Day 1 : Arrival in Bagdogra & Transfer to Gangtok
After reaching the Bagdogra Airport, you would be greeted by a MakeMyTrip representative and then you would travel to the hotel in Gangtok. The pleasant drive should take around 4 hours.
After reaching Gangtok, you would check-in at the hotel and then, spend the rest of the day at leisure. You could choose to explore the city on your own in the evening or spend the time enjoying the view of the valley from the hotel. For those wishing to know if luck favours them, a visit to the Casino (own expense) can be an exciting way to enjoy your evening before ending the day
Day 2 : Trip to Tshangu Lake from Gangtok
After enjoying the breakfast at the hotel, you would be leaving for a visit to the Tshangu Lake.
The lake derives its waters from melting snow of the mountains, a beautiful sight to witness. Earlier, the lamas used to study the colour of water and predict the future, a darker colour would indicate troublesome time in the coming year. Despite the colour that flows in the lake on your visit, the view of the lake and the surrounding mountains would surely leave a lasting impression.
You would also be visiting the Baba Mandir, a shrine dedicated to ‘Baba Harbhajan Singh’, a soldier of the Indian Army. He died in 1968 and the shrine was made to honour his wishes (he requested one of his friends in the dreams, for a Samadhi to be made for him). It is also believed that he guards the international boundary between India and China, and protects the people. Many people also hold the belief that the place has a healing spirit, and a bottle of water left there, could cure illness after consumption.
After returning back to Gangtok, you could explore the town on your own. You can shop at the local market or enjoy the delicious food at the local restaurants (own expense). Later, return to the hotel
Day 3 : Day in Gangtok
After a delightful breakfast, you would set off for a full day tour of Gangtok at around 10 am, which includes a visit to the most beautiful monastery in Sikkim, the Rumtek Monastery.
After this, you would also visit the Do-Drul Chorten Stupa, built in 1946, it happens to be one of the biggest stupa in Sikkim. The stupa is surrounded by 108 prayer wheels that are inscribed with Tibetan mantras. You would also visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology that researches the religion, history, language, art and culture of Tibet and Tibetans. The museum and the library on the premises offer an insight into the culture.
The culture of any place is clearly visible in its art and handicraft. The Cottage Industry in Gangtok is no exception. This is the place to pick-up souvenirs and mementos from your trip. Later, you would visit the Flower Exhibition Centre that houses a huge variety of flora. The culture of any place is clearly visible in its art and handicraft. Next destination to visit would be the Directorate of Handicraft & Handloom. You could pick-up shawls, carpets, the traditional choktse tables and other gifts items which deeply reflect the art of state.
Before ending the tour of Gangtok, you could take a Ropeway Ride (own expense). The cable car ride offers a great view of Gangtok from above. You would get an amazing view of Kanchenjunga snow peaks and the valley below through this ride.
Day 4 : Transfer to Pelling
After a scrumptious breakfast you would head towards Pelling, with a pick-up at around 9 am from the hotel. Pelling has beautiful lakes, waterfalls, ancient monastery and the view of the Kanchenjunga. The drive should take around 6 hours.
En route to Pelling, you would visit Char Dham. Hindus believe that in order to attain salvation, one has to visit and preform rituals at each of the char dhams that are located in different parts of India. Replicas of these four Dhams, namely Badrinath, Jaganath and Dwarka dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Rameshwar dedicated to Lord Shiva, have been constructed in Namchi. The 108 feet tall statue of Shiva and replicas of 12 Jyotirlingas also add to the attraction, and is visited by many tourists.
You would also go to the Samdruptse Hill in Namchi. Samdruptse means 'wish fulfilling hill’ and a 45-feet statute of Guru Padmasambhava is located there. The statue is believed to bless Sikkim and her people.
Followed by a visit in Namchi, you would continue your drive to Pelling, where after completing the check-in formalities you would have rest of the day at leisure. You could choose to explore the city on your own before ending the day
Day 5 : Transfer to Darjeeling
After enjoying a delicious breakfast, you would be picked-up from the hotel at around 10 am, for the half-day sightseeing tour. You would visit Rimbi Waterfalls, Hydro Project and the holy Khecheopalri Lake.
In the afternoon, you would leave Pelling for one of the most popular towns in North-East. Darjeeling is known as ‘Queen of the Hills’; high up in the Himalayas (at the altitude of 2134m), it offers an unforgettable view of the snow-capped mountains. The tea gardens, tiny waterfalls, little villages and a narrow gauge railway track add to the charm of the hill station. The drive should take around 5 hours.
After the check-in formalities, you would have rest of the day at leisure and you can relax and enjoy at the hotel. Or you can explore Darjeeling in the evening by taking a horse ride (own expense) to enjoy the hill station,
Day 6 : Day in Darjeeling
Start your day early (around 4AM - 5 AM) and visit the Tiger Hill to witness the glorious Himalayan Mountains at day break. The sunrise against the highest peak in India is a sight to behold.
On your return from Tiger Hill, you would stop at the Ghoom Monastery, which was built in 1850 and happens to be the oldest monastery in all of Darjeeling. The view of the valley from the monastery is as magnificent as the 15-foot clay statue of Lord Buddha that resides on the premises. Adore the 360 degree view of Darjeeling's landscape at Batasia Loop.
After this, you would return to the hotel for a hearty breakfast. Then, you prepare yourself for the tour of the city. You would be going to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. This place was built in honour of Tenzing Norgay, who was one of the two people to reach the Mount Everest summit. The museum on the premises shows account and mountaineering artefacts.
Followed by a visit to the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and then the Tibetan Refugee Centre, the centre was established for the re-habitation of the Tibetan refugees. The charitable organisation deals in traditional Tibetan handicrafts. The carpets made here are very popular and exported all over the world. Later, visit the Japanese Temple and Peace Pagoda.
Today , you would also be taken for the Toy Train Ride, which is the most famous attraction in Darjeeling.
Any visit to Darjeeling would be incomplete without going to a tea estate so, visit to Happy Valley Tea Estate. The estate offers visitors a glimpse of the fascinating process of manufacturing tea at a place that was established way back in 1854.
Later, return to the hotel after an eventful day
Day 7 : Departure from Darjeeling
After a hearty breakfast, complete the check-out formalities, and travel to the Bagdogra Airport for your journey back home. It would take you around 3.5 hours to reach the airport.
