10 Nights / 11 Days
Punakha festival tour (Tshechu) is one of the most popular festivals of the country. It is held right after the popular Punakha Drubchen which is also a major festival. Tshechu literally means the tenth day of a particular Bhutanese lunar month but that depends on each and every district of Bhutan. On the last day of the festival a big Thangkha which is a massive cloth painting is unfurled early in the morning for public which is revered by locals for ultimate blessing to pass away sins and is rolled back before sunrise to be displayed again the next year at the same exact date. This Thangka or Thongdrol (a large tapestry) is of Guru Padmasambhawa and his two principal cohorts and his eight manifestations. It is believed that a mere sight of the Thongdrol liberates an onlooker and cleanses him of his sins. Consistently, the Bhutanese hold the Punakha Tshechu Festival to pay tribute to the Guru Padmasambhawa, the valuable yogi and holy person who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan in the 7th century. Time of festival: 25th – 27th February, 2018.
