Herculaneum made history not only for its beautiful monuments, but also for its tragic fate in 79. C when, with the largest city of Pompeii, was overwhelmed and buried by a significant amount of ash, mud and eruptive substances from Vesuvius. After almost 2000 years from the fatal incident, the excavations begun by the Bourbons and then taken up in 90' , fortunately, have established that some true Roman homes have magnificently preserved.

Some of the noteworthy aspects of Herculaneum archaeological site are the buildings, the private houses and the villas, which have retained some original traits such as their wonderful appearance adorned with furniture and wooden structures. One of the most beautiful is definitely the Samnite House, located in the historic area of town called Upper Cardo IV. The building is one of the oldest houses of Herculaneum and, inside you can admire the coffered ceiling decorated with characteristic frescoes.

Not far from the archaeological site there is one of the most famous virtual museums in Italy: the Mav. Inside, thanks to the incredible virtual movies, you will have the opportunity to witness, as if it were live, the splendor of the golden years of Herculaneum and Pompeii before the fateful eruption of 79 AD.
