Day 1 : Arrive Kathmandu
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative welcomes you with flower garland and transfer to hotel. After refreshment, visit Swayambhunath Temple and Kathmandu Durbar Square including Hanuman Dhoka Palace and Kumari Ghar - abode of Living Goddess Kumari. Overnight at hotel.
Kathmandu Durbar Square (World Heritage Site) : Kathmandu Durbar Square is an overwhelming frenzy of art and architecture. The medieval palace complex is erected in different styles right beside the Kumari Temple. The enormous courtyard is locally known as the Basantapur Durbar, or Nautale Durbar, and the locality is called Basantapur. The square was constructed in 1770 AD upon the initiation of King Prithivi Narayan Shah to commemorate his successful conquest of the Kathmandu Valley in 1768 AD. The massive pagoda-like structure in the centre houses the tutelary deity of the Malla Kings. The palace building is a maze of stone-paved quadrangles. Coronation ceremonies, until recently, were performed in the main courtyard, the Nyasal Chowk. The palace façade is a mosaic of intricately carved windows, shaded by gently sloping roofs of shimmering brown tiles.
Swayambhunath/Monkey Temple (World Heritage Site) : The Swayambhunath Stupa crowns a hillock to the west of Kathmandu. A massive white dome surmounted by a 13-stage spire, the Stupa is one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in Nepal. It is said to be 2000 years old. Its origins are linked to the creation of the Kathmandu Valley by Bodhisattva Manjushree. Legend has it that the site of the present day city was originally a huge lake. Swayambhu was manifested in the lake as a brilliant light emanating from a lotus and Manjushree let the water out by slashing a passage through the surrounding hills to facilitate paying homage to the deity, thus making the valley habitable.
Day 2 : Kathmandu - Pokhara
After breakfast, take a 6 hour scenic drive or a 30 minute flight to Pokhara - a tourists' paradise located some 200 Kms west of Kathmandu. The sightseeing tour of Pokhara includes visit to Davis fall, Gupteshwor Cave, Seti Gorge and Tibetan refugee camp. Enjoy an hour boating on Phewa Lake with magnificent Mt. Macchhapuchhare on the background, and leisure walk along Fewa lake. Overnight at hotel.
Pokhara : The rare combination of snow-clad peaks, snow-fed lakes and rivers has helped to make the Pokhara Valley one of the most picturesque natural attractions in Nepal. The basin which is 210 km away from Kathmandu provides sites for the base camps of many of Nepal's most popular trekking and rafting expeditions.
The attractions of the Pokhara Valley are Lake Phewa, boating, pony rides, fishing, canoeing on the lake, paragliding and other fascinating activities.
Day 3 : Pokhara - Kathmandu - Nagarkot
After breakfast, fly or drive back to Kathmandu. Explore the remaining highlights of the valley including Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square.
Leave the hustle and bustle of the valley in the afternoon and drive countryside to Nagarkot for sunset view. Overnight in resort at Nagarkot.
Pashupatinath (World Heritage Site): One of the holiest Hindu shrines in the world, the temple of Pashupatinath is the focus of pilgrims from all over Nepal and India.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is built in the familiar Pagoda style.
Chronicles indicate the temple's existence prior to 400 AD. It lies 5 km east of the city center. This holy place is a picturesque collection of temples and shrines. The corpses of all deceased Hindus are taken to Pashupatinath for cremation. Only Hindus are allowed entry to the inner sanctum.
Bouddhanath (World Heritage Site): This is the world's biggest Stupa located about 2 kilometers to the north of Pashupatinath Temple. This colossal edifice is known by the name of Bouddhanath, the god of wisdom. It is difficult to assign a period to its creation, as some believe that it was built during the reign of either Shiva Dev or Anshu Verma in the 7th century AD. The design is much like the Swayambhu Stupa,
except that the spire consists of squares diminishing in size successively, instead of
circles. Bouddhanath attracts Buddhist pilgrims from all over the world.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square (World Heritage Site): The city of Bhaktapur lies 14 km
to the east of Kathmandu. Its Durbar Square is a symphony of art and architecture.
The centerpiece is the 55-window palace overlooking the square, which is paved over
with brick. The history of the palace dates back to the 12th century.
Nagarkot: There are various places around the edge of Kathmandu Valley that offer
great mountain views. Nagarkot is one of them. Situated at an altitude of 2175m and
just 32 km east of Kathmandu, it offers panoramic views of the Himalayas. On a clear
day, most of the major peaks of the eastern Himalayas, including the one and only
Everest, can be seen from there. Mountain watchers make their way up to the village,
stay overnight in one of lodges or hotels and then awake at the crack of dawn to take
in the magnificence of the sunrise over the Himalayas.
Day 4 : Nagarkot - Kathmandu
Get mesmerized very early in the morning with magnificent sunrise view over the Himalayas! After breakfast drive back to Kathmandu. The remaining of the day is left for free to roam around the city or do some last minute souvenir shopping. Overnight at hotel.
