Day 1 : Arrival Delhi.
You will be met from your flight to Delhi International Airport by Summit Safari’s representative / your tour guide, and he will accompany you to your hotel in New Delhi. Rest of the day free at rest after a long flight.
Day 2 : Delhi to Shimla 2,050 metres / 6,726 feet. ( By Train and By Car)
Today it is along but interesting day of journey from the plains of India from Delhi to The Foot Hills of Himalayas to Shimla. Early in the morning, you will be assisted to board the super fast Shatabdhi train from New Delhi (07:30 A.M) to Chandigarh (11: 10 A.M). Breakfast will be served to you on this first class train. On arrival at Chandigarh railway station we will be met by our drivers and guide further they will drive us to Shimla, in the Foothills of Himalayas. We will arrive Shimla by 3:00 P.M where on arrival you will check in to your hotel and evening free to walk around Shimla- the erstwhile “Summer Capital of India”.
Day 3 : Shimla (short familiarisation ride – approximately 20 Kms / 4-5 hrs )
Today we will meet our team, guides, driver/ helpers etc and the cycles that you will ride for the next several days to the Indian Himalayas. After an exhaustive briefing by your tour escort we will be taking a short ride (2-3 hrs) around Shimla, in an effort to know your cycle properly and to get familiar with it. On the local tour you will be assisted to the government office for the process of making the inner line permits, which would be required for your further journey into upper Kinnaur and to the Spiti valley. We will also peddle to the Viceregal lodge and the Jakhoo Temple ( monkey temple ) of Shimla. The evening can be spent taking a walk on The Mall, soaking-in the charm of Shimla and visiting the Ridge, scandal point of Shimla, Christ Church of Shimla. Second Night in the same hotel in Shimla.
Day 4 : Shimla to Narkanda 2,708 metres / 8,885 feet (65 kms / 5-6 hrs).
After breakfast we will start to Narkanda a beautiful village in the country sides of Shimla, on our way to deep into the Himalayas. We will be following the Indo- Tibetian Border Road (National Highway No. 22) and enroute we will pass by the beautiful villages of Fagu, Theog, Matiana which are famous for apples, cherry and apricot orchards. En route we will have many comfort breaks and photo stops. Overnight in hotel in Narkanda.
Day 5 : Narkanda to Sarahan 2, 313 metres / 7,589 feet ( 90 Kms / 6- 7 hrs)
After breakfast we will start to Sarahan village. The road leads down till Sainj where we meet the satlej River. For the next couple of days we will following the Indo Tibetian border road in the gorgeous Sutlej valley. Enroute we will pass by Rampur, Jeori from where we will leave the NH 22 behind and have to paddle uphill to the village of Sarahan. The major attraction in Sarahan is centuries-old Hindu temple of Goddess Bhimakali. Steeped in legend, the temple complex is a resplendent example of hill architecture. Sarahan is also the gateway to Kinnaur valley. In the evening we will visit the famous temple of Bhimakali at Sarahan. This is the same temple in which human sacrifices were made about two centuries ago. Overnight in hotel in Sarahan.
Day 6 : Sarahan to Sangla – 2,700 meters / 8,860 feet (87 Kms / 7-8 hrs)
After breakfast at your hotel, we will continue to Sangla (7-8 hrs). We ride down from Sarahan to Jeori ( NH -22), yesterday where we left the Indo – Tibetian Borer road. Today we will enter the Kinnaur valley. Cycling along the fierce Sutlej river flowing in the gorges below we will reach Karchham from where leaving the Indo –Tibetian border road behind, we will take a road in to the beautiful Baspa valley. Cycling on the challenging mountain road for another 18 km on the narrow winding road with hair-raising gorges & cliffs high above the Baspa River gushing below we will reach Sangla village by late afternoon. The valley is also known as the Baspa Sangla valley, after river Baspa which flows through the valley and it is the part of Kinnaur valley. Rest of the day free at leisure. Overnight in comfortable luxury tented accommodation in Sangla.
Day 7 : Sangla (Return trip to Chitkul – 3,450 metres / 11,320 feet ( 40 Kms / 5 hrs)
After breakfast we will make an easy start and will paddle to Chitkul village, another quaint village in the Baspa Valley. Chitkul is the last village on the Indian Border with Tibet (Chineese occupied Tibet) and offers great views of snow clad peaks of the Kinnaur region. The village of Chitkul is like something from a fairy tale, and you will have a chance to walk slowly around it. We will return back to Sangla for lunch and rest of the day is free to have some rest. In case you require a day at rest there is flexibility not to paddle till Chitkul village . You can just relax to enjoy the views from your beautiful campsite in the lap of Himalayas or if you are interested, you can take a walk along the Baspa river to visit village Batseri / village Kamru and Sangla where we will visit the beautifully carved old temples and Buddhist monasteries. You will have plenty of opportunity to speak to the local people in these valleys, and our guide will be happy to interpret. The landscapes are stunning, and you will have plenty of time to enjoy them .Second night in the same comfortable luxury tented accommodation / guest house in Sangla.
