Venture into the history of southern Romania with a voyage through the waterways of Comana Natural Park. Among the towering reeds that frame the Neajlov River, you can find a 15th-century monastery and relics from some of the earliest civilizations in this corner of eastern Europe.
The day starts with pickup from your hotel in the morning and a ride to the peaceful commune of Comana, which rests at the edge of the old wilderness known as the Delta. Get a look at the brilliant white walls and domed towers of the Comana Monastery, which traces its origins back to 1461 as a fortress built by Vlad the Impaler, and visit the underground museum for a look at funeral stones and old ceramic preserved from the earliest peoples that lived in the area.
From here, your guide leads you into the natural reservation that surrounds the community on 3 sides and preserves a piece of the historic Romanian wilderness. Take to the water in a small motorboat to spend the day surrounded by nature as you learn about the rich history of the area before you head back to Bucharest.
