6 Nights / 7 Days
This tour features two distinct regions in Montenegro. Begin with sea level kayaking in the Bay of Kotor. Massive mountain slopes rise abruptly from the sea. The coastline is dotted with historic villages, including two UNESCO World Heritage sites, the medieval walled city of Kotor and picturesque Perast. Your home base is a restored seaside villa in Lepetane at the bay’s mid-point. From here, paddle to every nook and cranny in the fiord. Explore WWII submarine tunnels in the bay’s cliffs, the postcard perfect small church islands near Perast, waterfalls that spill into the bay near Risan, gaze up at Kotor’s walls and paddle to sea side restaurants serving local wine and the day’s catch.

Bay of Kotor Montenegro Map
The transition from Adriatic coastal life to majestic mountains is an adventure in itself. Switchbacked roads and stone tunnels zip you to the mountains. The scenic drive culminates at a riverside campground of charming log cabins surrounded by forested mountain slopes that rise from Europe's longest and deepest river gorge. Crisp mountain air and a hearty meal around an open campfire present a wonderful contrast with the Adriatic coast.
Arrive Dubrovnik airport; transfer to a lovely seaside villa in Lepetane, Montenegro. Lepetane is centrally located in the butterfly-shaped bay, a perfect location from which to explore the entire bay and numerous coastal villages that dot is shoreline; dinner in the villa's seaside garden.
Paddle east to the colorful "church islands" situated off Perast, then south to the walled city of Kotor tucked in the deepest part of the bay. Perast and Kotor, the bay's most historic and well-known towns, are both UNESCO world heritage sites. Climb Kotor's majestic city walls for dramatic views of the entire bay and Adriatic Sea beyond.
Explore an entirely different part of the bay by kayak; paddle towards Tivat to visit Europe's new upscale marina, Porto Montenegro, filled with mega yachts and high-end boutiques and restaurants; visit the abandoned Club Med islands in the bay of Tivat before returning to Lepetane.
Leave the coast behind via 23 winding switchbacks to climb the mountains encircling the Bay of Kotor. The three-hour drive to the northern mountains and the Tara River Canyon is breathtakingly scenic, with the final 30 minutes through natural stone tunnels along the Piva River a highlight; overnight in cozy riverside log cabins with dinner around a roaring bonfire.
Riverside breakfast and a short transfer upstream to white water raft the most spectacular 18 kms, with 23 rapids, of the Tara River before it crosses into Bosnia; free afternoon at camp to lounge in a hammock, hike local trails, swim, mountain bike, hydrospeed, or jeep safari; another log cabin night and bonfire dinner under a star-studded sky.
Camp breakfast and an optional hike before returning to Lepetane and the Bay of Kotor; optional biking, kayaking, or stand up paddleboarding from Lepetane; farewell dinner at the villa.
