The festival takes place on the ground of Punakha Dzong. It is a Buddhist festival in honor of Guru Rinpoche the saint who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. The unfurling of the Thongdrol (large tapestry) of Guru Rinpoche is the main attraction of the festival. It is believed that a mere sight of the Thongdrol liberates an onlooker and cleanses his of her sins. This festival is also a commemoration of the Bhutanese victory over the Tibetan army in the 17th century. The ‘Pazaps’ or local militia men, dressed in battle gear with a fierce war cry imitate the battle fought to safeguard this Dzong from the Tibetan invaders.
During festival, People from all corners of the country attend festivities in their finest attires decorated with valuable jewels and ornaments. Families gather and feast on elaborate packed lunches, picnicking in circles splayed out around the monasteries.
Day 1 : Arrival at Paro and drive to Punakha / ALT 1200M

4. Khamsum Yule Chorten. It is one of the best examples of Bhutanese architecture. The temple was built by Her Majesty Ashi Tshering Yangden Wangchuck for the world peace. Overnight in Punakha.
Day 4 : Punakha to Thimphu / ALT 2320M

2. National Institute of Zorig Chusum: Thirteen types of traditional arts and crafts.
3. Tashi Chodzong: Fortress of the glorious religion houses the golden throne room of His Majesty the King.
4. Bhutan textile Museum: It houses both modern and old textile which has the vibrant culture and tradition of Bhutan.
5. Memorial Chorten. It is the iconic figure in the Thimphu city.
6. Buddha Dodenma: World tallest Buddha statue.

Day 5 : Thimphu - Paro / ALT 220

Day 6 : Paro: Hike to Taktsang / ALT 3120
Program & Highlights
1. Tiger’s nest temple is the must visit sight in Paro because of the amazing location of Taktsang temple. It is located unbelievably on the sheer rock, looking almost hanging from the cliff, a height of 900m above the Paro valley.

Day 7 : Departure from Paro.
