The Marangu Route is one of the most popular routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest peak in Africa. It's known as the "Coca-Cola" route due to its relative ease and popularity, making it a common choice for many climbers.
Day 1 : Marangu Gate (1860 m) to Mandara Hut (2720 m)
Hike through the rainforest, which is lush and filled with diverse flora and fauna.
Approximate hiking time: 5–6 hours.
Day 2 : Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3720 m)
Pass through the rainforest, then the heath and moorland zones.
Views of Mawenzi Peak and the summit of Kilimanjaro.
Approximate hiking time: 6-7 hours.
Day 3 : Horombo Hut to Mawenzi Ridge (4310 m) and back to Horombo Hut
Acclimatization day to help adjust to the altitude.
Optional hike to Mawenzi Ridge for stunning views.
Approximate hiking time: 4-5 hours.
Day 4 : Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4700 m)
Ascend to the "Saddle," the flat area between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
Alpine desert landscape with sparse vegetation.
Approximate hiking time: 6-7 hours.
Day 5 : Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (5895 m) and descent to Horombo Hut
Start the ascent to Uhuru Peak, the summit of Kilimanjaro, usually in the early hours of the morning.
Reach the summit in time for sunrise, if possible.
Descend back to Horombo Hut for the night.
Approximate hiking time: 11–15 hours.
Day 6 : Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
Descend through the rainforest to Marangu Gate.
Receive certificates of achievement.
Approximate hiking time: 5–6 hours.
