The Everest Base Camp expedition is one of Nepal’s most popular adventure trips. We begin our journey from the prosperous village of Lukla, trekking through the foothills of the Himalaya range, breathing in the fresh air of the mountains and the aroma of the forest. Treat your ears to the peaceful tranquility and the sound of the babbling brooks. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the majestic Himalayas. Visit the traditional trading post to Tibet- Namche Bazaar; the capital of the Sherpas. Mingle with the Sherpas and learn about their culture, visit their monasteries and wildlife museums. SHERPA
Originally of Tibetan origin, Sherpa is the ethnic group found in the Helambu, Langtang and Solukhumbu region of Nepal. Sherpa language, culture and tradition are heavily influence by Tibetan scriptures. Sherpas follow Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism, founded by Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). The Sherpa community uses clan system for rituals of matrimony. Sherpa hospitality tradition is ancient and important. They believe that guest might be Padmasambhava in disguise. Besides farming herding and training majority of Sherpas work for the tourism industry. They are the most efficient mountaineers in the world.
Day 1 : Arrive in Kathmandu (1,300m /4,264 ft.)

Your much awaited journey to kiss the sky begins with your arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) – Kathmandu. After completing custom formalities and claiming your baggage head towards the arrival gate where you will be greeted by a representative from Arihant Holidays.com. You will be transferred to Kathmandu Guest House or similar standard hotel. Later in the evening a welcome dinner in a traditional Nepalese Restaurant featuring a Nepalese cultural program will be waiting for you to celebrate your arrival.
Day 2 : Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

On the second day be ready for heritage galore. Kathmandu which once used to house three ancient cities is rich in its cultural heritage. You will have plenty to see of the Newari arts and culture after the breakfast. Your sightseeing for the day includes both heritage and pilgrimage sites all of which are counted in UNESCO world heritage sites.
Swaymbhunath is a popular ancient Buddhist pilgrimage site, also known as the Monkey temple. Its structure is a white dome with a gold conical shape on top, which is painted with the watchful eyes of Buddha. A mythological story about origin of Swayambhu states that a lotus that radiated dazzling light sprung at the very spot where the dome is today. The lotus is said to have been planted by Buddha. After climbing 365 stairs that lead to the temple you can explore many legends and mythological stories about its existence.
Pashupatinath Temple is the popular pilgrimage site of the Hindus. The main temple is that of Lord Shiva. Though the temple is barred to non-Hindus a good view of the famous pagoda style structure of the temple complex, courtyard and the other shrines can be viewed from the opposite bank of the Bagmati River. Shiva’s manifestation as Pashupati lord of animal, is considered one of the holiest sites of the Hindus and is a must visit once in a lifetime to gain salvation. You can also see the Hindus cremation site Aryaghat at the bank of Bagmati River.
Bouddhanath is the largest and the most important holy place for the Buddhists. It is also famous for its power to fulfill wishes and blessings. The base of the stupa is a square shaped terraced plinth representing joy, love, compassion and calmness. The white dome shaped structure on top is painted with yellow to represent lotus. Above which a square tower representing fire is painted with eyes of Buddha. On top of it is the gold conical shaped structure representing air and followed by an umbrella on topmost part symbolizing space.
Kathmandu (Hanuman Dhoka) Durbar Square is a public square containing ancient palaces, temples, statues and streets. There is an ancient wood pavilion Kasthmandap made by wood gathered from a divine tree, Kalpa Vriksha, build centuries ago. It is this pavilion from which the city got its name Kathmandu. Taleju temple is the oldest and the tallest building in the area, door of which is opened only once in a year during the festival of Dashain. The buildings in the durbar square are important link to the history of Nepal. Hanuman Dhoka is the name given after idol of Hindu monkey god Hanuman which is placed near the entrance of the ancient palace. At Kathmandu you will get to marvel the traditional art and crafts of the Newars, in the form of intricate wood work, sculptors and architecture.
As you go for sightseeing, don’t get carried away as you may have to purchase the gears that you might require for the trekking. The stores equipped with trekking gears can be spotted easily at Thamel, couple of minute walk from Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square. You will spend this night in Kathmandu, however finish packing and be well rested for the next day.
Day 3 : Kathmandu - Lukla - Phakding (2,652 m/8,700 ft.): 3-4 hrs.

After breakfast you will get transferred to the domestic terminal in TIA where you depart for Luka. When we land in Tenzing-Hillary Airport at Lukla, a hillside surrounded by high mountain peak, you will meet up with the rest of the trek team to start the journey. We begin the trek through the prosperous village of Lukla, along the steep terrain, catching the first glimpse of Dudh Koshi River, across a metal suspension bridge until we reach Phakding. Also, you will get a taste of the rich culture and religious belief in the region as you discover Mani walls, chortens, boulders carved with Tibetan mantra and bright painted prayer wheels. Overnight stay at Phakding.
