NORTH COAST
The coastline North of Mombasa is a world of enthralling history and natural beauty.
The coast is lined with pristine palm fringed beaches, and the calm inviting waters of the Indian Ocean. The beaches are broken by the wide mouth of Kilifi Creek, whose azure waters are a popular port of call on the international yachting circuit. FORT JESUS
Built in 1593, Fort Jesus was designed by an Italian Architect to secure the safety of Portuguese living on the East Coast of Africa. It has had a long history of hostilities of the interested parties that used to live in Mombasa. This location has in tow a long history and change of purpose. Up to 1895, the Fort was used as barracks for the soldiers later converted into a prison and from 1962 a museum.
The exhibits inside the museum consist of finds from archeological excavations at Fort Jesus, Gede, Manda, Ungwana and other sites, including objects donated by notable individuals. Visit this location and marvel at a Fort that has lived through the years of hostilities and a hush climate and still remains structurally well maintained.
MOMBASA OLD TOWN
The old town of Mombasa where most of the heritage of this second largest city in Kenya is largely confined in is inhabited by a richly diverse group of communities : locals, Arabs, Asians, Portuguese and the British which have co-existed for hundreds of years. The various social, political, religious and economic activities of these groups have created a distinct character and culture which together has come to define this old town. The visible aspect of this unique character is a collection of historical buildings dating from the 18th century which combines, African, Arabic and European influences. Many of these buildings still exist, in beautifully carved doors as well as elegantly styled balconies attached to their turn of the century facades.
MAMBA VILLAGE
Mamba Village is situated in Nyali area of Mombasa, Kenya. East Africa’s largest crocodile farm, Mamba village has never failed to impress. A tour of the farm starts with a movie on the life cycle and behavior of crocodiles. Mamba Village Crocodile Farm in Mombasa has crocodiles from all stages, from giant crocodiles to baby crocodiles and the white crocodiles.
It is followed by a comprehensive tour of the rest of farm and ends with the highlight of the day, a spectacular scene of blood-thirsty crocodiles fighting for food during feeding time. Excellent cuisine is available at the Mamba Restaurant, and the house specialty is superbly grilled crocodile meat. Souvenirs of your visit can be bought at the Mamba Souvenir shop located within the village.
HALLER PARK
Haller Park is a nature park in Bamburi, Mombasa, on the Kenyan coast. It is the transformation of a quarry wasteland into an ecological area. The creation of new habitats attracted birds, insects and mammals. Some larger mammals were introduced while others moved in. you are likely to see big animals such as elands and Oryx’s to smaller ones like tortoises and turtles and even beetles. For aquaculture enthusiasts, you will be able to see and learn how you can mix farm fish and vegetables here in the park. Take a slow walk in the park while enjoying a cool ocean breeze, enjoy feeding the giraffes or sit on the shades of the vast flora.
Mombasa Marine National Park and Reserve
This is a marine park and national reserve in Mombasa, Kenya. It is located on the coast near tourist areas and is populous for snorkeling and diving activities. It is the most heavily visited of Kenya’s marine parks as It has coral reefs in its waters.
The Marine Park is characterized by warm tropical conditions varying at the surface between 25°C and 31°C during the year, stable salinity regimes and moderate nutrient levels.
Take a glass-bottomed boat ride, dive and swim in the pristine waters, snorkel as you swim with the fish, relax on the white beaches amongst other numerous activities in this park.
