Package Overview

The Palace on Wheels is a luxury tourist train. It was launched by the Indian Railways in association with Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation to promote tourism in Rajasthan. The Train Tour departs on Wednesday Afternoon from New Delhi & covers Pink City of Jaipur (Thurs); Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve & Chittaurgarh Fort (Fri); Lake City of Udaipur (Sat), Oasis in Desert-Jaisalmer (Sun); Fort town of Jodhpur (Mon);Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary & Agra TAJ MAHAL (Tue); -before returning back to New Delhi, next Wednesday morning.

Overnight you travel & stay onboard the train in richly furnished Private AC Sleeper Cabins(like 5 star hotel rooms) with proper beds & attached bathrooms.In each city visited you proceed for sightseeing tours with guides by air-conditioned buses. Daily bed tea,breakfast,lunch & dinner and bottled drinking water is included in package cost. There are two dining cars, one bar lounge & aryuvedic spa facility on the train. Wi fi facility with Sharing Dongle is available .Some meals are served in 5 star hotels/boutique restaurants during sightseeing tours.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Delhi Depart

  Reportby 4:30PM at Safdarjung Railway Station for traditional welcome & check-in formalities for Week in Wonderland Train Tour. Time free for photo-shoot with traditionally attired Palace On Wheels staff. Be escorted to your saloon cabins by Personall Attendantfor briefing on cabin facilities. At leisure Proceed to Bar Lounge for complimentary welcome drink.Train Departs at 6:30PM & Dinner served onboard;
• Day 2 : Jaipur Tour

  After onboard breakfast,disembark from train by 8 a.m. at Jaipur-Gandhinagar Railway Station with Royal WelcomebyDecoratedElephant& traditional musicians.First Proceed to Birla Mandir to view aarti (traditional hindu ceremony with oil lit lamps) folllowed by visit to late 19th century built colonial building of Albert Hall( now a museum) & nearby located 18th century built old Jaipur town(painted pink in color) housing City Palace,working Sun Dial ( JantarMantar) & Palace of Winds (Hawa Mahal)& time free to shop for semi precious stones. Later Drive to city outskirts to experience joy ride atop colourlfully decorated Elephants up steep ramparts of Amer Fort –followed by lunch at 1135 AD boutique restaurant ,located inside Fort Premises.Postlunch,discover charms of late 16th century built Amer Fort whose outer walls are built in Red Sandstone and inner Palace Complex built in White Sandstone with intricate work of ivory & sandalwood. Later drive back to your tour bus in jeeps from Fort complex,located atop a small hill On way back to Jaipur Town photo stop at 18th century built Jal Mahal ( Water Palace) &time free to shop for Textiles.Return to train stationed at Durgapura Railway Station by 7 p.m. & train soon departs.Dinner on board;

• Day 3 : Ranthambhore-Tiger Reserve & Chittorgarh-Hill Fort

  Early morning 615 a.m. at SawaiMadhopur Railway Station. Board 15 Seater. Canters for excursion to Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve- home to Tigers, Panthers, Sloth bears, Pythons, Marsh crocodiles & hundreds of deer & numerous birds.Return back to traain by 09:30AM &train depart. Breakfast & lunch onboard. NOTE: Since you drive through dirt tracks in Tiger Forest Reserve, it is suggested to carry sun glasses/scarves to protect dirt getting into your eyes/hair. If NOT interested to visit Tiger Reserve, on Friday early morning - you may pre-inform your saloon attendant/tour manager on Thursday Night & stay back in train At 4 p.m. disembark from train at Chittorgarh Railway Station for welcome by Decorated Horses-& proceed for excursion to UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hill Fort of Chittorgarh,spread over a huge plateau - with history dating back to 11th century& abandoned by its rulers in mid 16th Century- who shifted to Udaipur. Chittorgarh Fort is considered to be the largest fort of India. In the Evening, enjoy Sound & Light program in fort complex & later return to train for dinner by 745 p.m..Train stationary at Chittor Railway Station for the night & departs early morning next day;

