Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival New Delhi International Airport.

    You will be met from your flight to Delhi International Airport by Summit Safari’s representative, and he will accompany you to your hotel in Delhi. Rest of the day is free at leisure to relax after the flight.

  • Day 2 : Fly from Delhi to Amritsar.

    Today after breakfast, as per your flight schedule you will be transfer to New Delhi airport to board your flight to Amritsar (1 hrs) in Punjab province. You will be met from your flight to Amritsar airport by Summit Safari’s representative / your guide and driver, and they will accompany you to your hotel in Amritsar. After having your lunch and some rest around (03:00 P.M) we will be driving you to Indo-Pak Border to watch the Retreat Ceremony-30 KM on the road to Lahore is India-Pakistan Border (Wagha Boarder). A visit to the border is an interesting experience especially at Sunset, when the retreat ceremony takes place with the Border Security Force on the Indian Side and the Sutlej Rangers on the Pakistan side putting up a well coordinated and spectacular display. The sound from the Bugles blown together from both sides paints past on the canvas when India and Pakistan were one, simultaneously Flags of the two nations are ceremoniously retrieved and lights are switched on marking the end of the day. Return to hotel in the evening, after dinner we will take you to visit the Golden Temple (the biggest and holiest Sikh shrine in the world – gilded with gold, for the night ceremony. Return back to your hotel.

  • Day 3 : Amritsar to Dharamshala. (5-6 hrs)

    After breakfast we will take you again to visit the Golden temple at Amritsar (the biggest and holiest Sikh shrine in the world – gilded with gold.), as it has its own different charm to see this gold gilded shrine at night time and at day time, if interested we will also visit Jallianwala Bagh-the historic site where hundreds of innocent Indian men, women and children were massacred by British General Michael Dyer on April 13, 1919. A memorial and Garden have been created here as a national monument. Later on around 1030 A.M, we will continue our drive to Dharamshala (5- 6 hrs). Check in at your hotel in Mcleodganj. Originally home of the semi-nomadic Gaddi tribe, Mcleodganj is today the residence of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. Evening is free to walk around the local interesting market of Mcleodganj.

  • Day 4 : Dharamshala / Mcleodganj (local sight seeing around Dharamshala)

    After breakfast at your hotel, we will leave for a sightseeing tour including, the Dalai Lama’s Buddhist monastery, St.John church , situated in the wilderness- where Lord Elgin is buried ( 1863), the Norbulingka Institute at a place known as Sidhbari, an institute working for the preservation of traditional Tibetan arts and crafts. At present, it houses over 300 teachers, students and workers. The arts and crafts include Thanka painting, tailoring, metal sculpture and wood crafts. There is a Losel doll museum a monastery and a popular restaurant inside the Norbulingka institute where you can have your lunch. After lunch return back to Mcleodganj and rest of the day free at leisure or Today we have a flexibility to offer you a hike to the nearby mountains and villages ( 3 hrs), and could be done as per your interest . These walks present a very panoramic view of the Dhauladhar Himalayan Ranges and the villages around the valley. Second night at the same hotel in Mcleodganj.

  • Day 5 : Mcleodganj to Basdi village home stay.

    After breakfast we will leave for the Kangra valley home stay experience. We will drive you through Masroor village where we will visit its monolithic rock-cut temples. There are 15 rock-cut temples in Indo-Aryan style and are richly carved. It is a unique monolithic structure in the sub-Himalayan region and is a protected monument by the archaeological department of India. The view of snow clad Dhauladhar is amazing from the temple premises. The temples were built most likely in the second half of 8th century .In the late afternoon we will arrive in a small Himalayan village. From today we will spend around 04 nights with a local Indian family in Basil village in a local Indian house, with your hosts who are incredibly friendly and hospitable family who live in the Foothills Himalayas, which in itself is a very unique Indian experience. On arrival you will be offered with tea/ coffee, some snacks, you will get some time to fresh up yourself before we take you for a village walk. Overnight in a neat, clean and comfortable home stay.

  • Day 6 : A local Village tour.

    After breakfast we will drive you to visit another nearby village known as Bankhandi (1 hrs), where we will meet the different local communities and see how they do coir making, bamboo basket making, local musicians etc. We will have our lunch in the village with a local family and later on we will walk around this village which will provide us a chance to meet the local people and to know about their life and traditions. We will have lunch with a local family in this village and by evening we will leave this village and will drive you back to Basdi village. On our way back if you will be interested we will visit a Hindu temple- Jawalaji temple (which is known as the temple of flames- due the natural fire flames those are burning out of the temple walls at many places). Today our women travellers have a choice of having Heena design on their palms, which will be done complimentary by the village girls. Second night in the same neat and clean comfortable home stay.

  • Day 7 : Home Stay to Garli -Pragpur – A visit to heritage villages.