Day 8 : Sangla to Kalpa- 2,960 metres / 9,711 feet ( 55 Kms / 5 hrs)
After breakfasts we will bicycle back down to Karchham NH-22 and will continue on the Indo Tibetian Road to Recong Peo, the district headquarters of Kinnaur valley. 07 km above Recong Peo is the village of Kalpa. You will check in to your hotel and rest of the day is free at leisure. These villages are covered with thick pine forests and are famous for apricots and apples. The finest view of the Mt. Kinner Kailash (6,000 metres) can be had from here. This is a spectacular sight early in the morning as the rising sun touches the snowy peaks with crimson and gold light. Overnight in hotel in Kalpa.
Day 9 : Kalpa to Puh- 2, 837 metres / 9426 feet ( 72 kms / 6 hrs)
After breakfast we will ride further down to Recong Peo and will meet The NH 22 at Powari to Nako .Today the mountain landscapes start changing from green to rocky barren and brown landscapes. Riding along the Sutlej we will reach Akpa// Spello village, where our Inner Line Permits will be checked at a Police check post. By late afternoon we will reach Puh village with lush green fields, orchards of apricot, almond trees and vineyards. Overnight stay in a guest house or in a village home stay with the local family.
Day 10 : Puh to Nako- 3,662 metres /12,014 feet (45 Kms / 5 hrs)
After breakfast we will bicycle down to the valley and will follow Sutlej River to Khab, the confluence of the Sutlej and Spiti rivers. Leaving Sutlej behind, from this point we will be paddling up through the beautiful mountains to reach Nako, a traditional Buddhist village situated near the small but beautiful Nako Lake (3,660 metres). After lunch we will take you for a walk in the village with your guide and visit the Buddhist monastery related to guru Padmasambhava (a great Buddhist scholar, whose teachings spread to Tibet from India), we will also visit Nako Lake, the residence of His Holiness The Dalai Lama ji. This is first of the many high altitude lakes visited by you on this tour. Rest of the time you are free to enjoy a wonderful view of the whole Nako village with the Himalayas as the backdrop of the village. Overnight in fixed tented camps with attached toilets/ guest house in Nako.
Day 11 : Nako to Tabo via Gue- 3050 metres/ 10,007 feet ( 82 kms / 7 hrs)
Today after breakfast we will continue through the higher Himalayan valleys. Enroute we will cross “Maling Nala”- a major water cross on road, the beautiful villages of Chango, Sumdo, Shalkher. Today we will be entering the beautiful Spiti valley which is also known as the cold desert of the Himalayas (as this area is cut from rest of the world due to heavy snow in the winters). Our inner line permits will be checked in Sumdo again at the police check post. After finishing with the process of inner line permits we will continue cycling to Tabo village and en route in a inner valley we will visit the Gue village which is also the last Indian village on Indo-Tibetan boarder. Here we will be visiting the naturally preserved mummy of a Buddhist monk which is about 600 years old, which was discovered here while building the road. Overnight stay in Tabo in a guest house.
Day 12 : Tabo to Dhankar- 3,894 metres 12,774 feet ( 30 Kms / 3-4 hrs)
Today after breakfast we will visit the Tabo monastery which is the oldest monastery in the Himalayas and we will continue further to Dhankar village where we will stay in a guest house for one night. After lunch we will hike up to Dhankar Lake, in the nearby mountains.
Day 13 : Dhankar to Kaza – 3,650 metres / 11,980 feet ( 30 kms / 3 hrs)
After breakfast we will visit the Dhankar village, monastery and the ruins of Dhankar fort, which presents the magnificent views of the Himalayan Mountains with the village and pin valley below. Later on we continue our drive to Kaza where we will check in at your hotel. Kaza is the head-quarters of the Spiti sub-division and we will be staying here for two consecutive nights. Here we would be able to use facilities like Internet & long distance phone calls again that we left behind at Kalpa.
Day 14 : Local day ride around Kaza. (40 kms 4-6 hrs)
After breakfast we will start our ride to Langza and Komic village (4,275 Metres / 14,026 feet), considered to be one of the highest villages in the world. Later on we will return back to Kaza. Second night in the same hotel / guest house in Kaza.
