NORTH OF THE HARBOUR BRIDGE
We head North across the Auckland harbour bridge to explore the rural delights within a few hours of Auckland city. Along the way we view an 800-year-old kauri tree, visit the country town of Warkworth and have the opportunity to visit The Honey Centre with bee displays and an impressive selection of honey products available to purchase.
MATAKANA VILLAGE
Just in time for lunch we arrive at Matakana village; home to an irresistible selection of eclectic shops, popular cafes, local vineyards, and the famous Morris & James pottery shop and café. For those lucky enough to visit on a Saturday, the bustling Matakana Farmers markets offer an irresistible selection of local produce and artisan foods.
GOAT ISLAND GLASS BOTTOM BOAT
Goat Island is a marine reserve 20 minutes north of Matakana offering aquatic experiences ranging from a glass-bottom boat cruise to snorkelling and scuba diving. When weather and schedules permit, we have the option of exploring the sub-marine world of this popular reserve in the glass bottom boat.
When sea conditions are not on our side, we can alternatively explore the beautiful coastline in this region or perhaps enjoy the vineyards, craft breweries, gourmet delights and creative art hubs which are numerous in this area.
PUHOI DELIGHTS
Our scenic afternoon return journey to Auckland City will be broken up with opportunities for tasting some excellent local wines or experience the rugged charm of the historic Puhoi pub. Alternatively the tasty gourmet delights of the renowned Puhoi cheese factory café are highly recommended.
