Today you arrive at the Airport. Our representative shall meet you and transfer you to Hotel for check-in.
Delhi - It is a bustling metropolis, which successfully combines in its folds the ancient with modern. Its strategic location was the prime reason why successive dynasties chose it as their seat of power. It is believed that the city of Indraprastha, from the times of the Hindu epic Mahabharata, founded around 5000 BC, is also buried here. Numerous monuments were built over several centuries by different rulers like Qutub-ud-din Aibek, Alauddin Khilji, Tughlaks, Lodhis, Humayun & Shah Jahan. Later in first half of 20th century much of New Delhi was planned by Sir Edwin Lutyens, who laid out a grandiose central administrative area as a testament to British rule in India. The division in Old Delhi & New Delhi also marks the division in life styles.

Today we take a tour of Old Delhi, the 17th century "Walled City of Shah Jahanabad", built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and do the following :
Visit the great Jama Masjid - It is the principal mosque of Old Delhi. Built in the year 1656 AD by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, it is the largest & best known mosque in India. Walk down or take a rickshaw ride through Chandi Chowk, the old marketplace of Shah Jahanabad & now a picturesque bazaar, to reach Red Fort.
Visit Red Fort - This fort built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the year 1648. The fort remains an impressive testimony to Mughal grandeur, despite being attacked by the Persian Emperor Nadir Shah in the year 1739 and by the British soldiers during the Indian Mutiny (First War of Independence) in the year 1857.
Later we take a guided tour of New Delhi and do the following :
Visit Raj Ghat - It is a memorial to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, who was assassinated on 30th January 1948. It is a simple black marble platform that marks the spot of his cremation.
Drive past India Gate - It is a memorial built in the year 1931 to commemorate the Indian soldiers who died in the World War I & the Afghan Wars. The names of the soldiers who died in these wars are inscribed on its walls.
Drive past President's House - It is the official residence of the President of India, built in the year 1931. Until 1950 it was known as Viceroy's House & served as the residence of the Governor-General of British India.
Visit Humayun's Tomb - A memorial of Mughal Emperor Humayun, built in the year 1562. The complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its plan, based on the description of Islamic paradise gardens, is known to have inspired the Taj Mahal and many later Mughal tombs & the first example of this type of Mughal architecture in India.
Visit Qutub Minar - It was built in the year 1206 by Qutub-ud-din Aibek. It is the tallest (72 m) brick minaret in the world, an important example of Indo-Islamic Architecture. Qutub Minar & its monuments are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Darjeeling - It a town in the Indian state of West Bengal, is internationally renowned for its tea industry and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the headquarters of Darjeeling district, located in the Mahabharat Range or Lesser Himalaya at an average elevation of 6,710 ft (2,050 m). Development of the town dates back to the mid-19th century, when the British set up a sanatorium and a military depot. Subsequently, extensive tea plantations were established in the region and tea growers developed distinctive hybrids of black tea and created new fermenting techniques. The resultant distinctive Darjeeling tea is internationally recognised and ranks among the most popular of the black teas.

Early Morning go to Tiger Hill for view of Sunrise on the Mt. Kanchendzonga.
Visit Ghoom Monastry - Situated at an altitude of 8,000 feet Goom Monastry was Built in 1875 by Lama Sherab Gyatso, one of the chief features of the monastery is the 15 ft tall statue of the Maitreya Buddha (Coming Buddha), resplendent in gold polish and embedded with precious stones. Thangkas adorn the ancient walls and you will find a rare collection of books on Buddhism as well as Tibetan translations of great Sanskrit works here. Amongst the Buddhist texts available are the Kangyur, the Buddhist Tibetan canon running into 108 volumes. With its high altitude and misty surroundings, the interiors of the monastery often seem dark and ancient.
Visit Batasia Loop war memorial - The Batasia Loop was created to lower the gradient of ascent of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway in Darjeeling district of West Bengal, India. At this point, the tracks spiral around over itself through a tunnel and over a hilltop. t was commissioned in 1919. It is where the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway takes a 360 degree turn to accomplish a steep ascent.
Visit The Mall and local market - The Mall is the town's main shopping promenade and it leads to the heart of, called Chowrasta. A wide promenade lined with shops and restaurants.
Visit Padmaja N Zoological Garden - A few kilometres from Chowrasta. It is the only centre in that breeds the Tibetan wolf in captivity. The zoo also has breeding programmes for other endangered, alpine species, such as Red Panda, Snow Leopard, Goral (mountain goat) and the Siberian Tiger.
Visit Himalayan Mountaineering Institute - It was set up in 1954 after the successful ascent of Mt. Everest by Edmund Hillary and local hero Tenzing Norgay, who was also the institute's first director. The institute holds subsidised basic and advanced courses in mountaineering. Its two museums the and the are worth a visit.