Day 4 : Phakding - Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/ 11,280 ft.): 5-6 hrs.

As we depart from Phakding we will take a trail north alongside the Dudh Koshi River and through the sweet-smelling pine forest above the west bank of the river. A steep climb follows however you will be rewarded by the first glimpse of Thamserku (6,608m) which rises to the east of Namche Bazaar. We must cross Dudh Koshi River over a suspension bridge, trek past the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park, trail through villages entwined with forest of rhododendron, magnolia and fir and follow a zigzagging ascent through the Pine forest to reach our destination: Namche Bazaar, the capital of Sherpas. Overnight stay at Namche Bazaar.
Day 5 : Namche Bazaar: Rest day
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today is a reserve day for acclimatization. Health experts suggest staying active during the rest day instead of being idle. We have the option of spending the entire day either exploring Namche Bazaar or visiting the neighboring village- Khunde or Thame. Namche Bazaar is one of the most attractive settlement and the main trading center in the Khumbu Region. Historically, it was an important staging point for trading expedition across the Nangpa La into Tibet.
Namche Bazaar is populated with government offices, ATMs, museums, internet cafes, shops, restaurants and bakery café for your recreational and travel needs. Visit museums to see an assortment of things related to the first Everest ascenders; learn about the Sherpa culture and also the various plant and animal life found in the region. Overnight stay at Namche Bazaar.
Day 6 : Namche Bazaar to Tengboche
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today we will pick up the path walking in the presence of mighty peaks Thamserku (6,623 m) to Ama Dablam (6,812 m). Following the trail through a forest of tall mature rhododendrons you can find various species of wildlife like musk deer and Himalayan Thar in their natural habitat. The entrance of Tengboche is marked with a Kani and a pair of chortens. The village is located below a crescent shaped ridge covered by shrub pine and rhododendrons. The hub of Tengboche is the famous Tengboche Gompa, where the festival of Mani Rimdu is celebrated yearly featuring colorful masked dancers. You can also marvel the magnificent view of the Himalayas. Overnight stay at Tengboche.
Day 7 : Tengboche to Dingboche (4,360 m/14,300 ft.): 5- 6 hrs.
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Leaving Tengboche through a forest of dwarf conifers and rhododendrons keep a look out for wildlife like the monal pheasants and musk deer. Follow the path which drops steeply to the suspension bridge over the Imja Khola and climbs over the hillside. We descend and trek along the Imja Khola across a small bridge to ascend up to the scattered houses of Dingboche. Overnight stay at Dingboche.
Day 8 : Dingboche - Chhukung [4,750 m/ 15,580 ft.]: 3-4 hrs.
It is an acclimatization trek, which begins with descend down to Khumbu Khola from where you ascend trailing beside the river to the village of Dingboche. It will take you almost an hour to reach Dingboche. Compared to the relatively easy trail you will now climb upwards to higher altitude causing strain on your lungs as it adapts to the thin air. You will be staying at tea house in Chhukung.
Day 9 : Rest Day in Chhukung
Rest Day at Chhukung is highly recommended for acclimatization. Chhukung is a village surrounded on all sides by glacial moraines. You will get a spectacular view of the Island Peak. Today we will take a side trip to Chhukung Ri from where you will get a splendid panoramic view of Mt. Makalu (8,463 m), Ama Dablam and Baruntse (7,220 m). You will head back to Chhukung retiring for the day.
Day 10 : Chhukung - Kongma La [5,535 m/ 18,159 ft.] -Lobuche [4940 m/ 16,210 ft.]: 6-7 hrs.
Today you will trek across Kongma La pass to reach Lobuche. With an early start you will traverse the remote pass where you will not find a single human settlement. As you slowly start climbing the hills, you can observe the towering Island Peak and Amphu Lapcha (5,845 m). You will slowly approach a landscape that resembles the moon’s surface, except that it is dotted with lakes. You will get a spectacular view of Khumbu Glacier and Lobuche glacier from Kongma La. You will descend down Khumbu glacier. You will stay overnight at Lobuche
Day 11 : Lobuche - Gorak Shep [5,170 m/ 16,961 ft.] - Everest Base Camp [5,364 m/ 17,594 ft.] / Kala Patthar (5545 m/ 18,192 ft.) - Gorak Shep: 8-9 hrs.
This morning you will head towards Gorak Shep last of the settlements in this trail. We follow the trail through a narrow gap between the glacial moraine and the mountain wall, past the pyramid sign post. We climb and follow the trail until we are surrounded by snowcapped mountains looming all around us. We have finally reached Gorak Shep. You can continue the trek to Kala Patthar today itself as the view from Kala Patthar is most magnificent in dusk than dawn. Words cannot describe the panorama of the mountains created as the orange sun sets in the horizon. Our guides will escort the trekkers who wish to view the sunset today itself rather than waiting for the sunrise. Overnight stay in Gorak Shep at a local lodge.
