This trek goes north to the Nubra Valley, also known as Ldumra (the valley of flowers), just about as far north as we can possibly go in India. This picturesque valley is incredibly remote and only accessible by foot or by highest motorable road from Leh, negotiating Khardung La (5602m).

After a night in Delhi and a flight up to Leh (at over 3,500 metres) we have three days to acclimatize to the high altitude with some local exploration of the monasteries and other sights in and around the Ladakhi capital. We begin our trek from the village of Umla. On the ascent to Pulu we cross a small river where there is some possibility of sighting marmots. The Lasirmo La is reached the following day. At 5,350 metres this is the highest point on the trek. We admire amazing views across the Karakoram Range as we recover from the climb. We cross

the edge of the mighty Lasirmo glacier to reach the base camp. On the way to Hundar Dok we pass shepherds huts (doks) and see herds of yaks and sheep. Probability of tasting gur-gur tea (salted butter tea) here exists for those who have a penchant for adding something exotic and queer to their culinary desires.

Hundar village marks the beginning of the Nubra valley; with views of sand dunes in the distance this feels like central Asia. The lush green central part of the valley stands in stark contrast to the arid landscape all around. We spend time exploring the local monasteries at Hundar, Diskit and Sumur, and take a ride on a double humped Bactrian camel across the spectacular dunes (optional). We return to Leh passing through remote villages and crossing the Khardung La (5,602m) a place to stop for a while to appreciate nature in close proximity.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Delhi

  Arrive in Delhi. Arrive at the New Delhi airport and get professional assistance from Company’s representative to board flight to Leh early in the morning. Overnight No Hotel
• Day 2 : Leh

  Delhi – Leh (3500m). Early morning flight to Leh. Transfer to hotel and check-in. Afternoon free to relax/acclimatize. Late afternoon orientation walk of the city and the local market. Overnight Hotel
• Day 3 : Leh

  Visit Shey – Thiksey – Hemis. In the local sightseeing programme in and around Leh today visit Shey Palace, Thiksey Monastery, perched on the top of the hill; and Hemis monastery, once the biggest and the richest monastery in Ladakh. Overnight Hotel
• Day 4 : Likir

  Leh – Alchi – Rizong – Likir (3600m). Drive to Likir. En-route visit Rizong and Alchi monasteries. Visit Likir monastery (that holds special significance for Tibetan Buddhists as it belongs to Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism) in the afternoon before driving to the camp. Overnight Camp
• Day 5 : Taru

  Likir – Umla – Taru (3650m); trek starts from here (5 hrs.). Today drive back on the same route up to the village of Umla. Start the trek from here along a small steep descent that leads to the village of Taru. Spend the night in the camp surrounded by fields. Overnight Camp
• Day 6 : Murbuk

  Taru – Phyang – Murbuk (3800m;5-6 hrs). Initially gentle climb to Bong-bong la (4200m) followed by a steep descent to Phyang. Visit Phyang monastery. Continue to Murbuk. Overnight Camp
• Day 7 : Pulu

  Murbuk – Pulu (4800m;5-6 hrs). Start with a gentle climb towards Pulu at the left side of a torrent. Cross the stream to enter a gorge for further walk before climbing to reach Pulu. The yaks can be seen all around near the camping site. Overnight Camp

• Day 8 : Lasirmo La Base

  Pulu – Lasirmo La (5350m) – Base Camp (4800m ;6-7 hrs). Initial two-hour climb to Lasirmo pass and then a descent over the glacier to the Base Camp. Overnight Camp
• Day 9 : Hunder Dok

  Base Camp – Hundar Dok (4100m;4-5 hrs). Gentle downhill walk over moraine to the gorge. Visit shepherds’ Doks to try Gurgur tea. Overnight Camp
• Day 10 : Hunder

  Hundar Dok – Skarchan – Hundar (3300m;5-6 hrs). Walk through Hundar to shepherds’ houses. Stop for lunch and trek further to the camp. Overnight Camp
• Day 11 : Sumur

  Hundar – Diskit – Sumur (3350m; 4-5 hrs/1hr drive). Explore Nubra Valley and see double-humped Bactrian Camels. Visit Diskit monastery and walk further to the road head for a drive to Sumur. Overnight Hotel

• Day 12 : Leh

  Sumur – Khardung la (5400m) – Leh (335 kms;10hrs). Continue driving to Leh via world's highest motor-able road Khardung la. Built in 1976 it was opened to motor vehicles in 1988 and has seen many automobile, motorbike and mountain biking expeditions since then. Enjoy a free afternoon in Leh. Overnight Hotel
• Day 13 : Delhi

  Leh – Delhi (By Flight) Transfer to airport for flight to Delhi. Afternoon visits to The Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Raj Ghat and Colonial Buildings conclude day’s sightseeing programme. Overnight Hotel
• Day 14 : Delhi

  Delhi - Departure Transfer. Today the tour concludes. Transfer to the international airport of Delhi to catch flights to respective destinations.
