Hindus believe that one has to visit the four holy dhams once in a lifetime. The main deity worshiped in the temple is Lord Vishnu. The recent archaeological discovery says that the ruler of Kalinga, Anantavarman Chodaganaga Dev began building the present church. Orissan ruler Ananga Bhima rebuilt the temple in the year 1174.