Day 12 : Gorak Shep - Kala Patthar / Everest Base Camp - Lobuche [4,940 m/ 16,207 ft.]: 8-9 hrs.
We start the day by catching the impressive sight of the first morning light shining on Mount Everest from Kala Patthar. Climb the peak of Kala Patthar which is marked by cairns and prayer flags and absorb the awe inspiring view of the Himalayan panorama. After the trip to Kala Pathar, hike to the base camp where you can see the mountaineers readying to conquer the summit of Mt. Everest. Everest Base Camp is situated on top of the Khumbu Glacier. After some moment of speculation we continue descending and retracing our trail back to Lobuche. Overnight stay at lobuche.
Day 13 : Lobuche - Dzonglha [4, 830 m/ 15,850 ft.]: 3-4 hrs.
Our trek today will be relatively shorter. From Lobuche we will follow a trail of the tea house trekkers to a settlement of Dzonglha. From Dzonglha you can have a spectacular view of the mountain range that seems very close. Stay overnight in a tea house.
Day 14 : Dzonglha - ChoLa [5,368 m/ 17,611 ft.] - Thangnak [4,680 m/ 15,350 ft.] - Gokyo [4800 m/15,580 ft.]: 7-8 hrs.
To reach Cho-la pass we climb up a narrow gorge and climb up the valley wall featuring a steep slope. Cho-la pass is marked by entangled prayer flags in the snowy landscape at the edge of the glacier. Observe the beauty of Cholatse (6,440 m) and Ama Dablam (6,812 m) in the southeast and Ngazumpa Glacier, Pharilapche (6,017 m) and Kyajo Ri (6,186m) in the west. We trek beneath the Cholatse past a path scattered with black boulders to grassy hillside village of Thaknak. We follow a trail that leads to a steep ascend as we approach Gokyo. Overnight at Gokyo.
Day 15 : Rest day in Gokyo – Gokyo Ri [5,357 m/ 17,575 ft.]: 3-4 hrs.
The village of Gokyo is in-between the wall of the moraine and a lake with the spectacular view of the Himalayas in the background. You can see the reflection of the mountain on the surface of the pristine lake. Every morning and evening the streets are filled with huge herds of yaks.
Since it is a rest day we have scheduled a short walk to Gokyo Ri (5,360 m) located on the side of a tiny lake- Dudh Pokhari. From here you are treated to the spectacular view of Everest. It will take you approximately 2 hours from Gokyo to reach the sacred lakes; these lakes are considered to be the source of the River Dudh Koshi and are considered auspicious in Hindu religion. During the Janai Purnima festivals pilgrims come to take a dip in the icy water of the lakes. You will descend back to Gokyo where you will retire for the day.
Day 16 : Gokyo- Renjo La [5,360 m/17,585 ft.] - Marlung [4,210 m/ 13,810 ft.]: 7-8 hrs.
Today we start the day early as we have a long trail ahead of us. You will traverse the familiar path you took to Gokyo Ri. As you approach nearer to the final pass of this trek- Renjo La the path gets steeper. From the pass you will get a spectacular view of zigzag mountain range of: Everest, Lhotse, Taboche and Cholatse glistening in the sun. The treacherous Ngozumpa glacier gives an illusion as if it is moving sluggishly on its natural path. After crossing the pass you will descend down the winding stone staircase, the vista is spotted by lakes and tiny ponds. You keep descending along the path with beautiful panorama of mountains, you will move pass Lungden village to reach our night stop at Marulung.
Day 17 : Marlung-Namche Bazzar: 5-6 hours
Today you will pass through the snaking trails with arid landscape. You will pass through the village of Taranga followed by Thame. Once in a while you will spot Himalayan Tahr and other species of birds and animals. After a long winding trail completing the trek through three beautiful passes of Mt Everest region we will reach Namche. You will be staying overnight at Namche
Day 18 : Namche Bazzar-Lukla: 6-8 hours
From Namche we depart to Lukla, signaling the final leg of our trek. Descend from Monjo through a forest of rhododendron, Magnolia and Fir, across suspension bridges over Dudh Koshi to Lukla. Overnight stay at Lukla.
Day 19 : Lukla - Kathmandu: 40 min flight
We spend some time buying souvenirs and capturing some memory of the mountains. We catch a flight to Kathmandu from Lukla. After landing in Kathmandu you are transferred to Kathmandu Guest House or a hotel of similar standard. You can also go for some sightseeing of Kathmandu, shopping for souvenirs or relax in the hotel after the strenuous trek. We will organize a Farewell dinner in your honor to celebrate the successful completion of your Trek to three passes of the Mt Everest region in the evening.
Day 20 : Final Departure
It’s now time to say fare-well to towering mountains as the time for departure is arriving soon. You can squeeze in some last minute sightseeing and shopping. A representative from Arihant Holidays.com will escort you to the airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight.
