Matheran, a Hill station, is situated in the Raigad District of Maharashtra. It is situated at a height of 800 mtrs in the Sahyadri Hill Range. the etire surrounding area is cloaked in thick forests. Amid the green Jambol forest. It covers an area of 8 square kilometers in Sahyadris.
This lovely spot was discovered in 1850 by Hugh Poyntz Malet, the British collector of Thane district. The Sahyadris see heavy rainfalls every Monsoon season and are a welcome getaway from the city heat. The hill-station is at its best during the tail-end of monsoon season, the season of breathtaking waterfalls, mist covered valleys, dew dripped greenery and floating clouds.
