Join the TranzCoastal and head north to experience the sights, sounds and tastes that both of New Zealand’s major island have to offer. Experience sheep country in North Canterbury and the spectacular coastline between the Kaikoura Ranges and the Pacific. Travel north along the rugged coastline, to the fertile plains of the Manawatu. Cross the volcanic landscape of the Desert Road, past the majestic peaks of Tongariro, Ngaruahoe and Ruapehu.

​Reporting time 7.30 am at the Intercity terminal, 118 Bealey Ave (between Colombo St and Durham St intersections). Departs at 8.00 am EVERY DAY
Additional Nights – Available to any destination of your choosing. You can add an extra night for a competitive rate. If you would like to extend your tour, please advise your consultant when making your booking. We definitely recommend that you spend extra nights prior to and after your tour to explore the gateway destinations, as these provide many unique attractions worth going the extra mile for.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Christchurch - Picton - Wellington

  The Coastal Pacific train passes through North Canterbury sheep country to Kaikoura, where the track skims the spectacular coastline between the Kaikoura Ranges and the Pacific, before turning inland to Picton and the Marlborough Sounds. The Coastal Pacific Train Journey does not operate from May to October and will be replaced with a coach. Cross Cook Strait by ferry to reach the North Island. Consider adding an evening sightseeing tour or an additional night to explore the capital city.
  
  Please note: The Coastal Pacific trains on this day (Picton to Kaikoura to Christchurch) will be replaced by a coach in the periods of 5th May to 30th of September.
  
  Stay 1 night in Wellington.

• Day 2 : Wellington - Rotorua

  Travel north along the rugged coastline, to the fertile plains of the Manawatu. Cross the volcanic landscape of the Desert Road, past the majestic peaks of Tongariro, Ngaruahoe and Ruapehu. Skirt Lake Taupo to the resort town of Taupo nestled on its northern shores. Pass Wairakei – wreathed by steam to reach Rotorua, steeped in Maori culture and history.
  
  Stay 2 nights in Rotorua.

• Day 3 : At Rotorua

  This morning see roaning geysers and boiling mud pools at the Te Puia Geothermal Experience, tame trout at Rainbow Springs and watch perfoming sheep and dogs at the Agrodome. Tonight enjoy a Maori Hangi & Concert at Tamaki Maori Village. This afternoon enjoy your lunch at Skyline Restaurant including gondola.

• Day 4 : Rotorua - Waitomo - Auckland

  Travel to Waitomo for a tour of the Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Take an underground boat cruise beneath a galaxy of glowworms. Continue north alongside the Waikato River to Auckland. You arrive late afternoon.
