    Mahakaleshwar

    Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, shrines which are said to be the most sacred abodes of Shiva. It is located in the ancient city of Ujjain in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. The temple is situated on the side of the holy river Shipra.

    Sandipani Ashram

    Lord Krishna and Sudama received regular education in the ashram of Guru Sandipani. Maharishi Sandipani's ashram is situated at Mangalnath road foot. The area near the ashram is known as Ankpat, a place believed to have been used by Lord Krishna to wash his writings.

    Mangalnath Temple

    The Mangalnath Temple is a Hindu temple located in the Ujjain city of Madhya Pradesh. It is dedicated to Mahadeva, the guardian deity of the city. Located on the banks of the Shipra River, it is one of the most active temples in the city, visited by hundreds of devotees daily.

    Bade GaneshJi

    Bada Ganeshji ka Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Ganesha. It is located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India. The temple is located near the entrance of the Mahakaleshwar temple. As the name suggests, the temple has two big idols of Ganesha

    Kal Bhairav

    Dedicated to the most ferocious form of Lord Shiva, Kal Bhairav temple is one of the most revered temples in Ujjain. Worship of the eight bhairavas is followed in the Shaivite tradition here and the chief deity among them is Kal Bhairav. Situated on the banks of river Shipra, the temple is around 8 km away from Ujjain Railway Station. Built by King Bhadrasen, the walls of this temple display traces of beautiful Malwa Paintings. A unique feature of the temple is that liquor is offered to the Lord, all-around the year. Statue of a dog, the vehicle of Kalbhairav greets the visitors at the entrance of the temple.

  • Day 2 : Ujjain

    Jahaz Mahal

    This palace is believed to have been built under Ghiyasuddin Khilji in the 15th century for his 15,000 queens. The architecture is apparently inspired by Hindu style.

    Jahaz Mahal is located in the Royal Enclave, in the northern part of the Citadel of Mandu. Built during Ghiyathuddin Khalji (1469 – 1500), the double-storeyed Jahaz Mahal tower to a height of 9.7 meters with Munj Talao on the west and the Kapur Talao on the east.

    Roopmati's Pavilion

    Rani Roopmati's Pavilion was built as an army observation post. It served a more romantic purpose as Roopmati's retreat. From this picturesque pavilion perched on a hilltop, the queen could gaze at her paramour's palace.

    Baz Bahadur's Palace

    Rani Roopmati (kavi roopmati) was a Poet queen of Mandu and the consort of the Sultan of Malwa, Baz Bahadur. Roopmati features prominently in the folklores of Malwa, which often describe the romance of the Sultan and his consort.

    Jami Masjid

    The Jama Masjid is a 16th-century congregational mosque in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Fatehpur Sikri, located in Uttar Pradesh, India. It was built by Mughal emperor Akbar, and was the largest mosque in the empire at the time of construction.

    Champa Baoli

    Champa Baoli is an architectural masterpiece that is located in the Jahaz Mahal complex in Mandu, Mp. Part of the royal group of monuments is a beautifully designed stepwell in a Turkish style that is named after the Champa flower due to the fragrance of its water.

    Lal Bagh Palace

    Built between 1886 and 1921, Lal Bagh Palace is one of the most exquisite palaces belonging to the Holkar Dynasty. Due to its unique style of construction, it was vouched as one of the most stylish places of residence in India. The elaborate interiors of the palace is a beautiful amalgamation of Italian marble columns, grand chandeliers, rich Persian carpets, Italian style wall paintings, Greek mythological reliefs and more. The ballroom of the palace boasts of a wooden floor mounted on springs for an extra bounce. The kitchen built on the opposite bank of the river has been connected with a well-lit underground tunnel. The gates of the palace are an imitation of the gates of the Buckingham Palace, London.

    Rajwada Palace

    Built by Maharaja Shivajirao Holkar on the bank of River Khan, Rajwada Palace, also known as Holkar Palace, is counted amongst the oldest buildings in Indore. Located in Khajuri Bazaar, the 200-year-old palace reflects a beautiful blend of Muslim, Maratha and French architecture style. The entry gate of the palace is a lofty wooden gate with metal studs. The monument is made of gopura stone and wood structure with balconies and windows studded by flanked bastions and arch-shaped entrance.

    Central Museum

    Central Museum is a regional institution displaying an exclusively rare and elegant collection of architecture. The history dates back to the time of the Holka Dynasty when the Kings were persuaded to submit to the British. The armors, artifices of the Holkas, their arms, coins, and ammunition have been kept for people to witness. It also houses various antiquities that have been gathered from Malwa, Madhya Pradesh. The museum also boasts of a rich collection of the Palmer Scriptures famous for their careful and intricate ornamentation. Various shapes crafted with stones depicting emblematic figures, done with absolute precision is a treat to the eyes. The museum also features an impressive collection of the ancient Hindus and Jain sculptures.

    Gomatgiri

    Gomatgiri is a divine and pious place for the devotees of Jain religion. This small hillock houses a 21 feet statue of Gomateshwar, a repetition of the Bahubali statue of Shrawanbegola. To one's amazement, it comprises of 24 marble temples, each of which is dedicated to 24 Tirthankaras of Jain religion. The locale boasts of a picturesque setting, the hillock overlooks the Indore airport and offers marvelous views of a sunset/sunrise. Small shops located in the area serve tea, snacks, ice creams, etc. adding a streak of flavour to the experience.

    Omkareshwar Temple

    One of the twelve Jyotirlingas, Omkareshwar Temple is located on an island in the shape of OM - the holiest symbol of Hinduism. Pilgrims from all over the country visit the shrine to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. The temple features a grand Sabha Mandap (meeting or prayer hall) with a lingam. There's also a decorated bed and a palna in the temple, which is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva used to sleep at night. The main highlight of the temple is its Shayan Aarti, which happens around 8 in the evening.

    Mamaleshwar Temple

    Jyotirlinga in Omkareshwar is divided into two parts – the first half is called Omkareshwara and the other Mamaleshwar (also known as Amareshwar). The temple on the south bank f Narmada river, right opposite to the Omkareshwar temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple depicts rich architectural skill of 1063 AD. The temple is also known for Lingarchan Puja. Every day, Brahmins were provided with a wooden board having 1300 holes and plant Shiva Lingas.

    Maheshwar

    Get spellbound by the temples and natural beauty of the historic riverside town of Maheshwar on a day trip. Located on the bank of Narmada River, Maheshwar is famous for its eye-pleasing temples, calm surroundings and Maheshwari sarees. One can see the traces of this town in the Mahabharata and Ramayana under its old name, Mahishmati. During the 18th century, the town was the capital of Rajmata Ahilya Devi Holkar’s empire. To know more about the history of Maheshwar, do explore the rambling 16th-century Ahilya Fort, built by Emperor Akbar, which is now partly converted into a hotel. Kaleshwara Temple, Rajarajeshwara Temple and Akhileshwar Temple are some of the temples that travelers must visit on a tour of Maheshwar.
