Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Nairobi to Samburu / Shaba / Buffalo Springs Game Reserves

  You will be picked up from Nairobi at 0700hrs after a short briefing by Abana Safaris representative. Afterwards you will board your vans and head north via the shoulder of Africa’s second largest mountain, Mount Kenya, making your way to the Samburu Game Reserve. You will arrive in time for lunch. After lunch, you will check in to your camp rest and freshen-up for a while as you get ready to explore the wilderness of Samburu. Proceed for an early-evening game drive. Animals expected to be seen here include the elephants, lions, leopards and the Samburu Big Five. Dinner and overnight

• Day 2 : Samburu Game Reserve

  This day is spent viewing game in Samburu Reserve, exploring its open grasslands and diverse landscapes in search of the variety of wildlife found here.
  
  Samburu hosts beautiful forests, springs and rivers, offering stunning scenery. The game park is part of a lava plain that includes varied habitats, from thorn scrub, red dirt and dried river beds, to broken volcanic rock, steep hills and rocky outcrops.
  
  This region is home to Samburu Special Five. The uncommon Gravy’s zebra with huge fury ears, gerenuk antelope standing on hind legs to feed, Somali ostriches with distinct blue legs, the Reticulated giraffe and the shy Beisa Oryx. Elephant and crocodiles are guaranteed sightings. The reserve is also excellent for bird watching, with over 365 species, including varieties of weaverbirds and the martial eagle. Leopard sightings are also a special feature here. The Samburu area is also home to interesting Samburu people with a rich heritage just like their cousins Maasai’s. This gives one a colorful cultural experience. Dinner and overnight

• Day 3 : Samburu Game Reserve

• Day 4 : Samburu Game Reserve to Mt Kenya

  After your breakfast, proceed for check out. Have your last game drive as you bid this part of northern Kenya goodbye as you head downwards to the slope of mt. Kenya. Arrive at the club, in time for lunch check in and relax. The club is set in pristine grounds at the foot of the majestic snow capped Mount Kenya was founded in 1959 by William Holden and has been honored by visits from many celebrities including John Travolta. Time at the club is graced by long lunches and lazy log fire dinners, for the more energetic there is a heated swimming pool, tennis courts, croquet, a golf course, trout fishing, nature / bird walks, horseback riding and an early morning ride on an ox wagon through the club grounds.
  
  There is also an animal orphanage within the club grounds which has cheetahs, the llama, ostriches, zebroids (mixed breed of zebra and a horse), porcupines, baby antelopes, the white tailed Colobus monkeys and a tortoise rumored to be over 100 years old. Dinner and overnight

• Day 5 : Mount Kenya Safari Club

  After breakfast you will be at leisure at the club, with an optional half day excursion to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Visit the Sweetwater’s Chimpanzee Sanctuary which is the only place in Kenya where you can see the Chimpanzees in the wild. It opened in 1993. Lonrho Africa, the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) and the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) established a facility to receive and provide sanctuary and housing to an original group of 3 chimps orphaned at a young age by the bush-meat trade, now it has grown and harbors approximately 40 chimpanzees. The sole objective of the sanctuary is to provide a safe, secure and permanent refuge for theses chimpanzees.
  
  Sweetwater game reserve is also a Rhino sanctuary and was set up in 1989 and covered an area of 24,000 acres. Dinner and overnight

  After breakfast you will say your good bye as you depart and drive back to Nairobi with lunch en-route.
