About Sikkim: Small but beautiful, Sikkim is situated in the eastern Himalayas. The state is spreader below the Mount Khanchendzonga (8534 mts), the third highest mountain in the world, and revered by the Sikkim’s as their protective deity. With an area of 7,300 sqkms and measuring approx. 114 kms from the north to south and 64 kms from east to west, the elevation ranges from 300 meters to over 8540 meters above sea level. Amidst the grandeur of the mountain peaks, lush valleys, fast flowing rivers, hills, Sikkim offers her visitors a rare and singular experience. Within a matter of hours one can move from the sub-tropical heat of the lower valleys to the cold of the rugged mountain slopes that reach up to the area of perpetual snow.

The modern history of Sikkim begins from 1642 A.D. with the coronation of PhuntsogNamgyal as the first Chogyal or king of Sikkim in a tranquil pine covered hill in YuksomNorbugang in West Sikkim. The Namgyals were scions of the Mi-nyak House in Kham in Eastern Tibet. It is said that there were three brothers, chiefs of Kham Mi-nyak. A letter dropped from heaven directed the middle brother to go south towards Sikkim where his descendents were fated to rule. It was in Sakya that his eldest son single-handedly raised the pillars of the Sakya monastery and earned himself the sobriquet of ‘KhyeBumsa’( the strength of a lakh of men). KhyeBumsa also earned himself the hand of the daughter of the Sakya hierarch and settled in Chumbi Valley, which remained, for a long time, the epicenter of the later kingdom of Sikkim.

TREKKING SEASON:- There are basically two trekking seasons in Goecha-la Kanchendzonga Trekking. Generally the first one begins in the middle of March and closes around first week of June. One has to be prepared for an occasional shower, which is very refreshing. The flowers in bloom compensate the summer haze. The second season begins around last week of September and goes on till December. The view during this period is excellent but it is quite cold and one may expect snowfall in certain regions.

GENERAL INFORMATIONS
CLOTHING:- As the trekking area ranges from 1870 m to 4960 m one has to carry clothes suitable for low tropical area to high mountain ranges like light woolen cloths i.e. sweater ,Tee-shirts, shorts or comfortable pants to heavy pull-over, wind cheater, woolen cap, gloves etc. A raincoat is a must as the weather in the higher altitudes is difficult to predict.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : KOLKATA- DELHI - BAGDOGRA GANGTOK (4/5 HRS)1580 MTR

  Open arrival in Bagdogra Airport meet and welcome you by trekking guide at the airport and then transfer you on a journey to Gangtok, on the way stop at Border line area at Rangpo between (Sikkim & west Bengal) for immigration. After short break drive to capital of Sikkim Gangtok. Tucked away in the clouds, Gangtok is spread out on a ridge 1860 m above sea level, and looks something out of a fairy tale with houses precariously balanced on the slopes of steep hills. Apart from the gorgeous view of deep valleys, waterfalls and snow-capped mountain ranges that separate from neighboring Tibet, Bhutan and Nepal. On arrival check inn to hotel overnight at Gangtok.

• Day 2 : GANGTOK-EXCURSION TSAMGO LAKE (03 HRS) 3753 MTR

  After breakfast, drive to Tsomgo Lake, also means as The Source of the Lake (3,780m). Warm clothes needed for this place. The lake derives its water from melting snows off the surrounding mountains, which is one of the famous sacred lakes in Sikkim, situated near the borders of Tibet after Tsamgo Lake drive back to Gangtok evening relax and shop in the market
• Day 3 : GANGTOK-YUKSAM VIA RAVANGLA 1870 MTR

  After breakfast drive to Yuksam which is first capital of Sikkim en route visit Ravangla-Buddha park which is highest statue of lord Buddha on completed drive to Yuksam on arrival check inn to hotel and prepare for trekking overnight at Yuksam.

• Day 4 : TREK YUKSOM-SYACHEN (04 HRS) 2390 MTR

  After breakfast start our trek The trail We walk gently uphill, following the Rathong River’s gorge, through dense mixed jungle with magnolia, rhododendron, ferns and several varieties of orchids, brightly colored birds, and the occasional monkeys. Now runs through rice wood hills abounding in flora and fauna going through moss-laden forests of Oak, Spruce, Chestnut, Fir, Pines, Giant Magnolias and Rhododendron. You can also view hundreds of varieties of exotic birds, butterflies and orchids
• Day 5 : SYACHEN-TSHOKA (09 KM 2900 MTR)

  After breakfast walk start to Tshoka which is 2900 Mtr from sea level Tshoka is one of the busy base camp site 5/6 Hrs walk on arrival at base camp Tsoka (2900 m) the destination for today.
• Day 6 : TSHOKA TO DZONGRI (11 KM 3990 MTR )

  9-km and six hours away, each step to Dzongri leads to the world of the famed Kanchenjunga massif. The spectacle at dawn and dusk tinted in softest hues is one never to be missed - a supernatural vision of ethereal beauty Dzongri Mean’s meetings place of man and mountain god overnight at Dzongri ,
• Day 7 : DZONGRI TO THANGSHING 10 KM 5 HRS 3900 M)

  After breakfast slowly start trek to Lamuney which is last base camp for GochelaKanchendzonga trek today is relax day with acclimatization day need to be rest for next morning because you have to walk up early morning for view point over night at Lamuney
• Day 8 : LAMUNEY – GOECHALA 4990 MTR THANGSHING 3800 M 16 KM 7 TO 8 HRS

  Early morning around 3 o clock start our trek to Goecha-la for Sunrise when you reached in Goecha-la view point you can see the front page of Mt Kanchendzonhga which is Third Highest pick in the world only 1 and half km far from the view point take a photo break and have some food walk around then back to Lamuney for Hot lunch after lunch slowly walk down to Thangshing over night at Tent
• Day 9 : THANGSHING - TSHOKA 2900 M 16 KM

  After breakfast walk down to Tshoka which is really nice walk inside the Rhododendron trees with pine trees with premolars lunch at Phedang after lunch 2 hrs walk to Tshoka over night at Tent
• Day 10 : TSHOKA –YUKSOM 16 KM 7 HRS

  After breakfast walk down to Yuksom on arrival check inn to Hotel and take hot bath after the trek evening time free and easy night time take last dinner with barbeque party after successes the trek and said bye to all the trekking staff overnight at Yuksom,

• Day 11 : YUKSAM-BAGDOGRA

  After breakfast check out then transfer to Bagdogra airport which is 5/6 Hrs drive from Yuksam to Bagdogra
