The world-renowned Matterhorn
The Matterhorn (14,692 feet) is so iconic that even Walt Disney modeled a ride after the jagged mountain. It straddles the border between Switzerland and Italy, but is mostly associated with Switzerland. It is said to be the most-photographed mountain in the world. You will most definitely want to have your camera handy as you hike through this beautiful area.
St. Moritz, more than just a winter destination
Though St. Moritz was the birthplace of Alpine winter tourism and has hosted the Winter Olympics twice, it is also well-known for its summertime tourism as well. Over 3,000 years ago it was established as a summer spa resort thanks to its mineral springs. St. Moritz is a town of “firsts” - first electric light lit at Christmastime in 1878, first golf tournament in the Alps in 1889, and ran one of the first ski lifts in Switzerland in 1935.
The Zermatt you've always dreamed of
Few sights are more exciting than the view of the Matterhorn against a blue, cloudless background. Still more rewarding is the feeling you get from hiking in the fresh, crisp air. The Matter valley is surrounded by 30 peaks over 4,000 meters tall. A network of valleys and trails wind among these mountains making this part of the Swiss Alps a hiker’s wonderland. It’s also a car-free village which makes it easy for you to walk the streets and shop or explore.
Fairy tale Pontresina
Pontresina has been hosting visitors since the 19th century and we can’t wait to take you there with us! There are old Engadine houses with traditional sgraffito from as early as the 17th century throughout the village. Of course there is plenty of scenic hiking to do through the spectacular area surrounding Pontresina. The area is also known for its wildlife, including a nearby ibex colony which is the largest in Switzerland. All who visit Pontresina can’t help but submit to its charm.
Rooted in Zermatt and Pontresina
This tour is a new offering for Alpenwild. Unlike most of our other tours where you hike to a new destination every day, this tour gives you the chance to get to know these 2 villages really well. When you arrive you have the opportunity to unpack and get comfortable in your hotel room since you will be staying in that village for the next 6 nights. Hiking days are more flexible, but still deliver beautiful sites and rewarding trails. Plus you will get a free day in each village to shop, explore, do some more hiking, or whatever else you would like to do!