  After onboard breakfast,disembark at Udaipur Railway Station by 9 a.m. for traditional welcome , After photo stop at Fatehsagar Lake,visit early 18th Century built Saheliyon Ki-Bari(Garden for Royal Maidens) & time free to shop for miniature paintinngs. Later visit City Palace complexbuilt over 400 years (by 76 generations of same dynasty ) since mid 16th century in fusion of Rajasthani& Mughal architecture & located atop a small hill overlooking Lake Pichola.Walk to the nearby located Crystal Gallery Museum ,followed by sumptuous meal in Durbar Hall of Fatehprakash Palace Hotel. Post lunch, enjoy boat ride around the world famous "Lake Palace Hotel" ,followed by High Tea at Jagmandir Palace (located on an island in the lake).Return to train by 330 p.m. & depart.   After on board breakfast ,dis embark at Jaisalmer Railway Station by 10 a.m. to welcome by decorated camels. First visit GadsisarLake ,a water conservation tank built in 1400 AD ,now surrounded by temples & shrines&Later enjoy heritage walk throough UNESCO World Heritage Site of Jaisalmer Fort,originally built in 12th Century & later re strengthened in 17th Century. Some local people still live inside the fort & there is a thriving bazaar.Also visit HAVELIS (former mansions of wealthy merchants) with decorated windows, archways, doorways & balconies carved out of wood. Time free to shop for traditional dresses .Return to train by 130 p.m. for lunch & brief rest. SUNDAY LATE AFTERNOON : JAISALMER: SAM SAND DUNES: At 4 p.m. proceed for excursion (appx 1 hr./one way) to Shifting Sam Sand Dunes in Thar Desert for Camel joy ride & sunset photo shoot opportunity .After Hi-Tea overlooking sand dunes drive back to train (reach by 7 p.m.) for brief rest & change. At 8 p.m. proceed for off board dinner at Gorbandh Palace Hotel with Cultural Program .Return to train by10:45 PM &train depart.;

• Day 6 : Jodhpur: Heart of Manwar

  After on board breakfast,disembark at Mandore Rly Station by 845 a.m to welcome by 21 piece Royal Brass Band& first visit early 16th Century built MehrangarhFort,atop a rocky hill which soars 125 Mts. above Old Jodhpur town(which gives indigo colorr hue ) The Fort complex it is approached by a series of gateways set at an angle so that enemy armies could not charge,with any success. Once past the Fort gates, you have access to breath taking Palatial Apartments (Mahal),overlooking wide courtyards.Inside the fort complex is a museum having wide & impressive collection of Royal dresses & Medieval weapons. Also visit nearby located 19th century built JaswantThada, a cluster of royal cenotaphs built in white marble.Later drive to museumlocated at Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel, displaying personal artifacts of H.H.   At 0615 proceed by bus from Bharatpur Railway station to Bird Sanctuary Main Gate & later enjoy cycle rickshaw ride in UNESCO world Heritage Site ofBharatpur Bird Sanctuarywhich houses more than 375 species of both local & migratory birds(from pllaces like Sri-Lanka, Europe, Siberia, China and Tibet).Return to train by 845 a.m. & train departs. Breakfast on board. If NOT interested to visit Bird sanctuary on Tuesday early morning - you may pre-inform your saloon attendant/ tour manager on Monday Night & stay back in train. TUESDAY ATERNOON: AGRA – CITY OF TAJ MAHAL: On arrival by 11 AMat AgraCanttRailway station first visit UNESCO World Heritage Site of Agra Fort,once seat of power of the mighty Mughal Empire over 150 years from mid 16th century. Proceed for sumptuous lunch at Rooftop restaurant at Clarkes Shiraz Hotel from where you also get glimpses of The Taj Mahal. Post lunch,visit the Taj Mahal,one of seven wonders of modern world& a flawless architectural wonder built in white marble. Complimentary photo shoot by Management of Palace On Wheels at Taj Mahal.
