Har Ki Dun or Valley of the Gods is located in the Garhwal Himalayas in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. At 3,500m above sea level, Har Ki Dun is one of the most beautiful river valley treks in the country. The diverse flora and fauna, larger-than-life landscapes, picturesque villages tucked into the mountains and vast, sprawling meadows leave you in awe. The trek continues along the beautiful Supin River, crossing bridges over clear watercourses flowing through picturesque Garhwal villages.
It is also known as a winter wonderland because in winter the trails are completely covered in snow and the sun casts its rays into the clouds. Har ki Dun trekking is surrounded by soothing views of deodar trees that are guaranteed to enchant your soul with the scent of pine.
The Har Ki Dun trail is known for its changing scenery every season. Pleasant temperatures adorn the valley in summer and spring. The flowers are in full bloom and there is a wonderful array of wildlife to be seen. With the onset of winter, the valley experiences snowfall every few weeks, turning lush green highlights into pristine white.
During your trek, you simply cannot miss the wide lush valleys, the culture and hospitality of the people as well as the remote communities along the way. The attractive view of the Laundhar Glacier as well as the surrounding Swargarohini group of peaks will definitely make your trek thrilling and exciting.
During the trek, the state bird of Uttarakhand named Himalayan Monal and several other animals can be spotted in the forest area. Not only this but the valley also offers amazing views of Jaundhar glacier, Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini Peaks I and II and also Black peak which is definitely a feast for your eyes.
Although you can trek in both winter and summer, if you want to experience nature in all its glory, then pre-monsoon and post-monsoon are the best time to trek because during winter you will find soothing greenery all around along with the snow. covered mountains.
To reach HKD, you will pass through various villages that offer excellent insight into local village life along with their traditional values. The Valley is definitely a tourist's delight as it is one of the most charming and attractive valleys in the Western Himalayas.

Day 1 : Dehradun to Sankri
Drive Duration: 9-10 hours, Drive Distance: 220 km
Altitude: 6,400 ft
Highlight:
The journey starts from the capital city of Dehradun. If you have opted for OnMap Adventure transportation, please ensure that you board your vehicle from ISBT Dehradun no later than 7:00 AM.
Sankri is located at a distance of 220 km from Dehradun and it would take around 9-10 hours to cross, gaining an altitude of 6400 feet. The drive takes you through the spectacular hills of Mussoorie and the famous Kempty Falls. The roads here are long and winding, and rapid mountain streams run parallel to the roads in many sections.
Day 2 : Sankri to Pauni Garaat via Taluka
Drive Duration: 1 hour, Drive Distance: 12 km
Trek distance: 9 km, Trek Duration: 6 hours
Altitude: 8,200 ft
Highlight:
A motorable road connects Sankri with the Taluka for over 12 km. It takes one hour to reach Taluka. The taluka is a small picturesque village with a cluster of concrete houses and a few government guesthouses. The landscape is dominated by the gushing Supin River flowing through the village.
After a short break for refreshments, we start the 9 km trek towards Pauni Garaat. The trek starts on a rough rocky path that leads from the village. Beyond this point, the trail gradually climbs higher, passing various flowers such as fleece and sunflowers.
The campsite for the day, Pauni Garaat, is located in a large clearing on the way. However, the actual village of Pauni Garaat is located on the other side of the river.
After setting up camp and freshening up, take some time to explore the campsite.
Day 3 : Pauni Garaat to Kalkattiyadhaar
Trek distance: 8 km, Trek Duration: 6 hours
Altitude: 9,921 ft
Highlight:
After breakfast, we start the 8 km-long treks to Kalkattiyadhaar. It is characterized by a sparse cluster of concrete buildings and a guest house of the forest department on the bank of the river Supin.
The village of Oslo is located on the other side of the river, at a slightly higher altitude of about one hundred meters. Next to Seema village lies the infamous Seema Bridge. Once you cross the bridge, be prepared for a steep climb up to where we meet the trail coming out of Osla.
The trail eventually culminates at a ridge locally named Kalkattiyadhar and you will be able to see some famous peaks like Buyal Devsu and Mt. Black Peak.
This is going to stay for today, enjoy your evening here with tea and snacks.
Day 4 : Kalkattiyadhaar to Har Ki Doon zero point and back to Kalkattiyadhaar
Trek distance: 14 km, Trek Duration: 7 hours
Altitude: 11,700 ft
Highlight:
The summit day is the longest of all days as we cover a distance of about 14 km. Be ready for an early morning start. We start our trip at 6 am after breakfast, just as the sun is rising. In December, a blanket of pristine white snow glistens meekly all around as we pass through. Depending on the density and firmness of the snow, your trek leader may provide you with microspikes and gaiters for easy navigation.
The trail eventually takes you to a section with an incline of about 45 degrees. Although not steep, the section will likely be covered in knee-deep snow, making it a challenging climb.
The final stretch to the summit climbs side by side with the river through dense forest before opening up into a clearing that cradles some of the prominent peaks in the region. At Har Ki Dun Summit. From the top, you will be able to see the open area below the Swaragrohini-1 peak and also catch a glimpse of the snow-capped Hata Peak and Black Peak.
Day 5 : Kalkattiyadhaar to Sankri via Pauni Garaat and Taluka
Trek distance: 17 km, Trek Duration: 6 hours
Drive Distance: 12 km, Drive Duration: 1 hour
Altitude: 6,916 ft
Highlight:
On this day we’ll start our return back to base camp, all the way is descending so it’ll not be hard to cover this distance.
Wake up in time to catch the pleasant sunrise from Kalkattiyadhaar Camp. Morning temperatures are relatively low and in December they can even drop to minus. The way back is relatively easy as the trail is mostly downhill.
After breakfast, we start the trek by crossing the Har Ki Dun bridge and continue with a gentle descent downstream. From there ascend to Kalkattiyadhaar and gradually descend to Pauni Garaat.
Proceeding further, Our descent into the Taluka follows the same route we have taken. The trek leads through dense forests of Chir pine, various ferns and flowering trees that form a beautiful trail.
Since we will be descending all day today, be careful not to put too much pressure on your knees as you walk. Trekking poles can be useful for this section.
The final stretch to the Taluka is on a paved trail, at the end of which our vehicle will be ready to take you back to Sankri by road.
Day 6 : Sankri to Dehradun
Drive Distance: 220 km, Drive Duration: 9-10 hour
Altitude: 2,099 ft
Highlight:
This is the last day of our har Ki doon trek and on this day we’ll start our drive back to Dehradun early morning so that we can reach there on time if you have a train or bus to catch.
And if you have a spare day then have fun in Dehradun valley with Mussoorie.
