Kedarnath is a town in Rudraprayag district in the state of Uttarakhand in India and has gained importance because of the Kedarnath Temple. It is approximately 86 kilometres from Rudraprayag, the district headquarter. It is a Nagar panchayat in the Rudraprayag district. Kedarnath is the most remote of the four Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites. It is located in the Himalayas, about 3,583 m (11,755 ft) above sea level near the Chorabari Glacier, which is the source of the Mandakini river. The town is flanked by snow-capped peaks, most prominently the Kedarnath Mountain. The nearest road head is at Gaurikund about 16 km away. The town suffered extensive destruction during June 2013 from the Flash Floods caused by torrential rains in Uttarakhand state.

Location
Kedarnath is located at a distance of 223 km from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand and close to the source of the Mandakini River at the height of 3,583 m (11,755 ft) above sea level.[10] The township is built on a barren stretch of land on the shores of Mandakini river. The surrounding scenery of the Himalayas and green pastures makes it a very attractive place for pilgrimage and trekking. Behind the town and the Kedarnath Temple, stands the majestic Kedarnath peak at 6,940 m (22,769 ft), the Kedar Dome at 6,831 m (22,411 ft) and other peaks of the range.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arrive Haridwar OR Dehradun

  Welcome to the abode of Hari through Haridwar. It is the entry point to the most religious places on Earth. KEDARNATH Yatra is the sacred pilgrimage where tonnes of devotees come to the mountains to celebrate their devotion. Once you leave your home for the Yatra Haridwar is your next big stop. You will commence the rest of the Yatra from here. So, get settled in your hotels, freshen up and get ready for spiritual experience.
  
  While you are at Haridwar let’s make the most out of it. You can visit all the famous temples namely Daksh Temple, Rudraksha Temple, Kankhal, Jain Temple, Bharat Mata Mandir etc. Har Ki Pauri is the world-famous and crowded ghat on the river Ganges, where evening aarti is an eye-treat. Do not forget to pray in front of Chanda Devi. The temple is regarded as the ‘Seedha Peetha’ which means that wishes come true. The idol of Devi is believed to be installed by Adi Shankaracharya.

  In between place are Rishikesh to Devprag around 78 km and then devprag to Shrinagr is around 38 km and then shrinagr to rudraprayag is around 35 km then Rudraprayag to tiwara is around 11km Tiwara to Agastmuni is around 10 km agastmuni to kund is around 20 km kund to Guptakashi is around 12 km

  Guptakashi to sonprayag is around 35 kms from sonprayag we will have to trek around 17 km to reach Kedarnath Temple