Day 5 : Darjeeling - Gangtok (100 km/4 hr)
Today we drive to Gangtok and check-in the Hotel.
Gangtok - It is a bustling, friendly hill station, and the capital of the Himalayan state of Sikkim. The name Gangtok is derived from the Tibetan word for 'hillside', and the city currently has a population of around 80,000 - a mixture of indigenous Sikkimese and people of Nepalese and Tibetan ancestry. Gangtok rose to prominence as a popular Buddhist pilgrimage site after the construction of the Enchey Monastery in 1840. In 1894, the ruling Sikkimese Chogyal, Thutob Namgyal, transferred the capital to Gangtok. In the early 20th century, Gangtok became a major stopover on the trade route between Lhasa in Tibet and cities such as Kolkata (then Calcutta) in British India. After India won its independence from Britain in 1947, Sikkim chose to remain an independent monarchy, with Gangtok as its capital. In 1975,after the integration with the union of India, Gangtok was made India's twenty-second state capital. Gangtok is a centre of Tibetan Buddhist culture and learning, with the presence of several monasteries, religious educational institutions, and centres for Tibetology.

Visit Chortan Stupa - Do Drul Chorten is the biggest and the most important stupa in Sikkim. It is located near Gangtok. It is the most important tourist spot in the East Sikkim. This has been built in the year 1945 under the supervision of late Truslshi Rimpoche. There are about 108 prayer wheels (Mani-Lhakor) in this chorten. There are some mantras have been engraved in these prayer wheels; by turning these prayer wheels, the devotees can read and chant these mantras. The renowned chorten has a gold-plated steeple. Devotees and pilgrims from all parts of the state and from other states come to devote their homage at this sacred stupa.
Visit Institute of Tibetology (closed on Sunday) - The foundation stone of Namgyal Institute of Tibetology was reposed by the fourteenth Dalai Lama on 10 February 1957. The late Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru has declared it open on 1 October 1958. It is a hoarded wealth of huge collection of rare Lepcha, Sanskrit and Tibetan manuscripts, ancient statues, and Thankas, which is colourful tapestries exploited in the Buddhist liturgy. Besides an appealing museum, the institute consists of more than 200 Buddhist icons and many other treasured objects of art.Presently, the institute is the famous worldwide centre for study of Buddhist philosophy and religion. The construction work of the institute is a noble memorial and an excellent example of the architecture of Sikkim.
Visit Institute of Handicraft and handlooms (closed on sunday) - It was founded in 1957, as Handloom and Handicrafts Centre of Sikkim. This is situated 500 metres from the central market of Gangtok. This organization has been established to conserve and pass around the art and craft skills of the artificers of Gangtok. In this centre, the visitors can see blankets, elegant hand-carven folding tables (Choktse), hand-loomed carpets with conventional themes, hand-painted masques, shawls, traditional paintings, wooden dolls and many other handicrafts.
Visit Rumtek Monastry Dharma Chakra Centre - Rumtek Monastery is also known as Dharma Chakra Centre. From its location on a hilltop, Rumtek Monastery is facing the city Gangtok. The monastery is located 24 km away from Gangtok, in the east Sikkim. This monastery is the largest monastery in Sikkim, which is dwelling to the monk community. This is the place where the monks do the sacred rites in addition to the practices of the Karma Kagyu lineage. The monastery is situated at an altitude of 5,800 ft. Rumtek Monastery consists of numerous sacred things; one of the most glorious things is the Golden Stupa that holds the treasured relics of His Holiness the Sixteenth Karmapa.

