Manaslu 8,156 meters, (also known as Kutang) is the 8th highest mountain in the world. Manaslu lies in the Kali Gandaki valley of the Nepal Himalayas. Its name, which means that “Mountain of the Spirit”, comes from the Sanskrit word “Manasa”, meaning “intellect” or “soul”. Manaslu was first climbed on May 9, 1956, by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu, members of a Japanese expedition. Having a huge range of altitudinal and climatic variations, the Manaslu expedition provides a wonderful and diverse habitat for a rich variety of flora and fauna.

Yet the trek is geographically spectacular and culturally fascinating. Manaslu’s lengthy ridges and valley glaciers provide feasible approaches from all directions and culminate in a top that towers steeply above its surrounding landscape. The climbing route follows a relatively straight line to the summit, which has few technical sections. Normally, four camps are set up during Manaslu climbing.
