The Pikey Base Camp trek is a moderate-level trek located in the Solu Khumbu region of Nepal. During the trek, we cover a distance of approximately 45-50 kilometers (28-31 miles) which can be completed in 5-6 days. The trek involves hiking up and down through forests, traditional Sherpa villages, and open grasslands.
While on the trek, you are rewarded with stunning views of the Himalayan Mountain range, including Mount Everest, Numbur, Karyolung, and Thamserku. The trek also passes through traditional Sherpa villages, providing an opportunity to experience the local culture and lifestyle.
Accommodation in the Pikey Base Camp trek is basic and you will be staying in teahouses or lodges along the trekking route. These teahouses provide basic accommodation and meals for trekkers and are generally run by local families.
Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu 1400m/4594ft
When you arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Kantipur Holidays will be there to greet you and take you to your hotel. Once you have checked in, you can take some time to rest or visit the Kantipur Holidays office.
Later in the evening, Kantipur Holidays will host a welcome dinner where you can enjoy excellent, authentic Nepalese cuisine and get a taste of the local food culture. This will be a great opportunity to meet your fellow travelers and get to know your tour guide.

Day 2 : Drive to Dhap, Trek to Japre 2920m/9580ft
The drive from Kathmandu to Dhap takes approximately 7-8 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. The journey starts from Kathmandu and takes you through the scenic countryside of Nepal. You will pass through several small towns and villages along the way, and get a glimpse of the daily life of the local people.
Upon reaching Dhap, we start our trek to Jhapre. The trek from Dhap to Jhapre is a moderate-level trek that takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete. The trail takes you through beautiful forests, terraced fields, and traditional Nepali villages. You will cross several suspension bridges over the rivers and streams, and climb steep uphill sections in some parts. Along the way, you can enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest, as well as the traditional Sherpa villages and their unique culture and lifestyle.

Day 3 : Trek to Pikey Peak Base Camp 3640m/11942ft
The trek from Jhapre to Pikey Base Camp is approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) and takes around 5-6 hours to complete. The trek is a moderate-level trek that involves hiking up steep uphill sections, crossing suspension bridges, and traversing through forests and grasslands.
The trek offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan Mountain range, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga. You will also get to witness the stunning sunrise and sunset views from Pikey Peak, which is the highest point of the trek. Along the way, you will pass through several traditional Sherpa villages and get a glimpse of the local culture and lifestyle.

Trekking Duration: 5 to 6 hours
Day 4 : Sunrise at Pikey Peak and Trek to Loding 2515m/8251ft
Starting early in the morning, you'll follow a gradual trail to the summit, covered with prayer flags. The views are breathtaking! If the weather is clear, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views from Annapurna in the west to Kanchenjunga in the east.
From the top of Pikey Peak, you'll follow a ridgeline that starts flat and then steepens as you enter the forest to Jase Bhanjyang, where breakfast will be waiting. After breakfast, you'll continue your walk down to Loding, which passes through some steep sections of the forest. At Loding, you'll have a couple of choices for accommodation that are both simple and charming.

Day 5 : Trek from Loding to Junbesi, Visit Thubtenchoeling Monastery 2675m/8776ft
You'll start the day by heading down the ridgeline for breakfast at Jase Bhanjyang. Leaving there, there are a few options for the descent to Junbesi. The most likely is a stunning shortcut trail that leaves the ridge shortly after Jase Bhanjyang and descends steeply through spectacular old-growth forest to Taktor. This path meets the Everest Base Camp trail coming from Jiri. The tea houses from here are a little more developed, and you're likely to meet a few other tourists for the first time.
From Taktor, it is a couple of hours on a lovely trail to Junbesi. Junbesi is a traditional Sherpa village sitting at an altitude of 2675 m/ 8776 ft. and is the cradle of Sherpa culture and architecture. The Sherpas consider the Solukhumbu a sacred valley. In this remote part of Nepal that borders Tibet, Buddhism flourishes and there are numerous Buddhist monasteries along the way.

Day 6 : Trek from Junbesi to Taksindu 2960m/9711ft
The trek from Junbesi to Taksindu is approximately 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) and takes around 5 to 6 hours to complete. The trek is a moderate-level trek that involves hiking up steep uphill sections and traversing through forests and traditional Sherpa villages.
During the trek, you are rewarded with breathtaking views of the Himalayan Mountain range, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. You will also get to witness the stunning sunrise and sunset views from the Taksindu Monastery, which is the main attraction of the trek. Along the way, you will pass through several traditional Sherpa villages and get a glimpse of the local culture and lifestyle.

Trekking Duration: 5 to 6 hours
Day 7 : Trek from Taksindu to Phaplu and Explore Chiwong Gompa 2459m/8067ft
Today, we leave the main trekking route and take a path down to Phaplu through the pine and rhododendron forests. There's also the option of hiking up to Chiwong Gompa, perched high on a cliff overlooking the valley. This monastery was founded in 1923 and has magnificent celebrations for the Mani Rimdu festival in autumn. From there, we continue down into Phaplu and celebrate the completion of a trek at your cozy tea house.

Trekking Duration: 4 to 5 hours
Day 8 : Drive from Phaplu to Kathmandu
Today we bid farewell to the mountains and board our vehicle for the drive back into the Kathmandu Valley. In the evening, we will host you a farewell dinner to celebrate the successful completion of the journey.

Driving Duration: 8 to 9 hours
Day 9 : Final Departure
Today marks the conclusion of our journey. Around three hours prior to our flight, a representative from Kantipur Holidays would drop us off at the airport. We will have plenty of time on the trip home to plan our upcoming excursion in the magnificent nation of Nepal.
