Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival

    You will be met at Johannesburg Airport and transferred to your hotel in this thriving city.

    Check in and relax under warm blue South African skies in 'Egoli' - the city of gold. Time permitting, you can book an optional Johannesburg City tour this afternoon.

    At 19.00 we will meet up in the hotel reception for a briefing on the tour and to meet your fellow travellers.

  • Day 2 : Pretoria

    We depart from Johannesburg after breakfast and head for Pretoria, South Africa’s capital city, for a short orientation tour.

    We continue to Mpumalanga Province, known as “Paradise Country”. Dropping several hundred feet into the lush subtropical region of the Lowveld, we travel via the historic towns of Dullstroom and Lydenburg.

    After traversing the famous Long Tom Pass, we travel via Sabie and arrive in the late afternoon into Hazyview, the safari hub of the Kruger National Park.

    On escorted group tours please note that for operational reasons it is sometimes necessary to substitute one hotel with another of similar quality.

  • Day 3 : Panorama Route

    After an early breakfast, this morning we view the highlights of the breathtaking Panorama Route, including Bourke's Luck Potholes, God's Window, the Three Rondavels and the green Blyde River Canyon.

    We arrive back in Hazyview in the early afternoon, with the remainder of the day at leisure to relax or join an optional game experience (pay locally).

  • Day 4 : Kruger National Park

    An early start today as we enter the world famous Kruger National Park, driving in an open top game viewing vehicle with a lodge ranger for a morning of game viewing in this vast 2-million hectare game sanctuary that is the size of Wales (packed breakfast included).

    The Kruger National Park offers magnificent game viewing opportunities and the highest concentration of lion in the whole of Africa. With nearly 150 different species of mammals and over 100 species of reptiles, you can hope to see cheetah, giraffe, hippo, kudu, crocodiles, sable antelope, waterbuck, warthogs, baboons, wild dogs and many other interesting animals as well as the Big Five - lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino. Outstanding bird watching is also guaranteed, with over 500 different species including eagles, kingfishers, vultures and storks.

    Afterwards we return to our hotel, with afternoon at leisure or optional afternoon game drive (pay locally).

    Note: You will need your passport to enter the Kruger National Park.

  • Day 5 : Swaziland

    This morning we travel to Swaziland, an independent landlocked mountain kingdom surrounded by South Africa and known for its lovely scenery, crafts and colourful indigenous culture.

    An interactive Cultural Experience introduces us to the charming people of Swaziland and their traditions.

    We then travel via the capital city of Mbabane to the beautiful Ezulwini Valley for a true African shopping experience at the Ezulwini Craft Market, which is packed with woven baskets, beadwork and carvings. Lunch and dinner are included today.

    Note: You will need your passport today to enter Swaziland.

  • Day 6 : Swaziland

    This morning we travel south through Swaziland before re-entering South Africa and travelling to Hluhluwe in Zululand.

    Check into your hotel situated near the gate into the famous Hluhluwe Game Reserve that is renowned for its outstanding game viewing. Here there is the option of an thrilling afternoon open top game drive into this reserve, which saved the black rhino from extinction (pay locally).

  • Day 7 : St Lucia Isimangaliso Wetlands

    Weather permitting, this morning enjoy a boat ride in the St Lucia Isimangaliso Wetlands, an area that has been declared a World Heritage site because of its unique biodiversity and importance to marine conservation. With over 500 different bird species in the region, it also offers outstanding bird watching.

    Afterwards we travel southwards to the Durban North Coast, driving past many traditional Zulu kraals, eucalyptus plantations and sugar cane fields. We arrive in the early afternoon and the remainder of the day is at leisure to enjoy the golden beaches of the Indian Ocean.

  • Day 8 : Garden Route

    Transfer to Durban Airport for your onward flight.

    You will be met at Port Elizabeth Airport by your guide. Once everyone has arrived, we set off along the scenic Garden Route to the oyster capital of Knysna.

    We explore the magnificent beauty of the indigenous Tsitsikamma Forest and visit the spectacularly beautiful Storms River Mouth (weather permitting), before arriving in Knysna, nestled on the banks of a beautiful lagoon.

    Check into your hotel in this area of outstanding natural beauty.

    Note: In season we recommend bookings Knysna restaurants online in advance of your visit, to avoid disappointment.

  • Day 9 : Knysna Lagoon

    Today enjoy a boat ride on Knysna Lagoon, the entrance to which is guarded by two magnificent sandstone cliffs.

    The balance of your day is at leisure to explore Knysna, with its many interesting craft shops and restaurants.

  • Day 10 : Oudtshoorn

    We start today with a scenic drive through Wilderness and George, enjoying stunning views from the Outeniqua Pass as we travel to Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo.

    Here we visit an Ostrich Farm to learn more about these huge flightless birds and their magnificent plumage (light lunch is included today).

    In the afternoon we visit the world famous Cango Caves. This vast series of underground halls and caverns was formed over 20 million years ago in the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains. The caves, which extend for over 3 miles, contain spectacular stalagmites and stalactites and offer relatively easy access.

    We then check into our lodge, where dinner is for your own account.

  • Day 11 : Meerkat Safari

    Weather permitting, this morning there is an option to enjoy an early morning Meerkat Safari (pay locally, subject to availability). Witness these incredible creatures emerging out of their burrows in time to soak up the sun, before they head about their daily activities.

    After this thrilling experience, head back for a delicious breakfast. We then leave the Little Karoo and travel through the towns of Calitzdorp and Barrydale, where there is the opportunity to visit a local farm school and interact with the children and teachers. We then traverse the famous Route 62, passing through the small town of Montagu and continuing to Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands. This picturesque village is surrounded by spectacular vineyards, where French Huguenots settled more than 300 years ago, bringing with them their age-old French wine and food culture.

    From here you will be transferred (with a driver only) to Cape Town, spectacularly set at the foot of Table Mountain.

    Note: for a supplementary cost, you can stay overnight in Franschhoek tonight and re-join your tour in Cape Town tomorrow.

  • Day 12 : Cape Town

    At leisure to relax and explore the 'Mother City' of Cape Town.

    Many optional activities are available in this beautiful city. Don’t miss ascending Table Mountain by cable car, for one of the world's most famous views. You can visit Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned (advance booking essential in season) and explore the vibrant Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

    Visit world famous Kirstenbosch Gardens, enjoy a city tour or simply relax on golden Camps Bay Beach.

  • Day 13 : Hout Bay

    Today enjoy a full day tour to the beautiful Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve peninsula, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet.

    We drive past the sparkling beaches of Camps Bay, Clifton and Llandudno to Hout Bay, the heart of the local crayfish industry. IHere you can join an optional cruise to Seal Island to see Cape Fur seals (pay locally). We continue via Chapman’s Peak Drive to spectacular Cape Point where you may see baboons, ostrich and perhaps even dolphins or whales in season (July/November).

    On the return journey we pass through naval Simons Town, where there is the option to visit the resident penguin colony at Boulders Beach (pay locally), Fishhoek fishing village and Muizenberg, before returning to Cape Town in the late afternoon.

  • Day 14 : Departure

    Transfer to Cape Town airport for your flight home.
