Day 1 : Tbilisi - Chargali - Korsha - Shatili
From Tbilisi we will drive to Chargali, situated in the mountainous Pshavi, birthplace of illustrious Georgian poet Vazha-Pshavela. We will be able to see the house where he was raised and the museum. At evening we will arrive in Shatili guest house, where we will have the dinner with the scenery of old Shatili.
Day 2 : Shatili - Mutso - Mt. Khidotani
After the breakfast we will have a tour around village Shatili, which is located in the deep Arghuni gorge at approximate 1 400 meters. The village is actually a unique complex of medieval-to-early modern fortresses and fortified dwellings of stone and mortar, which functioned both, as a residential area and a fortress, guarding the northeastern outskirts of the country. The fortress consists of the terraced structures, dominated by flat-roofed dwellings and some 60 towers, which cluster together to create a single chain of fortifications. On the way to Mutso, we will visit the Anatory tombs (According to the legend, when Khevsurians, who were so close to the nature, felt they were dying, used to enter the Anatory tombs themselves). We will continue to the village of Mutso, which was one of the historical watchmen and defenders of historical region of Georgia. This castle is situated on the North slope of the Caucasus in the gorge of the river Ardotistkali, at 1880m above sea level. Mutso is built on the vertical terrace of the rock. There are up to 30m high medieval family houses, 4 military fortresses and several ancient structured ruins. Following the gorge down the river, we will visit the village Ardoti, where we will be able to observe the habitual art of Khevsurians and get delighted with the original architecture of medieval village, which is harmonically merged with the nature. This land is reputed as the ‘Sea of Dances and Songs’, where people enjoy these pursuits. At evening we will approach Mt. Khidotani, where we will encamp and have a dinner.
Day 3 : Mt. Khidotani - Atsunta Pass - Omalo
After the breakfast we will hike to the direction of Atsunta Pass (3431m). The path gradually will go up through alpine meadows; the path gradually goes up through alpine meadows along the head of Hatsunta river. From the top we will have unforgettable views of the surrounding summits, including the deep canyons of Khevsureti, Tusheti and uplifting view of mount Tebulo 4500m. The route will go along the north slope of the watershed range Gonta and we will arrive in the beautiful village Dartlo, attracting its visitors with ancient architectural assembly and impressive landscape. The village is included in the world’s Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. After exploring the surroundings we continue to village Omalo (2100m) and the castle Keselo, where we will have a dinner and overnight in the guest house.
Day 4 : Omalo - Shepherds Camp in Tusheti
We will start our trip early in the morning after breakfast and visit some shepherds from Tusheti. On the banks of mountain streams, which run through the large deciduous valleys and wood forests with a scattering of pine trees. They quickly give way to spruce and fir forests, which transform into areas of dwarf mountain pine, alternating with rowanberry and lofty Swiss Stone pines. These subsequently give rise to the vast mountain pastures and large meadows that have always been used as sheep pastures. In this harmonious nature, we will encamp and have a dinner. Around the bonfire we will have possibility to hear interesting tales from the local shepherds, who will share with us some secrets of Tusheti.
Day 5 : Shepherds Camp - Girevi - Farsma - Tchesho
After the breakfast we will continue our trek towards the village Girevi, which is situated in the open area, where two rivers join together and make a beautiful sight. From village Girevi, we will drive towards the direction of village Tchesho, en route we will pass village Farsma too. At the end of the day, arrival at the guest house in Tchesho and the dinner.
Day 6 : Tchesho - Dano - Kvavlo - Dartlo - Omalo
We will start our trip early in the morning after breakfast and visit some beautiful villages. The route will go along the north slope of the watershed range Gonta. Gradually we will drop down and pass the beautiful villages Dano, Kvavlo and Dartlo. Following the road, we will drive to Omalo again to have the dinner and overnight at the guest house.
Day 7 : Omalo - Alaverdi - Shuamta - Tbilisi
After breakfast we will start our journey back to Tbilisi. On the way we have short stop at Alaverdi cathedral (11th century), which is an outstanding example of medieval Georgian architecture. The cathedral is an architectural complex surrounded by a fortification. The complex includes medieval refectory, the bell tower with defense wall and the summer palace. After lunch, we will also be able to see Shuamta Monasteries (5-16th centuries), two of the most significant architectural monuments of Kakheti. The route ends in Tbilisi.
