We stop for a stroll around the Auckland Regional Botanic Gardens on our way to meet our local Maori guide at the impressive Hunua Falls in the bush covered hills of South Auckland. Our guide talks of traditional Maori bush medicines and culture. On our return to the city we stop to admire the city-scape from the top of one of our most prominent volcanic cones situated within a working farm on the central city fringe.
AUCKLAND REGIONAL BOTANIC GARDENS
Our regional Botanic Gardens located in the vibrant culturally diverse suburbs of South Auckland boast an ever-changing pallet of seasonal colour across 64 hectares of beautiful gardens and native bush. We suggest an easy 30 minute walk through selected regions including the beautiful and fragrant rose gardens. Or alternatively you may prefer to admire the gardens with coffee and cake from the Gardens cafe.
GUIDED CULTURAL WALK AT HUNUA FALLS
Our wonderful local Maori guide will share with you her knowledge, and answer all of your questions about traditional Maori culture and medicines as she guides you on a short easy walk to the impressive Hunua Falls located in the lush Hunua Ranges - Te Ngaherehere o Kohukohunui. The Hunua Ranges is a rugged regional forest park located 40 minutes south of Auckland city which covers an area of approximately 250 square km. Several water catchments are located in the Hunua Ranges, providing approximately half of the water supplied to the Auckland city region.
ONE TREE HILL & CORNWALL PARK
Maungakiekie (commonly known as One Tree Hill) is steeped in Maori history and is situated in the middle of Cornwall Park, one of our city's most popular recreational parks which is also a sheep farm in which you are likely to see free-ranging sheep most of the year, and lambs during the Spring. We can drive to the top of One Tree Hill to view the sprawling city of Auckland from this iconic volcanic cone.
