activities we can take a side trip to a nearby monastery. We will stay overnight at Phakding.

  • Day 3 : Phakding - Namche Bazaar (3440 m/11,280 ft.): 5-6 hrs.

After around two hours of ascension we get the first sight of Mt. Everest peering over the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. We stop and admire the view from Chautara and then hike another 1.5 hours to finally reach Namche Bazaar, the gateway to Mt. Everest and main trading center of the region.
We stay overnight in Namche Bazaar

  • Day 4 : Acclimatization Day - Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/11,284 ft.)

    Included meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Namche Bazaar is one of the most attractive settlement and the main trading center in the Khumbu Region. Historically, it was an important staging point for trading expedition across the Nangpa La into Tibet. Because of the steep climb from Phakding, it is essential to stay at least one extra night to adjust to the altitude. Health experts recommend trekkers to stay active during the acclimatization period instead of being idle. Thus, spend the entire day either exploring Namche Bazaar or visiting the neighboring village of Khunde or Thame.
Namche Bazaar is populated with government offices, ATMs, museums, internet cafes, shops, restaurants and bakery café for your recreational and travel needs. Visit museums to see an assortment of things related to the first Everest ascenders; learn about the Sherpa culture and also the various plant and animal life found in the region.
We will stay overnight at Namche Bazaar.

  • Day 5 : Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,870 m/12,694 ft.) - 5 to 6 hrs.

    Included meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After Breakfast at Namche, we journey to Tengboche through the pine forest. Enjoy the view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse (7,861 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Ama Dablam and close-up view of Thaserku. The trail is fairly level to Kayangjuma and eventually leads to Sansa, a major trail junction to Gokyo valley and Everest Base Camp. We follow the path through the forests and cross the bridge over Dudh Koshi River to reach Phunki Thenga, a small settlement with a couple of tea houses and a small army post amidst the alpine woods. The trail then ascends steeply through the pine forest to reach Tengboche. The major attractions of Tengboche are close-up views of Ama-Dablam, Nuptse, Everest and the biggest Buddhist Monastery in Khumbu Region. The ceremony in the principal and popular monastery of the Everest region can be witnessed every day at around 3p.m.
Overnight stay at lodge in Tengboche

  • Day 6 : Tengboche to Dingboche (4,360 m/14,300 ft.): 5 to 6 hrs.

    Included meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Spend the morning enjoying the spectacular view of the morning light on the mountains and the monastery before we begin the journey to Dingboche. We take the upper trail to visit Pangboche village and its ancient monastery. We will pass through several Chortens and Mani walls and small villages, and enjoy lunch with a fantastic view of Ama- Dablam. In the afternoon we will trek to Pheriche. As we enter the Imja Valley the terrain begins to be fairly moderate. When we start to approach the confluence of the Lobuche River the valley will start to widen. We descend into the river and begin the steepest climb of the day up to Dingboche. Dingboche has an array of beautiful fields of barley, buckwheat and potatoes enclosed by stonewalls to protect it from cold winds and grazing animals.
Overnight stay in a lodge at Dingboche.

  • Day 7 : Dingboche - Dughla (4,600 m/15,090 ft.): 3 to 4 hrs.

    Included meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
We begin today’s hike to Dughla. Indulge in the awesome views of the mountains on all sides while trekking along the arid terrace until we reach Dusa, also known as a yak herder’s place. As we continue onwards Phulung Karpo the valley begins to get narrower. The Chola Lake is located above the Phulung Karpo and as we continue forward we gaze upon the majestic view of Mt. Pumori (7,138m). As the trail descends and curves we come across a roaring stream crossing it via a small wooden bridge ascending to Dughla. From here you can spot the tip of Nuptse, Cholatse, Thamserku and several other magnificent peaks. Spending the night at Dughla is ideal for the acclimatization purpose.
    Overnight at Dughla

  • Day 8 : Duglha - Lobuche (4940 m/16,207 ft.): 2 to 4 hour trek

    Included meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
We start the trek up the steep moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. We find our way through the boulder-strewn slopes as we ascend Chupki Lhara, an eerie ridge top with dramatic mountainous views. As the trail drops to the Khumbu glacier moraine we reach the vicinity of Everest; though the mountain remains hidden we find ourselves in front of several great peaks - Khumbutse, Lingtren (6,714 m), Pumori and Mahalangur Himal (8,848 m). With Nuptse towering to the right we follow the trail crossing the Khumbu Glacier. As we trek along a murmuring stream we do not see the Khumbu glacier because of its lateral moraine wall. Here we begin to feel a little out of breath due to high altitude.
    Overnight in Lobuche

  • Day 9 : Lobuche - Gorak Shep [5170 m/16,961 ft.] - Everest Base Camp [5364 m/17,594 ft.] - Gorak Shep: 8-9 hrs.

