Although the trek is possible throughout the winter, the best time for the Gangtey Trek is between March-May and September-November. It is a short and relatively easy trek with several beautiful villages and monasteries en route. The trail winds through forests of juniper, bamboo, magnolia and rhododendrons and over small streams of cold, clear mountain water. This trek is an excellent choice for those visitors not accustomed to trekking in the mountains as it offers beautiful views of the country with mostly gentle, forested slopes.Both International & domestic Flight fares.

Day 1 : Arrive in Paro - Thimphu
Altitude: Altitude 2350m.
Distance: 55km.
Estimated time: 1 ½ hours.
You will be welcome by our representatives at International airport. After completing customs & Immigration formalities.
We will drive to capital city Thimphu and check in hotel. After lunch in hotel, Visit National Memorial Chorten ,built in 1974 in the memory of Third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Takin Reserve, the National Animal of Bhutan, (budorcas taxicolor/ Drong Gyemtse’.) is found and radio tower, it offers splendid views of the city from a hilltop festooned with prayer flags.
In the evening visit Tashichhodzong, the “fortress of the glorious religion", built in 1641. It houses His Majesty’s Secretariat and the Central Monk Body. Across the river you can see the National Assembly building. Overnight hotel in Thimphu.
Day 2 : Thimphu - Phojikha
Altitude:2993m
Distance: 145 km.
Estimated time: 6 hours.
Start journey and stop at Dochula ( altitude 3088m), where you can enjoy the viewpoint of Eastern Himalayas. The 108 chortens was built by the present Queen Mother of Bhutan Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over Indian militants and to liberate the souls of the soldiers lost.
Afternoon visit, Gangtey Gompa. The oldest and largest Nyingma Bhuddist centre, established in 1613 by the first Peling Gyalsé Rinpoche. Explore Phobjikha valley to view magnificent bird,The Black Neck Crane”.These endangered birds fly south from Siberia.Visit to the rural community in Phobjikha. Overnight hotel in Phobjikha.
Day 3 : Pbojikha - Zasa ( From third day on, Trek begin
Campsite: Altitude 3,130m.
Distance: 15 km.
Estimated time: 6-7 hours.
Trek road type: 610m ascent & 410m descent.
The Trek starts near the village of Tabiting.The trail winds through meadows and fields and the climb takes you through a mixed forest of juniper, bamboo, magnolia and rhododendron to Tsele La (3430m). From here you descent into the juge Khangkha Chhu valley. Further on, the path leads to Gogona, well known for its “Gogona Cheese” production. The campsite is a bit further besides in a small stream in a yak pasture called Zasa.
Day 4 : Zasa - Chorten Karpo
Campsite: Altitude 3,330m.
Distance: 16 km.
Estimated time: 5-7 hours.
Trek road type: 450m ascent & 860m descent.
A gentle climb leads to Shobe La pass (3,480m). The descent from the pass leads to a wide valley, surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges. Below the route one can see Khothokha, a village with about 60 houses. You finally reach the campsite by climbing gently up till you see four chortens in a forest of blue pine.
Day 5 : Chorten Karpo - Tikke Zampa ( Trek End) –Punakha
Distance: 12km.
Estimated time: 4 -5 hours.
Trek road type: 120m ascent & 1,340m descent.
From the camp you climb till you reach a forest road. From here it’s an easy walk up to a little ridge at 2,800m. The walk down back into the valley leads you through Bhutan’s best bird watching areas. The trek end at Tikke Zampa.
From Tikke Zampa , Punakha is half hour drive by vehicle and en route visit majestic Wangdue Dzong and interesting local market .
Afternoon visit Punakha Dzong,the ancient capital of Bhutan and now winter residence of Chief Abbot (Je Khempa), built in the year 1637.
Day 6 : Punakha - Thimphu
Distance: 71 km.
Estimated time: 2 hours.
Moring short expedition Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten (stupa), 3 hours round trip: One of the only such chorten in the world, constructed in 1992.On the way Afternoon en route visit Chhimi Lhakhang atop a small hilllock, built in 1499 by the 14th Drukpa Kinley when he visited this valley. Temple renowned for its fertility blessings. Overnight hotel in Thimphu.
Day 7 : Thimphu tour
Visit will from the National Library, established in 1960 where an ancient texts and manuscripts are preserved. National Institute of Zorig Chusum, (commonly known as the Painting School), where a six-year training course is given in the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan Institute of Traditional Medicines Services, where the medicinal herbs abundant in the kingdom are compounded and dispensed.Textile Museum, which provides an excellent introduction about the techniques, style of various textiles woven in the country along with exhibition of the national dress ‘gho’ for men and ‘kira’ for women. Handicraft Emporium, which offers a wide range of colourful, hand woven textiles and other products .
Afternoon visit Semtokha Dzong 6 km away from town, built in 1627 and it is the oldest Dzong in the country and now houses the School for Buddhist Studies. Centenary Farmer Vegetable Market, colorful market full of local produce and handicrafts, if your visit falls Friday to Sunday. Overnight hotel in Thimphu.
Day 8 : Thimphu - Paro
Moring drive to Paro, visit Drukyel Dzong, built in 1647 by Zhabdung Ngawang Namgyal to commemorate his victory over the Tibetan invaders. The glory of Drukgyel Dzong remained even when its was destroyed by fire in 1951. On a clear day, one can see the commanding view of Mount. Chomolhari from the village, below the Dzong.Kyichu Lhakhang: One of the oldest Temple in Bhutan built in 7th Century by Tibetan King, Songtsen Gampo and the second temple built in 1968, by H.M. Ashi Kesang, the Queen Mother of Bhutan.
Afternoon visit Ta Dzong ( watchtower), built to defend Rinpung Dzong during inter-valley wars of the 17th century, Ta Dzong was inaugurated as Bhutan’s National Museum in 1968.Paro Dzong , is also known as Rinpung Dzong built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal , the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan, the Dzong houses the monastic body , district administrative and judge of Paro district.The approach to the Dzong is through a traditional covered bridge called Nemi Zam. A walk through the bridge, over a stone inlaid path, offers a good view of the architectural wonder of the Dzong as well as life around it. Overnight hotel in Paro.
Day 9 : Short trek to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger Nest).
To get starting point, you will have to drive 11km to reach the parking lot and for the trip may take 5 hours. Somewhat arduous adventure for the day, ascending the 915m cliff to reached the most spectacularly located temple in all Bhutan. It perched atop on a cliff at 2950m, built in 1692 by Gyalse Tenzin Rabgye. Though the climb up through the pine forest is steep, the journey is most worthwhile on account of the super views.
Afternoon short travel to Chele La, Chele La pass (altitude 3720m), it is 40 km from Paro which may take 1 hour drive. A favorite place for many visitors, it is the highest motorable pass in the country. For naturalists, the ridge offers the gardens of Himalayan flowers, plants and of special pleasant species. From the top you can sport the Kela Dechen Yangtse, a nunnery perched on the opposite hillside with prayer flags lining. Overnight hotel in Paro.
Day 10 : International departure from Paro
