HIGHLIGHTS
Day 1 : Arrival
You will be met at Nairobi Airport by your guide and transferred 3-hours to Lake Nakuru in the heart of the Great Rift Valley, travelling in a safari jeep (with pop-up roof for game viewing).
A soda lake on the floor of the Rift Valley, at certain times of the year Lake Nakuru is home to many flamingos and over 400 different bird species. The lake is also a haven for certain endangered species including the Rothschild giraffe and black and white rhino.
Time permitting, enjoy an afternoon game drive into Lake Nakuru National Park.
Day 2 : Lake Nakuru National Park
Today enjoy exploring beautiful Lake Nakuru National Park with your guide (with picnic lunch included).
With its significant population of rhino, giraffe and huge throng of pelicans on its salt waters, this beautiful lake offers sanctuary for a wide variety of wildlife - including large herds of buffalo, zebra, giraffe, monkeys, baboons, lions, thompsons gazelle, impala, ostrich and much more.
Enjoy a full day discovering the wildlife that lives around the lake.
Day 3 : Masai Mara National Park
A full day on the road today as we travel 6.5-hours from Lake Nakuru to the Masai Mara National Park, named after the Masai people and the Mara River which divides the park.
We drive past Maai Mahiu and down to the vast plains on the floor of the Rift Valley, keeping an eye out for herds of giraffe and gazelle. From Narok, the district headquarters of this part of Maasailand, we traverse the "breadbasket" of Kenya, where acres of wheat and barley cover the landscape, as we travel towards the Masai Mara.
Masai Mara National Park is famous for its exceptional population of game and the annual migration of zebra and wildebeest from the adjoining Serengeti National Park. This phenomenon occurs every year from July to October, when game migrates along a circular route from the plains of the Serengeti to the Masai Mara and back again in search of fresh pastures, followed by hungry predators - most notably lions and hyena. Check into your lodge in this magnificent wildlife sanctuary.
Day 4 : Masai Mara National Park
Today is dedicated to game viewing on the open plains of the world famous Masai Mara National Park, with your driver/guide.
Nestled within the enormous Great Rift Valley, the Masai Mara is famous for its many prides of lions, packs of hyena and other predators - as well as huge herds of wildebeest, which number over one million, zebra and giraffe. All the Big Five can be seen here, as well as numerous other species including the Thomson's gazelle, topi, kongoni, impala, roan antelope and hippo. The nocturnal bat-eared fox, rarely found elsewhere in Kenya, also inhabits this park as well as the endangered cheetah and black rhino. Bird watching is also excellent with over 450 different species including the vulture, marabou stork, secretary bird, hornbill, crowned crane, ostrich, long-crested eagle and African pygmy-falcon.
Set off early each morning, when game viewing conditions are at their best, to view the abundant wildlife of this region. Return to the lodge to rest in the heat of the day, before setting off again in the late afternoon for another game drive.
Day 5 : Lake Naivasha
Today we travel 5-hours from the Masai Mara to Lake Naivasha, a fresh water lake in the heart of the spectacular Great Rift Valley.
We drive across the "breadbasket" of Kenya, where acres of wheat and barley cover the landscape towards Narok, the district headquarters of this part of Maasailand. As we traverse the vast plains on the floor of the Rift Valley, keep an eye out for herds of giraffe and gazelle, before we head up towards Maai Mahiu and on to Lake Naivasha.
Check into your lodge and enjoy a boat ride on the lake, with the opportunity to see over 400 different bird species.
Day 6 : Amboseli National Park
Today we leave Lake Naivasha and drive 5-hours to Amboseli National Park.
We stop in Nairobi for an early lunch (own account) before heading southwards towards Amboseli, arriving in the late afternoon.
Situated in southern Kenya on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, this national park offers magnificent views of the peak in neighbouring Tanzania. In the early morning it is a wonderful experience to see the peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro hovering above the clouds, and photographing wildlife against this dramatic backdrop is particularly rewarding.
Day 7 : Amboseli National Park
Rise early today for a full day of game viewing in Amboseli National Park that is particularly renowned for its large herds of elephants.
The local people are mainly Maasai and this sanctuary offers a fantastic array of wildlife. With a dramatic contrast between its dry lake beds and watery swamps, you should see buffalo, black and white rhino, zebra, wildebeest and much more - as this low rainfall area is one of the best game viewing regions in the whole of Kenya.
Day 8 : Tsavo National Park
Today we travel 3-hours from Amboseli to Tsavo National Park.
Check into your safari lodge and enjoy an afternoon game drive in this great national park, which is divided into an eastern and western section and is one of the oldest and largest wildlife conservation areas in Kenya.
Day 9 : Tsavo National Park
Today is devoted to game viewing with your private guide in the eastern sector of Tsavo National Park.
Enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives in Tsavo National Park, the largest national park in Kenya at over 7,000 square miles (11,747 square kilometres) and named after the Tsavo River, which flows through it.
Tsavo East is generally flat with dry plains, across which the Galana River flows. Wildlife in Tsavo is diverse and abundant, and the park is well known for its bird life and large mammals.
Day 10 : Tsavo National Park
Enjoy a final early morning game drive in Tsavo National Park before your 3.5-hour transfer to your Mombasa beach resort, where you will be dropped off by your guide.
