This small and charming town with good selection of restaurants and bars, an attractive historic centre. It is the perfect gateway to the natural attractions that Iceland is renowned, for example: Lake Myvatn, Goðafoss Waterfall and Dettifoss Waterfall.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arrival

  Departure from the UK - arrival at Keflavík Airport. Domestic flight direct from Keflavik International Airport to Akureyri Airport. Arrival in Akureyri around 6 pm. Make your own way to your hotel in Akureyri (short taxi ride).
  
  Evening Northern light hunts - pick up from hotel around 9pm
  The Northern Lights Exploration tour is a small group Northern Lights hunt experience. To go into the dark, frozen winter night and observe an unbelievable display of colour, light and texture, is like waking up in a fairy-tale, full of mystery and magic. You will drive out to the countryside or up to the mountains, away from electric glow and city sounds. You will be able to enjoy the beautiful night sky at the best possible situation, of course depending on weather. Duration about 2.5 - 3 hours
  Overnight stay in Akureyri for 2 nights at 3 star hotel, including breakfast.

• Day 2 : Explore Akureyri

  Akureyri is Iceland's second largest town and is the capital of North. Enjoy the charming town centre which has good selections of restaurants and bars. We will send you plenty of suggestions of what to do with your free day including the “must see´s” in Akureyri.
  
  Optional day tour: Whale Watching in Akureyri
  Experience and get close to the incredible humpback whales of the magnificent Eyjafjorð, a place of serene beauty, filled with marine life and framed in by massive glacier carved and beautiful mountains.
  
  Optional day tour: Dimond Circle of the North
  The Diamond Circle can be described as a magnificent circuit of about 260km in the Northeast of Iceland, which includes some of the most stunning sights and of the most scenic landscapes in the whole country.
  Hightlights: Lake Mývatn, Mývatn Nature Baths (sometimes called "the Blue Lagoon of the North"), Goðafoss Waterfall and Dettifoss Waterfall.

• Day 3 : Flight Back to Reykjavík - Explore the Capital

  Flight from Akureyri to Reykjavík. Make your own way to your hotel in Reykjavík (short taxi ride). But if you like to spend the day in Akureyri you can take the inland flight in the afternoon or evening.
  
  Reykjavík City: is an exciting modern city with lots to see and do. Relax in one of the many spas and swimming pools or book one of our fantastic day tours, one of the most popular tour is the "Golden Circle Tour". We will send you plenty of suggestions of what to do with your free day including the “must see´s” in the City.
  
  Optional afternoon tour from Reykjavik: Golden Circle Tour
  This Golden Circle coach tour takes you on a afternoon trip to see the world-famous Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss Waterfall, the queen of Icelandic waterfalls, as well as Þingvellir National Park. Duration about 6 hours.

• Day 4 : Departure

  Departure to the UK from Keflavík International Airport. Depending on your flight time, you may want to explore Reykjavík in the morning or take an optional tour to the world famous Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa on your way to the airport.
