Mabul, a 20-hectare island with land surfaces 2 to 3 meters above sea level, is popular to divers as it is 15-km away from Sipadan, the diving paradise. Mabul is surrounded by sandy beaches, which is perched on the northwest corner of a 2 square kilometer reef! Since 1970s, the island housed 2 fishing villages of Kampung Mabul (Mabul Village) and Kampung Musu (Musu Village). There are about 2000 villagers living in Mabul that are mainly Bajau Laut and Suluk Muslims who live a nomadic lifestyle. In 1992, Sipadan Mabul Resort purchased the southern part of Mabul Island to transform it as a diving paradise for tourism. Sipadan Mabul Resort is accorded as 4-Star Resort and a member of PADI and NAUI PRO GOLD Dive Resort!
Mabul is well known for MUCK Diving! Muck is a perfect habitat for unusual, exotic and juvenile organisms that make their homes in the sediment. Not only just one or two sites for diving, Mabul offers muck dives at tons of sites surrounding the whole island of Mabul itself and also Kapalai Island nearby.