Day 7 : Gangtok - Kalimpong (55 km/2 hr)
Today we drive to Kalimpong and check-in the hotel.
Kalimpong - It is a quiet and picturesque hill station of on the banks of the River Teesta. It is located at the foothills of the Himalayas at an altitude of 1250 m, adjacent to the state of and very close to and Gangtok. The small town is inhabited by Nepali, Bhutanese, Bengali and Tibetan population which can be witnessed in its fusion culture and heritage. Surrounded by immense natural beauty, Kalimpong is dotted with tea and orchid gardens, monasteries and colonial cottages.

Visit Durpin Dhara & Flower & Orchid Nurseries - It is the highest point in Kalimpong famous for breathtaking views of the peak, the town and surrounding tea estates. The hill is accessible by car. Brindaban Garden Nursery, Ganesh Mani Pradhan Nursery, L.B. Pradhan Nursery, Pinewood Nursery and Standard Nursery are famous for the export of exotic flowers such as roses, gerbera, dahlias, gladiolas and orchids. Kalimpong also hosts an annual flower festival in October.
Visit Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brong Monastery - Also known as Durpin Monastery. The importance of this monastery lies with the sacred Kunguyar kept here. It contains all 108 volumes carried by Dalai Lama in his exile.
This Gompa is a specimen of Buddhist architectural style with spectacular painting on the walls. This Gompa encloses a main prayer hall and an exceptional upstairs appear in a three dimensional view. Fascinating views of surrounding landscapes and the distant Himalyan ranges make here as an enchanting picnic spot. The fragrance of peace and tranquility flows through the ambience of this Gompa all though the days.
Visit Kalimpong Market - Shopping in Kalimpong can be a delighting experience. The otherwise peaceful and quiet town has a bustling marketplace at Main Road and 10th Mile famous for handicrafts, Bhutanese pastel paintings, embroidered bags, Kalimpong tapestry bags, purses, copperware, scrolls and paintings.

Visit Lord Shiva Lingaraja Temple - It is the 11th century temple of Bhubaneshwar has been described as "truest fusion of dream & reality." A rare masterpiece, the temple has been rated one of the finest examples of purely Hindu temple. Every inch of the 55 m-high Lingaraja temple is covered with elaborate carvings. Sculpture & architecture fused elegantly to create a perfect harmony.
Visit Mukteshwara Temple - It is a 7th-8th century AD is one of the most ornate temples in Bhubaneshwar. The intricate carvings of the deities stand testimony to the influence of Hindu, Buddha & Jain style of architecture. The carvings on the roof are specially striking.
Visit Parashurameshwara Temple - It is a small but richly decorated shrine of Shiva that was built in the 7th century. It is one of the best examples of the Orissa style of temple architecture.

Visit Dhauli - where Mauryan Emperor Ashoka the Great renounced bloody warfare & embraced the teachings of Buddha after victory over kingdom of Kalinga. Here we visit Peace Pagoda known as Shanti Stupa built in early 1970 by Japanese. Also visit two ancient rock edicts, today eclipsed by the presence of the Pagoda. Dating from 260 BC they outline Ashoka's detailed instructions to his administrators to rule with gentleness & fairness.
Visit Konark temple - Chariot of the Sun God, built by King Langula Narasimha Deva in the 13 century AD in the Golden era of Orissan art. This crowning piece of Orissan architecture & sculpture is sheer poetry on stone.
We continue our drive to Puri and check-in the Hotel.

Visit Jagannath Temple - This temple is dedicated to Krishna (Vishnu) in his deity form of Jagannath, meaning Lord of the Universe (Jag translates to Universe, nath means Lord). The present temple structure was built by Ananta Brama Chodaganga Dev in middle of 12th century AD (1078-1147 AD). It is a curvilinear temple which rises to 214 feet. Crowning the very top is the 'srichakra' (an eight spoked wheel) of Vishnu. The most important festival is the Rath Yatra or the Chariot festival once a year.

En-route visit Chilka Lake - It is Famous for its bird sanctuary. It is Asia's largest inland salt-water lagoon. Studded with small islands including the picturesquely named Honeymoon Island & Breakfast Island, the lake is separated by a sandy ridge. It is dotted with small islands & has an impressive array of bird life both native & migrant. White bellied sea eagles, graylag geese, purple moorhen, jacana, herons & flamingos are most popular bird species found. Other than the birds, its shores are home to black buck, spotted deer, golden jackals & the lake is rich in aquatic life, its water harbor various species of fish including the famous Chilka dolphin. Prawn, crab & mackerel fishing is an important source of livelihood for the locales.