    Today we will drive you to the heritage village of Garli – Pragpur, where we will take a walking tour of the local market and village houses and will meet and speak to the local people to know more about their lifestyle, culture and traditions. Pragpur has been notified as a Heritage Village by the state government. These small heritage villages seems to hold the kernel of much of Kangra’s rural beauty and are famous for its heritage mansions (country manor) designed in Indo-European tradition. Later on return back to home stay in Basdi village. Today the guest will have a choice to dress up in the local traditional dress, both for men and women. Third night in the same home stay in the village.

  • Day 8 : Walk around Basdi village.

    After a leisurely breakfast we will walk around the Basdi village and will visit a local school, where we will meet the local children’s and the teachers. We will also attend the school prayers which are held regularly during the morning time. We will take fresh seasonable fruits with us to distribute among the school children’s.( Summit Safari will arrange for the seasonable fruits). Today we will spend our time relaxing and walking around the village. Rest of the day free at leisure or you have a choice to join a cooking class and to learn make a mint and coriander sauce with some other famous Indian cuisines, as per your choice. Forth night in the same village home stay.

  • Day 9 : Basdi Village Home Stay to Rewalser.

    Today after breakfast we will drive you to Rewalser. Check in to your hotel and later we will take a walk along the Rewalser Lake associated with Padmasambhava (a great Buddhist scholar, whose teachings spread to Tibet and Bhutan from India). Later on we will take you to visit the cave monasteries in the Rewalser hills. Rewalser is famous for Hindu temple, Buddhist monasteries and Sikh Shrines all around the lake. Overnight in hotel In Rewalser.

  • Day 10 : Rewalser to Shimla.

    After Breakfast we will drive you to Shimla (4-5 hrs), the former summer Capital of India during the British raj. Now a day’s Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh state. Enroute we will make a couple of comfort and photo breaks. Today enroute you have a choice to have lunch with a local family and to visit another village in Bilaspur valley. Reach Shimla by late afternoon and check in at your luxury hotel, evening free at leisure.

  • Day 11 : Sightseeing in Shimla town.

    After breakfast at your hotel your guide will take you for a sightseeing tour of Shimla town. The colonial heritage is preserved in the town’s architecture. We will visit the famous monkey temple (dedicated to Lord Hanuman) on the top of Jakhoo hills, Christ Church of Shimla, the Gaiety Theatre, the Mall Road with its scandal point, and the famous Viceregal Lodge where agreements for the partition of India and Pakistan were worked out. Shimla is ideal for walks, and life revolves around the busy Mall in the centre of town, we will spend easy day taking a leisurely walk around the town where no cars are allowed to drive. Evening free to explore of your own. Second night in the same hotel at Shimla.

  • Day 12 : Shimla local sightseeing / Day hike.

    After breakfast at your hotel we will drive you to Naldera, beloved of Viceroy Lord Curzon (17 kms. from Shimla.) for a round of golf / horse riding or for a pretty walk. There will be free time to explore on your own and at your own pace. Shimla is ideal for walks. If you will be interested we will be taking you on a very pretty walk “Sipur village and nature walk”. We will return back to the hotel in the evening. Third night at the same hotel in Shimla. Even a drive to Fagu valley is worth to take from where you see the terrace fields with apple orchard, beautiful views of the Greater Himalayas and Yak the animals from The Himalayas on the way to Fagu valley. You will have flexibility to choose among these options as per your interest.

  • Day 13 : Shimla to Delhi.

    After breakfast in the morning, you will be transfer to Shimla railway station to board the UNESCO World heritage, Kalka Shimla Mountain Railways of India, locally know as toy train- from Shimla (10:20 A.M.) to Solan (01: 20 P.M) .This train travels very slowly up to Kalka (4:20 P.M) and you see wonderful views en route as the train goes down from the mountains to the plains. Later on we will get down from the train at Solan railway station (3 hrs of train ride) and from there we will drive you to Kalka by road from where we will board the express Kalka Shatabdi train to New Delhi, from Kalka ( 5:45 P.M) to New Delhi ( 9:50 P.M). Enroute to Kalka we will stop for the lunch break at Barog. On arrival at New Delhi you will be met by your driver and we will drive you to your hotel in Delhi.

  • Day 14 : Fly Back to your Country.

    Today after breakfast we will take you for the sightseeing tour of Delhi to view some of the famous sights of the city with a guide. We will take a walking tour of the Old Delhi covering the Chandani Chowk, historic Red Fort, and the busy market. If interested we will arrange for a bicycle rickshaw ride in old Delhi or a Tuk- Tuk ( Three wheeler ) ride in New Delhi for you. We will also visit Gandhi Smriti, also known as the Birla house where –Mahatma Gandhi had lived the last 144 days of his life from 09 September 1947 to 30 January 1948 when he was assassinated in 78th year of life at Birla House Prayer Grounds by Nathuram Godse. Return back to the hotel after lunch and rest of the time is free at leisure. Tonight after dinner you will be assisted and will be transfer to the international airport at New Delhi to board your return flight.

    This is where the tour ends. However, if you wish to stay longer in Delhi or want to take extension tour, we can make arrangements for you to be transferred to the airport at a later time
