Apart From Gir, This Famous Temple By This Sea Is Another Major Centre For Tourist And Pilgrims. It Is One Of India’s Twelve Jyotilingas (Spontaneously Formed Shivlingas) In 1026 Somnath’s Prosperity Drew Mahmud Of Ghazni, On The Last Of His 17 Exibitions To India. He Ransacked The Town, Plundered And Destroyed The Temple And Carried Away Camel Loads Of Gold And Precious Stones. However This Was Just One Of The Half A Dozen Times That The Temple Was Destroyed Through Its History, Dating From The Pre-Christian Era. Each Time It Was Rebuilt.
The Present Temple Built In 1947-95, Is The Seventh Reconstruction On The Original Site. This Sentinel, Skirted By The Sea On Three Sides And By A Moat On The Forth, Encloses An Area Of About 56,700 Sq M. Cannons And Canon Balls Little The Palace. A Functional Jail, Chapel Ruins And The Cavalier Lighthouse, Once The Highest Point In Diu, Exist Within The Fort Walls. In Water, A Veil Of Fog Cloaks The Island And Creates A Mysterious Ambience. St. Paul’s Church
This Early 17Th C. Church Decorated With Shell-Like Motifs Is Dedicated To Our Lady Of Immaculate Conception. Built In Gothic Style, It Has An Imposing Three Storied Façade. The Fantastic Wood Carved Panels And Crafted By Goan Artisans. A Local Catholic School Functions Upstairs And Services Are Held On Sunday. The Entire Structure Is Floodlit At Night.

The St Thomas Church Has Been Converted Into A Museum, Which Contains Antique Statues, Various Stone Inscriptions Of The Earlier Ruler, Wooden Carving, Hindu Idols And Relics Of Jain Temples. Open 0800-2200.

This Street Near Zampa Gate Is Lined By Striking Mansions That Belonged To Affluent Portuguese And Indian Merchants. They Represent Everything From European-Influenced Architecture To Local Style Bungalows. The Three-Storied Nagarsheth Haveli, With Carved Balconies And Entrances, Is An Interesting Blend Of European And Indian Designs.

Gir National Park:-
The Asiatic Lion Is The Major Attraction For Most Visitor To Junagarh, And The Gir Forest Abode. As A Result Of Excessive Hunting, Poaching And Forest Depletion, The Lion Population Was On A Dramatic Decline Before 1965, When The Government Set Up The Sanctuary Across 1153 Sq Km To Protect It. A Decade Later 258 Sq Km Inside The Sanctuary Was Declared A National Park. Currently The Lion Population Ia At About 359.
It Is Entry Point To The Sanctuary. The Forest Has Extremely Rugged And Hilly Terrain, Which Is Of Volcanic Origin. It Is Considered The Largest Dry Deciduous Forest In Western India. In Addition To The Lion There Is The Jungle Cat, Hyena, Jackal, And Some Of 500 Leopards. With Luck It Is Possible To Sight Jackals And Leopards In Their Natural Habitat. There Are Also Nilgai, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Blackbuck, Porcupine, Hare And The Rarely Seen Pangolin. The Forest Has About 300 Species Of Birds Including King Vulture, Crested Serpent Eagle, Great Horned Owl, Bush Quail, Wooden Peakar And Hornbill.
Day 5 : Sasan Gir - Dwarka
In the morning check out from the Hotel and drive to Dwarka one way visit to Porbandar (130 kms +100) Visit the home of Mahatama Gandhji. Evening arrival at Dwarka. Later eveining at Dwarka.

Dwarka, on the west cost of Gujarat on the shore of the Arabaian Sea, features in most of the legends surrounding Lord Krishna. It is from here that the grown Lord Krishna is supposed to have ruled his Kingdom. Dwarka is significant piligrimage site for the Hindus. Dwarka is sanctified as the place where Lord Vishnu slew the demon Shankhasura. Dwarka which is known as Suvarna Dwarka(the golden Dwarka) had been very prosperous and hence got the name . The Dwarkadish temple honours Krishna Bhagwan and attacts thousands of piligrims from different parts of the country. The Dwarka of Krishna’s time lies submerged under the Arabian Sea. Krishna’s residence was at Bet Dwarka which is an island, a few kms from the mainland Dwarka Bet contains as Sudhama shrine. Marine archaeologists have excavated a huge wall which is supposed to be a part of Krishna’s capital.
The other temples in Dwarka are rukmini Devi Temple, Gomati Ghat Temples, Kalyanrai temple, the Patrani temple, Durvas temple . Sharda pith set up by Adi Shankaracharya imparts instruction in Sanskrit. Drukvan in the region is one of the Jyotirlingas.
