Bhutan has beautiful snow fed rivers which have had little or no fishing pressure for countless years. Only the Royal Family has permission to take fish from the river and the local population is, in theory, not allowed to take any fish at all.
Most rivers are teeming with brown trout, snow trout and the hard fighting Mahneer.Fly fishing, on a catch and release only basis, is now allowed in selected areas of Bhutan and at certain designated times of year and only for bona-fide tourist visitors holding the correct permits.
Currently fishing is permitted in these regions:
Paro Valley - Western Bhutan
Thimphu Valley - Western Bhutan
Trongsa Region - Central Bhutan
Bumthang Valleys - Central Bhutan
Lhuentse Region - North East Bhutan
And on these dates
Fishing is permitted January-February inclusive and June-September inclusive.
Fishing is also not permitted on selected ‘Auspicious Days’ as per the Bhutanese Lunar Calendar.
Chile, Argentina