    Included meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
We reach Gorak Shep by trekking through the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. A small ascent would take us to Thangma Riju from where we can get 360 degree vista of the Himalaya. As we climb to the top through the torrent of Changri glacier, we will catch first glimpse of a grey-green knoll beneath Mt. Pumori known as Kala Patthar.
When we find ourselves surrounded by snowcapped mountains we would have reached Gorak Shep. After a brief lunch and rest, we follow the trail through the once vast Gorak Shep Lake to reach the Everest Base Camp. We can view Nuptse, Khumbutse and Pumori mountains from the base camp however Everest is not visible from here. By now we have met the objective of our trip as we stand in the shadow of the daunting summit of Everest. You can continue the trek to Kala Patthar today itself as the view from Kala Patthar at sunset is more admirable than the sunrise. The panorama resulting as the setting sun's rays strikes the snowcapped mountains simply cannot be described in words. For those trekkers who wish to continue to Kala Patthar, our guides and Sherpas will coordinate your hike to Kala Patthar for the sunset view today rather than waiting until the next day.
Overnight stay in Gorak Shep at a tea house.

  • Day 10 : Gorak Shep - Everest Base Camp - Pheriche [4280 m /14,070 ft.]: 8-9 hrs.

    Included meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
We begin the day by catching the impressive views from Kala Patthar when the first light of day kisses Mount Everest. However, we have to be prepared beforehand for a dark and cold early morning temperature (-10 to -14 degree Celsius) and possibly chilly winds. After several hours of ascent we reach Kala Patthar, which is marked by cairns and prayer flags; absorb the awe inspiring view of the Himalayan panorama. We spend some time to capture the awesome view in our mind as well as on film and then return to Gorak Shep and have breakfast. Participants who hike to Everest Base Camp today will have an early breakfast as the route is 4-5 hours long. Upon their return to Gorak Shep, the group will have lunch together and descend to Pheriche.
    Overnight stay at Pheriche

  • Day 11 : Pheriche – Pangboche – Tengboche - Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/11,280 ft.): 5-6 hrs.

We stop and have a relaxing lunch with the sight of Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Nuptse at Kyangjuma (3570 m). We follow the trail along winding bends clinging to the steep wooded slope beyond Kyangjuma, to Namche Bazaar. En route you will get to observe the Buddhist way of life, Mani walls, chortens and monasteries. Also keep a lookout for wild life as you pass through the forest. After passing a Chorten, we reach the army camp at Namche Bazaar. On reaching our lodge, we take a nice hot shower and have very relaxed sleep in our room in Namche Bazaar.
    Overnight in Namche Bazaar

  • Day 12 : Namche Bazaar-Lukla (2,800 m/9,186 ft.): 6-8 hrs.

    Included meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
We descend steeply downwards on the trail continuously battling the rocky terrain, across the suspension bridge over the fast flowing Dudh Koshi. After we reach the river trail becomes more level and natural. We will walk through the Sherpa villages observing the influence of Buddhism in the culture, prayer stones and prayer flags. Overnight in Kathmandu

  • Day 14 : Farewell Friend

    Included meal: Breakfast (B)
The time has come to say goodbye to the Himalaya as your trip to Nepal comes to a close. If you have time you can squeeze in some more shopping or sightseeing. Approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight a representative from Arihant Holidays will escort you to the airport.
FYI: The Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu flight often gets delayed by a few hours or may even be canceled for a day or two due to unfavorable weather conditions. Thus be prepared for long waits! However, be assured that we will do our level best to avoid such delays, and fix you on next flight. Still, we suggest you to be prepared for possible delays/cancellation, and if possible to come with some extra days to spare (1-2 days) at the end of the trip to accommodate such delays.
