THE HUNUA RANGES - TE NGAHEREHERE O KOHUKOHUNUI
Being proud locals of this region, this is one of our personal favourites! The Hunua Ranges - traditionally known as Te Ngaherehere O Kohukohunui. This forest is the largest within the Auckland region at approximately 250 square kilometres.
EXPERIENCE TRADITIONAL CULTURE WITH OUR LOCAL MAORI GUIDE
We meet with our local guide amongst the bush clad hills from where you will be lead through the native forest, descending 300 stairs* to the base of one of the many gorges which make up this range, and onward to view the impressive Hunua Falls. As you walk, our local Maori guide will share her knowledge of traditional culture and bush medicines. There is an opportunity to enjoy a refreshing dip at an idyllic cascading river location.
* Alternatively we can drive directly to the base of the falls to take a short easy walk with our local Maori guide who will share with us the history and Taonga of this area.
OR AN ALPACA FARM!*
If you are done with all the scenery and culture and you just want to get up close with a cuddly Alpaca we have an alternative option just for you! Visit a working Alpaca farm and learn everything that you ever wanted to know about these unique animals. Watch an alpaca wool weaving demonstration and you have the opportunity to purchase exquisite Alpaca wool products crafted on site.
*Alpaca farm tour additional charge $20 per person.
COUNTRY VILLAGES, BEACHES AND FRESH LOCAL PRODUCE
A few minutes down the road we may have the opportunity to enjoy a wine tasting at a local vineyard perched amongst the rural hills. Next we head to Clevedon village just in time for lunch where you can select from a number of lunch venues. Clevedon village is well known for boutique shops and delicious local specialties. Oyster lovers may like to take a detour to visit the local Oyster farm. Our road trip continues via the winding Pohutukawa coast road overhung in the Summer months with our flowering native Christmas tree, arriving at a popular seaside village with the opportunity for a swim and a hokey pokey ice cream or just a quiet stroll along the golden sandy beach.
AUCKLAND REGIONAL BOTANIC GARDENS
Our return journey to Auckland City takes us via the Auckland Botanic Gardens where we can take a stroll to check out the colourful seasonal delights on display.
ONE TREE HILL AND CORNWALL (FARM) PARK
Our last stop of the day is to the peak of iconic One Tree Hill, and through the adjacent inner city working sheep farm known as Cornwall Park, before returning to your accommodation.
