Day 1 : Arrival
Srinagar is the start point for this tour design.
On arrival, you shall be taken to the chosen Houseboat for your stay.
A heritage walk through the old city of Srinagar and a visit to Jalali House at Zadibal and the Jama Masjid start off your dream, exclusive travel choice. The evening is marked by a ride in the Shikara at Dal Lake/Nigeen Lake. A breathtaking sunset is all yours to witness and cherish.
You shall be back to your HouseBoat for the night. This is your first exotic Overnighter in Srinagar.
Day 2 : Onwards to Kargil
After your favourite breakfast served on the Houseboat, you shall be driving to Kargilpasing through Drass.
Kargil has a unusual connection with our hearts and head. Being a place where armies clashed and destroyed generations of cultural co-existence and livelihoods, a war that exposed the quiet tribal and cross-cultural civilization of the Drokpas, this place even in passing is a touchstone experience. A visit to the War memorial underlines this experience and is an offering and salutation in one.
Drassis the second coldest place in the world. It also marks the stark difference between the two sides of this state – Kashmir as the verdant beauty and Ladakh as the cold desert.
A well-appointed accommodation in Kargil shall be your night stay. This shall be your first Overnighter in Kargil.
Day 3 : Onwards to Leh
Not only do you cross over from verdancy and Chinar beauty to a cold desert but you also cross over from a largely Muslim and Hindu presence to a Buddhist one, as you shall drive from Kargil to Leh.
The Lamayuru monastery, a moonscape presence, marks this difference first. As you drive on you shall see the Confluence of the Indus and the Zanskar rivers, a magnificently clear two-colour ‘sangam’ at Nimoo.
You shall stop at the Pathar Sahib Gurudwara, a witness of Sikh influence and Indian Army CSR and social involvement. This may also be seen as a geological wonder just as the Magnetic Hill close by.
Just on the outskirts of Leh, the Hall of Fame and the War Museum area must halt.
Early evening, you shall be in Leh and shall check-in at the chosen hotel. Dinner and warm conversations of the day’s sights and sounds shall make this your first Overnighter in Leh.
Day 4 : Leh to Hunder
A wonderful 125 kms drive of about 5 hours is the agenda for this day.
After your favouritebreakfast you shall leave for Hunder. We cross over one of the highest motorablepasses via the Khardungla Pass at a tortuously climbed 18,380 feet.
You shall visit the sand dunes of Hunder and have your only chance to ride the Bactrian double-humped camel. Sadly, this transport marvel of the Silk Route era of bygone centuries has become a mere pack animal after India’s partition in 1947 and now a ‘tourist ride animal’.
You shall then witness the DeskitGompa which is considered to be one of the oldest Monastery in Ladakh. A marvelous specimen of Buddhist art and ritual, the Deskit is must see place on this circuit.
A beautiful Organic Resort shall be your tented accommodation for the night. This shall be your first Overnighter in Hunder
Day 5 : Hunder to Turtuk
A stunning 77 kms drive of about a 3 hours will bring you to Turtuk.
Turtuk, is the last frontier allowed to civilians and marks the border to Pakistan’s Baltistan region. As is expected of a border town it shows the intermingling of racial, cultural, religious and socio-economic aspects of people. Even linguistically, language-wise, these people are more Balti speaking than Hindi or Budhic speaking
You shall visit TurtukYul and Farol villages. The Fridge point, the Turtuk View point, the Jama Masjid and Mohammad Khan’s House are the highlights of the day.
Return to a tented accommodation at the Organic Resort, surrounded by organic gardens – from where most of your dinner and breakfast will come. This shall be your first Overnighter in Turtuk.
Day 6 : Turtuk
An early morning trek to the Waterfall will bring you closest to the morning sounds and views of nature. Birds, mountain streams, glacial streams, K2 range and much more is a delight to experience.
The rest of the day has been ;left fro you to experience as you feel.
Return to a tented accommodation at the Organic Resort. This shall be your second Overnighter in Turtuk.
Day 7 : Turtuk to Leh
After your Organic breakfast you shall proceed to Leh. On the way you shall stop at the Deskit monastery or the Khardung village for tea-coffee-snacks
On reaching Leh by early evening you shall check-in at the chosen Hotel.
Dinner and warm conversations of the day’s sights shall close your day. Thsis shall be your first Overnighter in Leh.
Day 8 : PangongTso
Ageological marvel and a Bollywood superstar, the PangongTso, is the highlight of today’s drive.
So after your favourite breakfast you shall leave for this 140 kms drive of about 5 hours. The scenic mountain-scape has the added adventure of passing another of the highest passes, the Changla Pass, at a 5486 metres.
This famous blue brackish Lake of Pangong is roughly 5-6 kms wide and over 144 kms long with half of it running In Chinese territory. It is like all other lakes in the Ladakh region a remnant of the Tethys Sea, and the geological process that raised the ancient ocean waters and even formed the folded Himalayan ranges.
A tented night at thePangongTso is the height of a Himalayan experience
