The Tenzing Hillary airport of Lukla was built in 1964 by Sir Edmund Hillary (the 1st Everest climber) as part of his project in Khumbu region. Today, it takes just half an hour to reach Lukla from Kathmandu. This credit goes just to Sir Hillary.
