Bhutan's most spectacular trek offers spectacular views of the 7314m JHOMOLHARI, JICHU DRAKEY (6989m) and TSHERIM GANG (6789m).
Maximum: Elevation 4950m
Standard: Medium- heard.
Season: April to Early June, September to November.
Start from Paro and finished at Thimphu capital city.
Day 1 : Arrival to Paro
Paro is situated in a beautiful valley and is a fitting introduction to this charming Kingdom.
If your arrival is before lunch then have a lunch in paro town and after the lunch visit the National Museum, Paro Dzong and the oldest monastery in the country is called kyechu Lhakhang or Take a hike to Taktshang (Tiger's Nest) the sacred Taktshang Monastery 900m above the valley floor. Guru Rinpoche said to flown to the site riding on a tigress. He subsequently mediated here for three months in 8th century. It is one of the Bhutan's most holy sites and draws pilgrims not only Bhutan but also from neighboring Buddhist countries.
Day 2 : Drukgyel Dzong to Shana Zampa
Distances: 17km, 5 to 6 hours, 370m ascent and 80m descent.
The trek starts from Drukgyel Dzong at 2500m. Today's trail flows the river uphill through a narrow agriculture valleys far as the border of Army base camp and camp at 2800m in Shana Zam.
Day 3 : Shana Zam to Thangthangka
Walking distance: 23km, 8 to 9 hours, 770m ascent and 20m descent.
This is a long hard day with lots of short ups and downs of 10m to 20m.
The trial continues its gradual climb alongside the Paro Chu or Paro river.through conifers and Rhododendrons. At this point the route enters Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Park. On the way, we can have a fantastic view of Mount Jhomolhari. We will camp in meadow at 3700m in Thangthangka.
Day 4 : Thangthangka to Jangothang (Base camp)
Distances: 20km, 5 to 6 hour of walk and 480m ascent.
Jomolhari trek
This is a not a long day, but there is a significant elevation gain at high altitude, and you will be worn out when you reach to camp. Jhomolhari was probably covered with clouds when you arrived but you will get a view if you get up early in the morning. The camp is beneath a ruined fortress (Jangothangthang Dzong) at the base of Mount Jhomolhari. Camp at elevation 4080m (base camp Jangothang).
Day 5 : Optional: Acclimatization Day And Exploration Of Jangothang
A day in Jangothang is the highlights of the treks; the views don't get any better then here. There are lots of day hikes you can make and a day here is very well spent. The highest day hike you will able to go till 4880m.and you will have a wonderful views of Mount Jhomolhari, Jechudarkey and Tserim gang. It is very spectacular views of those mountains.
Day 6 : Jangothang to Lingzhi
Distance: 18km , 7-8 hours, 850m ascent, 878m descent.
The trail climbs gradually to Nyilila pass (4820m). After the pass you will have an long descent till Lingzhi. Broad Yak pastures can be seen along the Length of the route. After that you will have an excellent view of Lingzhi basin. Mount Jechu Darkey and its descending glaciers can be seen at the north end of the valley. We camp in Lingzhi near by the river at (3980). If you are reaching earlier to the camp side, you can visit Lingzhi Dzong in the evening.
Day 7 : Lingzhi to Shodu
Distance: 22km, 8-9 hours, 9040 ascents and 920m descent.
Start early because this day is long tiring. The trail ascents to the Yalila pass at (4930m) on the way you will have a wonderful view of Mount Jhomolhari, Tserin Gang and Masang Gang. It's a steep descent in to a hanging valley, passing a small lake is called (Khedo Tsho) at (4720m). After a long descending and crossing to the Wangchu valley and reach in camp side at (4090m).
Day 8 : Shodu to Barshong
Distance: 16 km, 5-6 hours, 250m ascent and 670m descent.
Today path follows the Thimphu chu (river) and pass through forests with rhododendrons and waterfalls. The route climbs gradually for a hour to Barshong where there is a dilapidated community hall and the camp below the ruins at (3710m).
Day 9 : Barshong to Dodina
Distance: 23km, 7-8 hours, 780m ascent and 1220m descent.
The trail descents gently through a dense forest of rhododendron birch and conifers then drops steep on a rocky trail to meet the Wangchu (Wang river) and reach to Dolam Kencho in a large meadow at 3320m, then trail descents to a steam at 3060m and climbs again to a pass at 3110m. After the pass the trail leads down to the Dodina 2640m and end of the trek and half an hour drive to capital city Thimphu. Over night in hotel.
Day 10 : Thimphu to Thimphu
Thimphu Sight Seeing and evening drive to Paro and over night in Paro.
Day 11 : Departure
Departure.
