From beautiful vistas to exploring kasbahs, our Fes to Marrakech tour takes you through Morocco’s highlights.
Day 1 : Fes to Erfoud
Starting at 8am in Fes, we’ll pick you up from your hotel and begin our journey through the highlights of Morocco. We’ll drive past the small town of Azrou, where you’ll see Barbary apes playing and getting up to mischief, before we continue along the road.
Our next stop, Midelt, sits at the bottom of the Ayachi Mountain. Known for the abundance of beautiful apple trees surrounding it, Midelt is a stunning town with incredible views, beautiful Moroccan and French architecture, and is a commercial hub in the area. We’ll stop here briefly to take in the atmosphere before continuing through the Tizi-n-Talremt pass in the Ziz Valley.
From here, we’ll reach Er Rachidia and then Erfoud, famous for its date festival in October (if you’d like to visit the date festival, please call us for more information). After exploring Erfoud, we’ll head towards a traditional hotel (or “riad”) and spend the night, resting up for the next part of our journey.
Day 2 : Erfoud to Merzouga
After breakfast, we’ll get back in the 4×4 and head towards the town of Rissani to explore the souks there. You’ll find a diverse range of items; beautiful silk clothing made by hand, delicately carved wooden crafts, and other unusual souvenirs to take back home. Once you’ve seen all you want to see, we’ll head back to the 4×4 and begin travelling towards the Berber camps in Erg Chebbi where we’ll spend the rest of the day.
The Berbers are extremely welcoming and friendly. They’ll not only cook you a delicious, traditional Moroccan lunch, but they’ll also play (and teach you how to play) the Doumbek — a traditional North African drum.
We’ll then take a camel ride over the Erg Chebbi sands towards the campsite. You’ll be able to watch the sunset from the top of the golden dunes, eat a flawless nomadic dinner made by the Berber cooks, and enjoy the rest of the evening trying out your new Doumbek skills under a crystal clear sky. We’ll then head to our personal tents and get some rest.
Day 3 : Merzouga to Dades Gorges
One of best parts of this tour is watching the early morning sunrise across the desert. Despite the early start, this is one of the most impressive sights on the entire tour, with a burst of colour filling the sky and covering the dunes. After a breakfast, we’ll have a bit of time to explore the dunes, talk to the nomads, and relax before setting off towards Tinghir and the Todgha gorge.
Tinghir is a small city known for its nearby oasis and is set amongst the beautiful Little Atlas and High Atlas mountains. We’ll stop here to explore the streets, the river, and the gardens, as well as trekking up towards the nearby hills to get some incredible views of the landscape.
Continuing on up the Dades Valley, we’ll stop at a nearby hotel, where we’ll spend the rest of the night relaxing.
Day 4 : Dades to Ouarzazate
After having breakfast, we’ll go for another walk to explore more of the Dades Gorges before continuing towards Ouarzazate. Along the way, we’ll stop off at Boutghrar where we’ll visit Berbers, try a glass of mint tea with them and learn more about their culture.
From here, we continue through the famous Valley of the Roses — famous for the yearly rose festival in May (if you’d like to visit this festival, please contact us for more information). This festival is one of the most spectacular on the planet, with some incredible colours, music, and other celebrations to take part in.
If there’s time, we’ll make our way through the numerous rose fields, taking in the aroma of and exploring the surrounding landscape. We’ll then head back to the 4×4 and continue on our way towards Ouarzazate, where you’ll spend the night in a nearby hotel.
Day 5 : Ouarzazate to Marrakech
We’ll have breakfast at the hotel before heading out on the last part of our journey towards Marrakech. The route takes us past the famous UNESCO world heritage kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, where we’ll stop and explore one of North Africa’s most stunning historical sites.
Ait Benhaddou is a perfect example of Moroccan architecture, culture, and history, with incredible buildings still standing after hundreds of years. In fact, the Kasbah is well-known for its use as a film set in a number of Hollywood movies, including Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, Prince of Persia, and The Mummy.
We’ll wander through the streets, have a look at the old walls, take in the stunning architecture, and make our way towards the top of the kasbah to look at the surrounding views of the landscape.
After lunch, we’ll then continue our journey towards Marrakech, going towards Telouet: a small but beautiful kasbah set between two mountains. Telouet’s kasbah is a fantastic place to visit and, although the outside may look ruined, the inside of the kasbah is still decorated with the original mosaics, wooden statues, and other stunning decorations.
Telouet also offers some of the most incredible views of the mountains, nearby valleys, and surrounding gardens.
We’ll then set off on the final step of our adventure, heading towards Marrakech in the afternoon where we’ll drop you off at your hotel, say our goodbyes, and leave you to continue your holiday.
