Golden Eagle Festival with hikes in Altai Tavan Bogd National Park

Package Overview

Another opportunity is to combine a visit to the Eagle Festival with a trip to the Altai Tavan Bogd national park or the Khoton Khurgan lakes. This trip would take about 3 days.
In the end of September, the beginning of October, it is impossible to live in a tent for more than two or three days in the Altai Tavan Bogd mountainous area because of extreme temperatures so we usually go from Ulgii to either Tsagaan-Gol or to the Oigor river valley which takes one day and from there we will go to the Base camp of Tavan Bogd on foot or on horseback before returning to Ulgii. The whole trip takes about 3 days.International flights

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 :

  Upon your arrival at Ulaan Bataar airport you will be met by one of our representatives and after checking in at the hotel, we will take you on a sightseeing tour and for a welcome dinner. (Hotel)

• Day 2 :

  You will fly to Ulgii City, in the Bayan –Ulgii in Western Mongolia, about a 3 hour flight. At the local airport you will be met by your English-speaking guide, your driver and your expedition cook. Overnight accommodations will be our Ger Camp or at your choice our hotel Eagles Nest. ( Ger/Hotel//L/D)

• Day 3 :

  Drive to Oigor River valley, outside Ulgii, where we will visit a Kazakh nomadic family on the way. Today we’ll drive about 6 hours and overnight accommodations will in tent or with one of Kazakh families. (Ger/Tent//B/L/D)

• Day 4 :

  Hike to the Tavan Bogd Base Camp for approximately five hours. The landscape around the base is breathtaking, accentuated by Mongolia’s longest glaciers and snow-capped mountains. Overnight accommodations will be in our own tents ( Tent/B/L/D)

• Day 5 : Climbing to Malchin Peak

  After breakfast we will start slowly walking for about an hour and then start climbing to Malchin Peak (4050 m), which is on the Mongolian side of the Russian border. Malchin Peak is the lowest of the Holy Five Peaks. It takes 6 to 7 hours to climb to the top of Malchin. Most of the climb will be on rocks, then back to camp to relax. (Tent/B/L/D)

• Day 6 : Return to the White River (Tsagaan gol Valley)

  Today we will hike back to our camp in the Tsagaan Gol Valley. This evening we will have the opportunity to visit Tuvan families and share their culture and lifestyle. (Tent/B/L/D)

• Day 7 : Return to Ulgii

  We will say goodbye to our Tuvan friends and take the 7 hour drive back to Ulgii. On the way we will visit with the Kazakh Eagle Hunters. Alternatively you can spend the night in our own hotel Eagle's Nest, with all modern comforts. (Hotel/B/L/D)

• Day 8 : Golden Eagle Festival

  These two days we will attend the Golden Eagle Festival. Festivities begin with the hunters parade, displaying their hunting outfits, accessories and traditional dress, and includes competitions between the hunters and their eagles, demonstrating the special relationship between the trainer and his bird. Watch first-hand as the hunters pamper their birds and cheer for them during the competitions. Overnight accommodations will be the Ger Camp or hotel Eagle’s Nest (Hotel/Ger/B/L/D).

• Day 9 : Golden Eagle Festival

  These two days we will attend the Golden Eagle Festival. Festivities begin with the hunters parade, displaying their hunting outfits, accessories and traditional dress, and includes competitions between the hunters and their eagles, demonstrating the special relationship between the trainer and his bird. Watch first-hand as the hunters pamper their birds and cheer for them during the competitions. Overnight accommodations will be the Ger Camp or hotel Eagle’s Nest (Hotel/Ger/B/L/D).

• Day 10 :

  This morning we catch the return flight to Ulaan Baatar. Upon arrival transport to your hotel. Free afternoon for shopping ( Hotel/B/L/D)

• Day 11 :

  Departure from Ulaan Bataar Airport.