Day 15 : Kaza to Kibber 4,270 metres / 14,010 feet ( 18 kms 2-3 hrs)
After breakfast we will continue our ride to Kee Monastery and the village of Kibber. We will visit Kee Monastery and will continue to Kibber village. Lunch will be in a local restaurant in Kibber village. In the evening you have a choice to walk or to bicyacle to the nearby mountains where, there are chances to see the Himalayan wildlife including Himalayan Blue sheep, snow Ibex etc. Overnight in guest house in Kibber.
Day 16 : Kibber to Losar- 4,084 metres / 13,400 feet ( 76 kms / 5-6 hrs)
After breakfast we will continue to Losar the last village of Spiti on our tour. Enroute we will pass by some of the very beautiful villages of Spiti Valley. Overnight in guest house in Losar.
Day 17 : Losar to Chandra Tal lake 4, 300 metres /14,100 feet ( 42 Kms / 5 hrs)
After breakfast we will continue our climb further and we will cross The Kunzum Pass (4,551 metres / 15,000 feet) and will reach at the second High Altitude Lake on your tour. Enroute we will pass by some of the very beautiful villages of Spiti Valley , will cross a couple of water streams (glacier melts) and will ride over Kunzum pass (4,551 metres / 15,000 feet) the first mountain pass of our tour. On the other side of the Kunzum pass, just before a couple of kilometers before Batal a rough road leads you to the Beautiful Chandertal Lake also known as the “Lake Of The Moon”. Just 1-2 kms before the lake we will camp at a pasture land as, the Motor bikes / Vehicles are not allowed beyond this point & camping is no longer permitted near the lake. Here, the accommodation will be at a “make-shift” camp-site in “dome” tent (sleeps two each). Sleeping bags will be provided. Dinner & breakfast will be basic “camping meals”. Call of nature will have to be answered in a small toilet tents or “in the open”. Rest of the day is free to walk around the beautiful Clear water “Chandertal Lake”.
Day 18 : Chandertal to Gramphoo 3,200 metres / 10,500 feet ( 63 kms / 5-6 hrs)
After breakfast we will ride down into the Lahaul Valley, along the Chandra river, originating from a glacier near Baralacha La. The road from Chandertal all the way to Gramphu (where it meets the popular “Manali-Leh highway”) offers some of the most thrilling riding experience we will have on this tour. This stretch of the journey has several big & small water crossings challenging enough to test your grit & determination. Overnight in Gramphoo in a tentented accommodation.
Day 19 : Gramphoo to Manali over Rohtaang pass- 3,979 metres / 13,054 feet ( 63 kms 5-6 hrs)
After breakfast we will climb up to Rohtaang pass from where we ride down hill till Manali. The views are stunning from Rohtaang pass till manali and we will pass through Marhi , Gulaba, Kothi, Palchan. Overnight in hotel in Manali.
Day 20 : Local Manali. 2,050 metres / 6,726 ft ( Rest day) .
Today you will make a late start after a leisurely breakfast. You can choose to paddle around Manali or to drive with a car. We will visit Old Manali village, Hadimba Devi temple and Vashist village (with hot water springs) with your guide. Lunch will be in a restaurant in Manali. In the evening you are free to explore the Manali market and shops.
Day 21 : Manali to Delhi.
After breakfast we will make an early start this morning ( 07:00 A.M) and we will drive you to Kalka / Chandigarh (9 hrs) to board the super fast Shatabdi Express (air conditioned) train to Delhi. Board the train from Kalka in late evening (5: 40 P.M.) and reach Delhi by night (10: 00 P.M.). Dinner is served to you on this first class express train. Reaching Delhi railway station you will we transferred to the hotel. Overnight at Delhi.
Day 22 : Fly back to your country.
Today after breakfast at your hotel, you will be assisted and will be transfer to the international airport at New Delhi to board your return flight. In case you have a flight at night or in late evening than you may wish to go for a sightseeing in Delhi. We will visit Bangla sahib Gurudwara ( a Sikh shrine), a walking tour of old Delhi market and the Gandhi Smriti, also known as the Birla house where –Mahatma Gandhi had lived the last 144 days of his life from 09 September 1947 to 30 January 1948 when he was assassinated in 78th year of life at Birla House Prayer Grounds by Nathuram Godse. Thus, the house treasures many memories of his life. If interested we will arrange for a bicycle rickshaw ride in old Delhi or a Tuk- Tuk ( Three wheeler ) ride in New Delhi for you. You can have a choice to have your lunch in a local restaurant in New Delhi and later on we will transfer you to the international airport at New Delhi to board your return flight.
