After teasing you over the last few weeks with all the delicious food in and around Jordan, it is only fair that we now allow you to come and taste it for your self!
Combined the best of Jordan sights with the best of Jordan food in Above and Below Adventures new 10 Day Culinary Tour.
Day 1 : Arrival in Amman
Our agent will meet you at Queen Alia International Airport and transfer you to your hotel in Amman for the first overnight
Day 2 : Amman City Tour and Jerash
After breakfast take a tour of the historical and cultural sights of the city. The Citadel and Roman Amphitheatre, museums and At Galleries. Along the way stop off at the souq for a snack at some of the fantastic street vendors, Choose from falafel, shawerma, pastries, and many more. Look out for the original Sugar cane juice too! In the afternoon, transfer to the Roman city of Jerash for a 2 hour tour. In the evening, visit The Winemaker restaurant in Amman, for a wine tasting session of the local Zumot Wines, then enjoy a dinner with specially selected accompanying wines. Overnight Amman.
Day 3 : Ajloun
An area north of Amman famous for its Olive groves. Follow the trails around the area taking in the spectacular views and if it is the right time of year (Oct – Jan) join in with the local olive harvest. Along the trail you will make a stop at the Biscuit house. Run by the local women producing amazing biscuits from the olives,nuts and seeds found along the Ajloun trails. At the end of the trail make a tour of Ajloun castle – a crusader castle sitting on top of the hill dominating the Ajloun skyline. In the evening return to Amman for your first cooking lesson at Beit Sitti. Overnight Amman.
Day 4 : Madaba and Mount Nebo
Just a short drive from Amman is the city of Madaba. Famous for its 4th century mosaic map of the Holy Land, also visit the Archaeological museum to see the other amazing mosaics discovered in the and around the city. Then continue on to Mount Nebo – reportedly the place where Moses first spotted the Holy Land. It is also believed that this is where he is buried. For lunch stop off for some mezze style lunch or try a different sort of street food from the many vendors around the down town area. In the afternoon, stop of at Jordan’s only micro brewery – Carakale to sample (and buy!!) some local brews made right here in Jordan. Free evening to explore Amman or Madaba – we highly recommend taking this time to visit the down town areas and discover some of the amazing street food and knafeh! (If you have room!) Overnight – Amman or Madaba
Day 5 : King’s Highway to Karak and Petra
Take Jordan’s famous scenic route along the King’s Highway, enjoy some of the breathtaking views on our way up in to the mountains to Karak. Here you will enjoy a tour of the crusader castle before visiting the local farms to see how the Jordan Jameed is made. After watching how it is prepared and stored, sit down for lunch to try some for yourself as part of Mansaf – Jordan’s national dish. In the late afternoon, continue down to Petra. Overnight Petra.
Day 6 : Petra
Enjoy a full day exploring the Ancient wonder of Petra. A guide will join you for a 4 hour tour – then you will have the rest of the day to continue the adventure in your own time. In the evening, head to Petra Kitchen for your second cooking class. Overnight Petra.
Day 7 : Wadi Rum
An early morning transfer will find you in the desert landscape of Wadi Rum. Here you will join with a local Bedouin for a Jeep tour of the desert to visit some of the interesting sites such as the natural rock bridges, canyons and caves with ancient inscriptions and what is believed to have been Lawrence of Arabia’s house. After enjoying the sunset, drive to a camp to try the Bedouin delicacy of Zarb. Meat and vegetables cooked under the ground. Overnight Wadi Rum.
Day 8 : Aqaba
A free day to relax by the Red Sea. However, if you prefer we can arrange for you a lunch cruise with snorkeling, a glass bottom boat trip, diving, handicraft class or ATV/buggy tour. Just let us know when booking what activity you would like to do. In the evening, visit one of the local restaurants to try the Aqaba special of Sayyadia. Overnight Aqaba.
Day 9 : Aqaba
Today our driver will take you on a guided city tour. Visit the old and new parts of the city – the mamluk fort and ancient sites of Ayla. The Great Arab Revolt Plaza, south beach and Aquarium. Finish the tour with a visit to the souq to see the local fresh fruit and veg, and Aqaba’s famous nuts and spices. Then join a local family in the afternoon for your third cooking class. Free evening in Aqaba. Overnight Aqaba.
Day 10 : Departure
Transfer to Aqaba airport for departure.
